Vulture is in this...more effort to create a sony film continuity...no one wants this

I wonder if Michael Keaton really is playing Vulture again.

I've read in multiple places he absolutely is and its connected to Holland's Spider-Man. I'm not keen on the comics. Does this look like an accurate portrayal of his origin?

Also, it'll prob be bad. Other than Into the Spiderverse, Sony hasn't made a good Spider-Man film in years.

I'm torn.

On one hand, I don't want to dismiss this as being bad before even seeing it.

On the other, this is Sony we're talking about. As much as I want to remain somewhere between neutral and cautiously optimistic, the most cringeworthy part of the trailer wasn't even any of the movie scenes. It was the "From the studio that brought you..." nonsense, like they were solely responsible for the successes of Homecoming and Far From Home and it had nothing whatsoever to do with it being tied to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the implications of that crossover; both meta and storywise. Sony wants to make MCU money without putting in MCU effort and coast off of that shit deal Marvel cut them way back in the day.

Dunno if anyone cares enough about Morbius to complain if it isn't an accurate portrayal of his origin.

All I really remember of him is from the 90s animated show where they couldn't say blood, so they had him craving "plasma"

Its vulture. 100%

There's also a mural of Spider-Man on a wall in the background that has been graffitoed with the word "murderer" over it

Which for some reason is the cover photo of the spiderman from playstation, or the raimi spiderman, one of them.

Weird stuff.

I read somewhere that the MCU can affect the Sonyverse, but the Sonyverse cannot affect the MCU.

Which is..... weird....

Shadow
01-14-2020, 05:45 PM
Well...not really affect the MCU. More like be referenced by it but nothing world shattering can do anything to the MCU from the Sonyverse.

It's kinda like a pocket dimension really.

Sony is basically big budget Marvel TV.

I dig it more than the New Mutants trailer that dropped.

Is it to do with the MCU and the Sony movies? It wouldn't be real hard to combine the Venom movie into the MCU I don't think. It was off site of most of the location of anything in the MCU. Maybe Tony's house but that can easily be incorporated.

Much more interested in this than anything they've acquired from Fox. When they could be easily bringing in the Fantastic 4 and X Men they are focusing on Spiderman. Which is warranted but is something they don't have full control over and could put stuff into play before going to war over Spiderman.

the presence of vulture here makes me worry that sony didn't really learn anything from the failure of the ASM franchise and its attempt to pull together the sinister six, and that this is just a protracted back-door into reviving that plan and somehow totally fucking up tom holland's so-far unimpeachable run as spider-man with a convoluted mess

Jared Leto can't fuck up TWO comic book characters in his lifetime, right?

He's only going to be as good as the material he's given.

Perhaps, but the really good talent finds a way to rise above the garbage they're given. (re: Michael Fassbender, 'Dark Phoenix')

Fassbender has been in plenty of shitty movies that his talent couldn't lift. The Joker in Suicide Squad was doomed to fail from the way he was designed to his lack of prominence in the film. That's not Leto's fault.

I'll have to take your word for it in regards to Fassbender. I haven't really seen him in much. Seriously, though, that Joker was just...no...just no.

It was a terrible idea from the start. It didn't help he was barely in the film and really should've been the main villain.

Rough year for Leto. He was ridiculed for playing a stereotype Italian in the Gucci movie and now Morbius getting obliterated in critical reception. MAG was right. Leto sucks now.

I think next up on the 'Sony milks anything spidey related they can' list is Madame Web and Kraven movies...

Destor

if morbius fails hard enough we might be spared. his IP is much stronger after all

Destor
04-02-2022, 03:47 AM
they kept production and marketing pretty cheap though so this wont take much to make profit. 75 mil clears production alone

Destor
04-02-2022, 03:49 AM
which from my prerogative means i absolutely cannot go see it. i do not want this to make money. if sony believes that they can float a spidey film continuity they will, rightfully, pull spidey from the mcu the next chance they get. and i love spidey...so extreme bias

Yeah this needs to completely tank fantastic four reboot style. Just kill the universe. This is what we get for people seeing a very mediocre at best venom movie and its sequel.

Lock Jaw
04-02-2022, 04:31 AM
I know they want to put out a "larger amount" of movies, but they should really just focus on animation.... in animation they can even have Spider-Man, or Spider-Men, and not have the whole awkward trying to force their own universe of Spider-Man villains and characters without Spider-Man...

i kinda thought no way home WAS them pulling spidey from the MCU tbh given nobody in the MCU remembers who peter is any more. felt very much like it was their attempt to divorce holland's spidey from the broader universe

anyway no thanks @ morbius

I refused to watch Venom when it came out because i knew it would be shit and a 3rd rate superhero movie. I still haven't seen it. I will continue to not support any of this crap. Sony doesn't deserve spiderman.

Shadow

Venom is...surprisingly good as a stand-alone. I'm still hoping for a Hollon/Hardy interaction but it's not a bad take on the character.

Morbius on the other hand was doomed from the start.

The character of Venom is pretty great in those movies, but the movies themselves are terribly written.

Gutted that hes not actually in the mcu and it was all just to get the symbiote in a tom holland film

i have no context for bad bunny. Eminem was good in 8 mile. Ice cube and Ice T are both serviceable actors. mark whalberg is excellent. will smith just won best actor. rapping and acting has historically a decent ammount of overlap for whatever reason
