Can someone link me to a video (YouTube, WWE Network, whatever) of an example of a good match that people who hate Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks and stuff think is good?
Always been really curious what their idea of a really good wrestling match is
Going into this with a completely open mind and want to check out that type of stuff...
Thank you

This is supposed to be his favorite match
If you read the comments (!!!) A couple make the important point that without context of the rest of their matches and the crowds buying into the fued way more than fans do now make it hard to appreciate the match as it was 40 years ago

It's a really good fucking match and I totally get what that guy is saying. If I find a cool match I usually try and get the t.v around that time for context

I prefer the older stuff where guys don't fucking kill themselves. Though I love watching Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero, but those guys didn't necessarily depend solely on highspots and could work that "oldschool" style.

Cornette likes all sorts of stuff. I know you're just asking for guys like Cornette, but he did a list of his five star matches. One from the WWF that made it was Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin from WrestleMania 13.
He likes a lot more "exotic" stuff than people realize too. He's never been too crash hot on lucha libre, but he used to collect all the tapes from Japan until that kind of went belly-up in the 90's. Loved seeing the biggest stars from around the world go there and have matches you just couldn't see in the US.
He also really loved Tiger Mask vs. Dynamite Kid. Another of his five star matches. I think it's worth bringing up because it's got "flippy stuff," but Cornette likes it because it's more like their fighting style and not a choreographed dance routine.
It's all about psychology and logic with Cornette. If you could do it in a fight, Corny would approve. If it requires you standing around waiting for a guy to jump on you with your arms outstretched so he doesn't hurt his head, then you've probably made some philosophical errors somewhere.

Very true on Dynamite/Tiger Mask matches... They do so much of the floppy stuff that we see today but they do it HARD with intention to get a pin. If you haven't, please type in Dynamite vs Tiger Mask ... There are so many and I've never seen a bad one but I loved Tigers first match at MSG. Commentary is blown away by everything they do.

While Cornette generally skews toward old school stuff, the truth is he is just a typical homer, he will praise his friends and bury his enemies, regardless of actual quality.

He praised Cody vs Dustin.
I’ll read the thread more later but on quick glance, I did not see any of the Flair-Steamboat trilogy. Noid mentioned Bret vs Austin from WM 13 which is universally loved.
Without trying to make this a “Cornette is right” post, if you watch a Young Bucks match and then watch any of these suggestions, you should see a huge, glaring difference regardless of which you personally prefer.
Though I do think he’s a little hard on Omega because of his history.

He definitely is. He was reviewing one of the Omega/Jericho matches and made a point of saying “Omega isn’t my favorite but he definitely doesn’t suck”...only to then nitpick things he might’ve given others a pass for.
Would probably be the same with Ibushi if he ever had to review one of his matches. Working comedy matches in the past prevents him from watching one of their serious matches with a clear mind.

Don't know if I completely agree with this. Cornette's pretty good at separating people's talent from their personality. He admits Austin Aries is a great worker, but thinks he is a miserable prick. His criticisms of Omega all seem fair to me. His selling and fundamentals are pretty shit. He's tremendous at the spotty stuff, but Cornette admits that about him all the time.
He's been complimentary to Lio Rush, who he has torn apart on two separate occasions. He doesn't have much love for Enzo Amore (without knowing him), but admits that he could be an excellent heel manager.
When it comes to Ibushi, I do like him when he's against someone like Tanahashi or Okada, but when he's in there with a Will Ospreay I have to skip it. I just don't find him believable. I think that baffles some people who think of these guys as universally good, and when they get criticism it must be coming from some sort of dark and skewered place.

I can't speak to his current involvement but the arrogant jobber who would lose matches through hubris long after he could have won was just a 10/10 gimmick that would work in any era.
Mid South 82 was damned good stuff, but that Memphis 86 is just unbeatable. Landel and Dundee man, it's realistic because it fucking hurts.

Yeah the tirades do drag the show quality down. There's nothing else he can say about the guy so he just repeats himself.
Drive Thru is still decent because of the song contest. Actually I think if you just listen to the song contest it's a much better show.

I liked the Funk vs. Lawler match that was posted... Still very good despite them mostly just "brawling" and punching
The Funk vs. Flair match was cool I guess...
Rock n Roll Express vs. Midnight Express match was alright... Lots of "rest holds" / weak submission attempts... Re: the "doing things that look fake" argument, wrestling rest holds are one of the most annoying things to me because guys are mostly just lying or standing there with completely free arms or legs and mostly not trying to fight out of submission attempts despite clearly being able to if it was a "real fight"... on top of rest holds being really boring to me if there are too many of them.

I see what you did there.
But speaking of women, he even still gets a bum rap about not liking women's wrestling, in spite of consistently clarifying that most of it is hot garbage not because they're women, but because they can't work worth a damn, and when you have a situation like currently where WWE scoops up a majority of the ones who can actually work, it makes everyone else's women's division look that much worse by comparison.
He's praised a lot of the shit with the women in NXT as of late (especially Rhea Ripley, even though I think there's a slight bias there given some of his expoused predelictions over the years), except for the out of the ring ladder spot that got Mia Yim injured a few weeks back.

Lashley would have really benefited with Enzo as his manager.
A lot of people would have. He is capable of two things that would have made him golden as a manager: he can talk and he can bump.
Any of the outside, personal stuff aside, Enzo is actually a perfect WWE guy. If they didn't have some kind of irrational dislike of managers in the last 20+ years (seriously, how many new managers have there been since the 90s) besides Abraham Washington and, if you stretch it, Ricardo Rodriguez I can't recall any "pure" manager (someone who isn't also an active wrestler, so Zelina doesn't really count) that hasn't been a throwback, like Paul E or "Zeb" or Paul Ellering.
People talk about bubbles being in other places, but sometimes, there's a WWE bubble, too. They have talent or angles occasionally that would only work in WWE. Enzo is that to a T.
