Pretty solid looking card tonight. Conventional wisdom says that this close to a big show, the results should be fairly predictable. Page and Omega win a hard fought kick-out fest against Lucha Bros and the Bucks win the battle royal setting up a showdown they’ve been teasing for weeks. Cody will get destroyed by Wardlow in the cage but somehow find a way to win setting up a showdown with MJF they’ve been teasing for weeks. Moxley and Cobb beat the hell out of each other which ends in another beat down of Moxley further weakening him for his showdown with Jericho they’ve been teasing for weeks.


Will they go with conventional wisdom, or do they have something else in store for us, the viewers? I’ll tell you what, folks, I am excited to find out!

Watching the clips it just doesn't hook me. Props to Cody for doing the spot and getting real juice and trying his little heart out, but it just...doesn't matter. Like, watch a clip of Cody doing that and then watch Angle do it off a cage. Angle has got the psychology of trying to escape first. It's far more "shocking" too. Now you expect big moves off cages like that.

I also hate the circle-jerk "off air" comments. It's so self-congratulatory. Feels like they should play "We're All in This Together" at the end of every episode. Cody seemingly "gets it" when he has to, but even he needs to keep winking at this audience to remind them that he loves them and needs them and oh please like me. It's so...needy. It reeks of desperation.

And why the fuck is Brandi Rhodes out there looking all happy? Wasn't she just a heel a few days ago? Fuck. WWE would get dragged along the coals for that one, but because these guys suck the fans' dick after calling them stupid, they get away with it.

At first I thought Cody was one of the few guys who got it. Now there's a part of me that is suspicious that he wants to be the only one who gets it so he stands out and has relevance to the company. I hope I am wrong about that, and I hate that I have been made so cynical by shitty TV for so long.

I will read the recap of Revolution and see if Cody vs. MJF is something I want to check out or something I can live without seeing.

Absolutely disagree. The fans doing that for Nakamura’s entrance was annoying too, but at least he was a babyface. Everything in AEW feels heavy handed. This is more cool heel bullshit and it’s bad for business. Especially when it’s not very cool.

This is Anything Else Wrestling. They are still doing WWE bullshit and cashing in on a dedicated section of fans making excuses for them because they aren’t WWE. Man, it’s just so weird to me how many people will just straight-up refuse to admit things like their dropped storylines.
