I really cant see televised shows being cancelled by WWE or AEW. I think they can still put on their TV shows in empty arenas. It would be weird but not unheard of.

That said, I'm thinking they aren't going to be in charge of those decisions and will get shut down by outside forces like the govt or the arenas and cities/states.

If I'm WWE, I just move all shows to the Performance Center. You can use the trainees/personnel and family members of wrestlers as the audience for RAW/SD and WrestleMania.

WWE sent out another statement regarding Mania 36 and basically its the same as before.

They are not cancelling the event unless specifically told to do so by the government or venue.

While we remain committed to hosting WrestleMania at Raymond James Stadium on Sunday, April 5, we are putting contingency plans in place in the event that it is cancelled by government officials, civil authorities and/or local venues. The health and safety of our fans, performers and employees are our top priorities and we are monitoring the situation closely with our partners and government officials in Tampa Bay.

I was thinking earlier that the product could be better if they can get away from the die-hard snark fans live for a while.

CDC put out a recommendation for all events in the US during the next 8 weeks to not have more than 50 people present.

That pretty much makes WrestleMania impossible to hold if WWE and/or city of Tampa follows through with it.

Same for regular wrestling shows like tv tapings being very tough to almost impossible to do even without fans if followed.

CDC officially recommends that events with 50 or more people be cancelled or postponed.

Even events in empty arenas have that many people backstage between wrestlers, refs, agents, office people, production, etc....WWE can probably carry on since they own the PC unless Orlando forces everything closed. But AEW and anyone else trying to run empty arenas might be shut out depending on the venue and/or local regulations.

Either way wrestling is basically dead in the states until summer.

According to PWI, WWE management was in favor of a potential June 7th date since that would given them a better opportunity to hold the show under normal circumstances. Vince rejected that idea and demanded the show go on as scheduled regardless of the issues.

Someone brought up a good point elsewhere online that WWE didn't even bother to toss out a bone to help their affiliated promotions based on a recent statement from WWN/EVOLVE for their Mania weekend events.

With this year's Hall of Fame ceremony and NXT Takeover Mania show being unofficially cancelled, that would have freed up two days for WWE's affiliated companies to salvage something for Mania weekend. Instead looks like WWE left them out to dry just like every other indie company impacted by today's news.

Apparently Ali caused an accidental legal issue for Freelance Wrestling after he promoted their upcoming events on Twitter. These events are meant to help financially support indie wrestlers affected by the coronavirus and Ali has a past connection with the company.

WWE somehow found out about it and sent a Cease & Desist letter to the company since the logo they were using was similar to their old In Your House logo.

Probably just them wanting to limit the amount of people around the PC throughout the week and all the real focus going towards the main roster because of Mania.

Wouldn't be surprised if NXT officials also figured people likely are going to get bored of the same format for shows if they just did what RAW and Smackdown did this past week. At least in RAW and SD's case, they don't have a rival show airing at the same time so less worry of viewers tuning out.

I read that Vince doesn't like the empty arena matches. Still, seems dumb to not still have matches.

Hell they should just put employees in the stands. They have like 75 or so NXT people that don't appear on TV. Put them in the crowd, assuming WWE has access to tests like other sports leagues. Maybe 4 years down the road it can be a storyline "I was in the audience watching you at Wrestlemania 36, and at Wrestlemania 40 I am going defeat you!"

I heard they were considering taking at their tv studio in Stamford as well. Maybe to limit exposure or to have time to disenfect between every match.

They also cancelled both battle royals so they are keeping it to less than 10 people like suggested. Hopefully they follow that backstage as well. Make sure the first match is gone and out of the building before the next match people even arrive.

Boys, I haven't watched as much wrestling over the past year or so as I used to, but these empty arena shows just show how fucking terrible pro wrestling is. Not having a crowd to react to the moves or the entrances or the mic promos just make it look so so stupid. Empty arena matches as part of a storyline are actually pretty cool. Why in an empty arena are the wrestlers doing their full entrances, why are they even talking into a microphone? Running entire shows like this is awful. I literally can't watch. We all know it's fake, but this is making it look way more corny that it usually is. I actually feel sad about this.

AEW actually pulled it off. For being at an almost empty Daily's Place, they put on a great show. If you can track down this past Wednesday's show, watch it.

We were all expecting WWE to take a few ideas from that and incorporate it into Smackdown last night. Didn't happen.

WWE's shows featured wrestlers playing to a non-existent crowd and the same WWE style promos being cut to empty seats. Everyone spoke, acted, and wrestled the same exact way.

Pretty much just confirmed that the fans are irrelevant in terms of how WWE shows operate. Everything is formulaic.

Boys, I haven't watched as much wrestling over the past year or so as I used to, but these empty arena shows just show how fucking terrible pro wrestling is. Not having a crowd to react to the moves or the entrances or the mic promos just make it look so so stupid. Empty arena matches as part of a storyline are actually pretty cool. Why in an empty arena are the wrestlers doing their full entrances, why are they even talking into a microphone? Running entire shows like this is awful. I literally can't watch. We all know it's fake, but this is making it look way more corny that it usually is. I actually feel sad about this.

It feels like watching a dress rehersal to a stage play.

Except that analogy is strained by the fact that wrestling is unique in feeding into/off of reactions of the crowd. Without the crowd...

It's more like watching someone telling a knock knock joke to a mirror.

Seems Japan might be going into another lockdown for wrestling very soon.

Despite the Japanese government allowing live events to resume with caution, the governor of Tokyo is still shutting down all events for this weekend in the area and at least one notable venue is only allowing shows with no crowds to be held.

Japan went back into a somewhat lockdown mode for wrestling again.

The governors of Tokyo and Kanagawa prefectures issued lockdown notices for events despite the Japanese government recently easing the restrictions.

Earlier today, Pro Wrestling Noah announced that their Yokohama show tomorrow will be cancelled. The move came after the Governor of Kanagawa asked for a lockdown to slow down the spread of COVID-19. Soon after, many other promotions in Japan announced cancellations of their shows as well including Dragon Gate and Big Japan Pro Wrestling.

All Japan Pro Wrestling announced yesterday that Joel Redman, Lucas Steele and Davey Boy Smith Jr will not be competing in this year's Champion Carnival due to travel issues relating to COVID-19. This year's Champion Carnival is scheduled for April.

Noah went further in their announcements. They also announced that they will be cancelling all their scheduled their events from the end of March and April to May.
