Only seen a couple clips and read a few reports and reactions online but why was El Hijo del Fantasma announced at 217 pounds when the Cruiser division and Interim title tournament is only meant to be for those 205 lbs and under?

Also considering the current story with Drake Maverick since being released, would be a huge mistake to not have him win this tournament and title from Devlin. Would be the division's best "feel good" moment since Buddy Murphy winning the belt in Australia or Cedric beating Ali for it at Mania 34. Also would arguably be the greatest moment in the division's history since Cedric's hiring after the 1st CWC tournament if Maverick got rehired at the end.

I wasn’t too excited about Cross/Scarlett coming to NXT but their intro was great...until Scarlett started lip syncing, that shit was embarrassing. I liked that the smoke was still in the ring during the match. Not sold on Cross’ submission finish, it’s a chin lock.

Other NXT thoughts from this week...

Most of the action felt like it meant something/had consequences. Gargano/Dijakovic was fine I guess, DD hasn’t really grabbed me as a personality.

Tozawa/Gallagher was a good little match, Tozawa going 2-0 while jobbing on Raw I still can’t wrap my head around.

Interesting little wrinkle with Robert Stone seemingly linking with Aaliyah - another talent who’s been there for years without getting over.

Shirai/Flair was good, shame about the non-finish. Guess we’re getting Shirai/Ripley. Fine with that.

Kushida has been a talent that I’ve also failed to “get into” since his arrival. He is interesting though. Wish they’d do more to get people to invest in the characters of the Cruisers more. Good little match though.

Squash match for Grimes to setup a match vs Bálor. The Bálor situation is intriguing; I was looking forward to Bálor/Dream before they scrapped it. Obviously the Bálor/WALTER match is on hold. Bálor hunting down his attacker is interesting but could move him towards face/tweener territory depending on the outcome. We do however have the Lucha kidnappers attacking people backstage, and Kross started off with that, and Balor’s unresolved issues with Imperium; maybe he should start his investigation with one of those threads?

The Main Event was a bit disappointing.

Apart from killing the poor jobber by dropping him on his head like that I dont get the appeal.

Didn't like the entrance, he looks weird with the overdone facials and wtf is up with the hugging finisher... Ol mate tapping out before he even touched him probably didn't help to be fair.

For clarity it was the only piece of offence that looked like it might have actually hurt. Im all for suspending belief for the sake of the story but I draw the line at having to imagine that pitiful hug of a finisher hurt.

I downloaded a CAW for Kross for 2K19 (yeah, still playing it). The model is pretty good but obviously called Killer Cross. As neither ’killer’ or ‘cross’, or ‘karrion’ are selectable as call names I was playing around to see how close I could get it and settled on calling him Krimson Kross (using ‘Ross’ as the surname, pretty close) to call back to his old gimmick in Impact. Only problem is, Crimson was a totally different guy.

Maybe I can see those CAW criticisms.

Watched a replay of this week's episode a bit earlier than usual.

Fantasma vs. Akira match was pretty good. Also helped it wasn't rushed unlike the past two weeks of Cruiser tournament matches.

1st hour of NXT felt better in terms of flow or pacing than AEW's show was this week.

Strong vs. Lumis was a weird match. Felt like NXT Creative didn't know how they wanted to book Lumis and it showed in both the match and ending.

KUSHIDA vs. Maverick was very good. NXT's first attempt at doing a Best of the Super Jrs was pretty good in general although bit lame to deflate Maverick's big win over KUSHIDA with the 3-way tie to end the group.

Shirai vs. Ripley was very good up until Charlotte randomly showed up and then it quickly fell apart.

In terms of comparisons, 2nd hour of AEW felt better than NXT's show.

This week's episode of NXT was very good overall and felt the better of the two shows in general this week.

I like what they’ve done with Karrion Kross; a couple of squash matches but a pathway laid out to a destination at Takeover. So many debuts just run squash after squash (see Viking Raiders or Aleister Black for examples) with no progression. Still don’t like the Kross Jacket as a finish, and the entrance will have diminished returns the more they do it but otherwise one of the best setups for a new guy that we’ve seen.

Guess Balor vs. Priest bumped off the Interim Cruiser finals.

Not really digging the card for TakeOver: In Your House outside of the NA title match. Women's title match should be very good but lost all interest in Charlotte's reign, especially with her now showing up on all 3 brands.

Now had they swapped out Balor vs. Priest and Ciampa vs. Kross with the Interim Cruiser title Finals and the first or blow off match for Riddle vs. Thatcher, that card would have been way more mouth watering and up there with the all-time greats for TakeOver cards.

Checked in with NXT for the first time in a long time because of the Pit Fight. Haven't even really been paying attention, but that felt like a big of a game-changer. Great stuff. Timothy Thatcher and Matt Riddle are so good.

* Keith Lee should beat Johnny Gargano. Honestly, I hate that they turned Gargano heel. He and Ciampa should have been two buds that could team up perpetually. I kind of wish they'd both get off NXT and go up to the main roster as a tag team. I don't have any desire to see either get a main event push, but as a tag team? Yeah, gravy.

* That's why Ciampa should put over Karrion Kross too. Feels like NXT could move forward if it got rid of some of its old names and established these new acts. Karrion Kross leaves me largely unimpressed, but Scarlett is excellent. She's probably ready for the main roster as a manager for someone. She could make anyone interesting. Doesn't mean she has to leave NXT either.

* If they're keeping Balor down in NXT, he should probably beat Priest. Like Priest's look, and he does movez, but I don't really feel him as a gimmick. He might be another guy that's more naturally adapt to a main roster push, in terms of at least trying to dictate people's feelings about him. Kind of disappointed we haven't got a proper Balor vs. Styles feud that I can check out on DailyMotion. Maybe Balor should lose and go to SmackDown? Or maybe Styles can do some appearances in NXT? Or maybe Balor should be an established guy for Velveteen Dream to beat out the gate?

* Whether Dream wins the belt or not depends on whether there is any validity to his legal issues, I guess. Would they be using him if there was real cause to be concerned? If he's not going to be tangled up and destroyed by this shit, he should definitely win and The Undisputed Era are likely going over to the main roster. There's a reason Imperium got the tag belts and not UE. If they can't go with Dream, Cole will win and likely go against Balor himself. I expect him to drop the belt soon anyway. Can always have Dream win it from a new champ too.

* Not a fan of three-ways, and I think this is kind of just there for Charlotte to drop the belt without getting pinned (even though Triple H likes to do the thing where the champ gets pinned in three-ways). I can kind of see Charlotte retaining though. I don't know which other women they have lined up, but it kind of makes sense for Charlotte to pin Io and keep things going with Rhea for later, with a "Last Chance" spot for Io down the line too.

Should be your usual great Takeover from an in-ring perspective, but it's hard to get excited about things. They need to move forward with some of these personalities they're trying to establish, like Thatcher, Scarlett, Kross, Imperium, Balor or I guess Priest.

I watch every week but the last couple weeks I've had to watch like half one night and half the other so I feel like it would be disjointed even though no one is posting about it but me anyways

Also just soo happens its being spread out as a 2 week event.

That's one of those bullshit things AEW fanboys spread. AEW does slightly better in the 18-49 demo (probably with a bunch of 45 year old white guys) and they claim that means the audience is young and hip. NXT doesn't do as impressively in that demo, but it also launches on the WWE Network the next day.

I've said from the start that I'm willing to bet the audiences are much more similar than those who take the ratings literally suspect, and that the NXT audience is much larger and diversified than USA live on a Wednesday would tell them, but they tell me that doesn't make any sense, and the reason they give is that NXT isn't in the top one or two shows on the WWE Network each week, as if that's the point.

If 250k people in that demo watch it on DVR and/or the WWE Network on Thursday, sure it's got no effect on the advertising or whatever, but it'd have a younger audience than AEW. They just don't watch it live because they're supporting the other guys for now.

That might have been pre-coronavirus but they've been averaging an older audience than both RAW and SD at least since the start of this year.

Based on a check from Meltzer about a month ago, it went RAW is the youngest at 51, then Smackdown at 54, and finally NXT at 56.

For comparisons, AEW was at 48 years old.

This is true. Also, given how small the viewership is and how many people Nielsen still speaks for, I think the difference between AEW and NXT is generally about 8 boxes (averaging things out, which is probably not as simple as it works). That's what people get up in arms about and start throwing "the WWE is crumbling!" parties for (not so much here, but definitely in other places).

To be generous about ratings, they're basically like polling, with the data being about 54% in favor of AEW right now, with 46% preferring NXT. It's nuts that people try to literally analyze that audience or make staunch generalizations about them.

They have ways to figure that out, especially with the tv tracking device option.

Don't remember how that exactly works but think you have to input stuff every time you watch a show for it to register. When I was a Nielsen participant for a month a few years ago, I went with the diary format since it was the easiest and laziest option instead.

It's exactly what my biggest issue with AEW has always been, or at least dating back to around February of 2019. The utter adulation they receive by that set of fans is laughable at best. "OMG ADAM PAGE RAN FROM 100 YARDS AWAY, THAT'S AMAZING".
