According to Dave Meltzer, WWE is going to have a draft. It could be in August, it could be in September, it could be in October, it maybe even later, but Dave has "sources" and he confirmed WWE will at some point in the future do the thing they have done 14 times in the last 18 years!
Dave really is a great reporter!

He charges $11.99? No wonder he's trying to get attention any which way he can.

He has broken stories. Most recently, he did know that Edge was coming back. But he also said that Vince was going to run NXT despite already being busy and the XFL starting back up at the time.
Also, Kurt Angle has never had a five star match whereas Omega has had 16 with 9 breaking the scale.

I used to defend Dave, in the sense that the WWE no doubt would change their plans and he's got to report on those changes. So the whole "plans changed" thing isn't, on its face, that ridiculous. But the guy also reports A LOT of bullshit. Remember when Japan was against Kenny Omega?

Say it with me now: "... plans change."
As for the topic of the draft itself, I would have no problem with it IF (and that's a big "if", figuratively and literally) WWE could be trusted to follow through with it. But at this point, who trusts them to follow through?
I'm not one who bashes the brand split or the idea of having two world champions automatically. The issue comes in where they unilaterally decide anybody can show up anywhere, totally negating the idea of splitting the roster. If you're going to do it, fucking do it and stick with it, no matter what ratings dictate (as in, if wrestler x is super hot and over, don't make excuses to let them show up on both brands to boost ratings. Tough shit. Do something different to get people over on the other show instead of trying to milk the hotness... because then you'll overexpose that person on top of everything else)
At the same time, don't copypaste the exact same angles and ideas for both shows at the same time with different people plugged in (example: when Riott Squad and Absolution debuted the same goddamn week. Why would you make two 3 woman stables that essentially accomplished the same thing just to have one for each show?
Their ultimate problem is that they make it make zero sense and not mean what it was supposed to. Similar to them continually adding hours to their shows - which was supposed to be a vehicle to show off more talent to the world and have more matches but has become a way to pad in more commercials and have multiple segments with the same people over and over - they step on their own toes by going back on that big plan. They eventually have everyone co-mingle, just to make a big deal about splitting them again every couple of years until it's eventually not a big deal anymore. They've pulled that trigger too many times. At this point, it's stupidity simply because we know the eventuality: it won't mean shit by next year's Summer Slam.

No, it isn't "that ridiculous", but it does just so happen to make for a convenient out if he actually was wrong about something. Very rarely will you hear a "I got that one wrong". Instead, it's basically he was right until plans changed to suddenly make him not right.

If your going to mock Meltzer, could at least get the original story right since it was Fightful who first reported plans for the Draft and the changing dates. Meltzer and the Observer wasn't even the second notable source to break the news since that was Post Wrestling instead who mentioned the same exact thing as Fightful and Meltzer has.

That ended up getting later revealed to have been someone associated with Bushiroad and not NJPW itself that tried to use some connections with Japan's government to cause those travel issues for Omega.

Lol, I’m not sure if it’s a great defense of Meltzer if he is just copying the bullshit off other more less informed sources.
Meltzer just reports whatever the AEW guys feed him. He’s got a real blind spot there.
