SmackDown Preview : Quick Hits

Universal Champion Roman Reigns to be officially crowned as Tribal Chief
Sami Zayn to face Jeff Hardy in Intercontinental Championship showdown
Kevin Owens to bring “The KO Show” to SmackDown as Alexa Bliss joins

Preview only for tonight's 205 Live show since no matches scheduled:
On a very special episode of 205 Live tonight, Vic Joseph will look at the upcoming title bout between Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and Santos Escobar, slated for this Sunday at NXT TakeOver 31.

The championship fight will represent a monumental moment for the purple brand, as it is the first time that the NXT Cruiserweight Title will be on the line at an NXT TakeOver.

Scott doesn’t think Escobar can beat him in a fair fight, and if recent bouts between the two Superstars are any indication, he may have point.

In fact, “Swerve” is the only competitor to defeat Escobar since the brazen titleholder arrived in WWE. He has twice accomplished the feat, taking down Escobar in the NXT Cruiserweight Championship Tournament earlier this year (Escobar was wearing a mask and competing as El Hijo del Fantasma at the time) and also teaming with Breezango for a wild Six-Man Street Fight against Legado del Fantasma and once again pinning the champion. Despite losing to Scott during the round robin portion of the eight-Superstar tournament, however, Escobar rallied to emerge as the overall winner and new NXT Cruiserweight Champion.

The NXT Cruiserweight Champion and his NXT TakeOver 31 opponent share tense words. Catch WWE action on WWE Network, FOX, USA Network, Sony India and more.

As a result of twice beating Escobar and picking up several other impressive victories on 205 Live and NXT, Scott was awarded a title fight against the leader of Legado del Fantasma on the Aug. 26 edition of NXT, though Escobar had a trick up his sleeve. After retreating to ringside, Escobar donned a mask that appeared to contain a heavy object and headbutted Scott to retain his title.

Given the disappointing and controversial outcome, Scott pressed forward in his quest to dethrone Escobar, and on Sunday at NXT TakeOver 31, the acrobatic Superstar will have the opportunity to finally accomplish his goal when he once again challenges “The Leader of Leaders.”

Don’t miss a special preview tonight on 205 Live, streaming at 10/9 C on the award-winning WWE Network, and tune in to WWE Network on Sunday at 7 ET/4 PT to catch NXT TakeOver 31 for what is sure to be a thrilling NXT Cruiserweight Championship Match!

Whelp if Kevin Owens gets drafted to SD, he already has his first feud set with the Fiend.

And vice versa if Fiend ends up going to the red brand instead. Then again that probably would be better considering he'd fit in very well with his spooky red lights routine.

This week's episode was pretty good overall. The show did sort of peak after the first 40-45 minutes in terms of entertainment though.

I give Carmella's new Emmalina-like gimmick a month or two tops before WWE gets bored of it or it hits unsavable dud territory.

Potential spoilers for tonight's Draft show in regards to certain big stars moving brands.

WWE officials are reportedly planning a few big roster changes for Night 1 of the 2020 Draft, which kicks off with tonight's SmackDown on FOX episode.

While plans are still being discussed, @Wrestlevotes reports that as of 10am this morning, the Draft moves at the top have WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns staying on SmackDown, while WWE Champion Drew McIntyre stays on RAW, Seth Rollins moves to the blue brand from RAW, and "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt moves to the red brand from SmackDown.

Big shock was New Day getting broken up

I figure that will last until they decide to not push Big E and then they will be reunited

My best guess is Raw will keep the Street Profits and have SP vs New Day to unify the tag belts and send them on both brands.
Which could also negate splitting up New Day if they win and can be on SD every week anyway

Of course they moved Bianca Belair to SD so they could move SP to SD.

Itll be funny the RAW tag team champions on SD and vice versa

Card and preview for tonight's 205 Live show:
Tonight’s edition of 205 Live features what is certain to be an edge-of-your-seat battle between Isaiah “Swerve” Scott and The Brian Kendrick, as well as the return of Daivari’s Dinero Division.

It has been an interesting few weeks for The Brian Kendrick, who has picked up two recent wins against Ashante “Thee” Adonis but also appeared to take the brash rookie under his wing, imparting his veteran wisdom on his frequent opponent several times.

Adonis appeared to heed the former Cruiserweight Champion’s advice in their third and most recent meeting, limiting his trash talk and showboating en route to a victory against The Man With a Plan.

Isaiah “Swerve” Scott has had an adventurous couple of weeks himself, coming within an eyelash of winning the NXT Cruiserweight Title from Santos Escobar at TakeOver 31 and continuing to wage a war against all of Legado del Fantasma.

Interestingly, Adonis, who has been receiving lessons from Kendrick, also tried to dish out an assist to “Swerve” during the Cruiserweight Championship bout, as Adonis rushed to the ringside area to help Scott fight off the meddlesome Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza.

Regardless, two of the absolute best on the purple brand will square off tonight in what is sure to be a must-see collision, and both Superstars can ill-afford another loss.
Daivari

Additionally, the brash Ariya Daivari will bring back Daivari’s Dinero Division, wherein $10,000 of his own money will be on the line.

This week, Daivari has challenged Performance Center recruits Anthony Greene and Curt Stallion to step into the squared circle with the 205 Live Original.

Can one of the newcomers become $10,000 richer, or will Daivari Dinero continue to reign over his own division and brutalize his less experienced foes?

Don’t miss what is sure to be a thrilling edition of 205 Live, streaming on WWE Network tonight at 10/9 C!

I have a feeling that there is a long term plan for Big E and The New Day. Feel like he will go into next years draft as the champion. Either he or Kofi/Xavier get traded, putting them back on the same show. Kofi and Xavier try to reunite with him and he suddenly doesnt want anything to do with them because he think he is better than they are, leading to a feud between Big E and Kofi with Xavier trying to play peacemaker.

Could see that happen but maybe more like 2 years from now and likely when Kofi and/or Xaiver are ready to retire.

If the rumors about Big E becoming the top face star of SD are true, he's going to have a lengthy period as a major face star before any potential heel turn happens.

The more he keeps showing up on WWE shows, the more I keeping thinking that Adam Pearce really does look like a young bald version of HBK.

For a season premiere show, its not really doing anything interesting to build up or give a strong reason to bother watching next week's show despite not being a bad show so far this week. Same problem last year's FOX premiere show had where it was entertaining but did a piss poor job building up the next week's show.

My new opinion is the Big E singles push will get him to win the RR but over on RAW Orton (who I'm assuming will eventually beat McIntyre) will "injure" Kofi somehow and we get Orton vs Big E at WM and a way to reunite the New Day since I can't see them just giving up on it. A 6 month cooling off might do well even though they had already gone a year not as a trio.

Only problem is people have been doing that chant on their screens ever since the ThunderDome started although easiest way to determine if its a live or fake screen is if they are actually reacting in real time. Same for if WWE repeats the same person on multiple screens like they did with one person at the start of Bryan's promo segment tonight.

Like the reason NXT got busted for using fake crowd screens was because the person who outed them mentioned she was watching AEW instead that night and was also wearing a different sweater than what was shown on her screen.

'The Freak' Lars Sullivan had his first official match since June 2019 and Corey Graves and Michael Cole made sure to tell you just how much of a freak he is.

Card and preview for tonight's 205 Live show:
Tonight on what is sure to be a thrilling edition of 205 Live, Mansoor collides with The Brian Kendrick, while Curt Stallion tangles with Tony Nese.

It’s a clash of the old guard against the new guard when Mansoor, who is 5-0 on the purple brand, throws down with Kendrick, a true student of the game and former Cruiserweight Champion.

The Man With a Plan has recently become something of a mentor to Ashante “Thee” Adonis. Kendrick defeated Adonis twice, routinely imparted his veteran wisdom on the upstart, and suffered a loss to Adonis in their third matchup.

After falling to Isaiah “Swerve” Scott last week, Kendrick finds himself in something of a must-win situation, though it won’t be easy against his undefeated counterpart, who has scored impressive victories against the likes of Adonis and Colby Corino in singles matches and partnered with The Brit-Am Brawlers to win a Six-Man Tag Team Match on 205 Live.

In his debut match last week, Curt Stallion stood toe-to-toe with Ariya Daivari. Just when it appeared he might have a chance to defeat the 205 Live original, Stallion was blindsided by Tony Nese, who dashed to the ring and never broke stride before clobbering Stallion with a savage Running Nese.

Naturally, Stallion is looking for payback against The Premier Athlete, who has shown a nasty streak ever since “Swerve” declined to continue their partnership.

Can Stallion score the biggest win of his life against the former Cruiserweight Champion, or will Nese brutalize the newcomer?

Whelp Otis is losing the MitB case at Hell in a Cell.

Also lame way to not have it be cashed in on Reigns if that's the case since it was meant to be blue brand exclusive this year.

This Mysterio Family vs. Rollins feud somehow went from being pretty dumb due to Rollins eyeball fetish to being a pretty good showcase for Dominik to now being all about Murphy wanting to bang Rey's daughter and Domink becoming a big non-factor in the story.

If it wasn't for Retribution's terrible booking, this never-ending Rollins vs. Mysterio feud would have zero competition for the award for the worst shit in WWE for this year.

That ending stuff with Reigns and the Usos was pretty cool.

The Usos getting kicked out of the Anoa'i family if Jey loses at Hell in a Cell is a very interesting choice for a stip.

This week's episode was enjoyable overall but WWE might have put in the laziest effort in years for both go-home shows this week. If it wasn't for the ads and commentators mentioning a PPV this weekend, both shows were a lot more like regular episodes than something meant to flesh out the card. Only two new matches got added from this week's shows and one was made after RAW went off the air. That's five hours of shows just to come up with 2 new matches for a card that only had 3 matches going into the week.

Apparently tonight's plans for SmackDown and WWE Backstage on FS1 were a mess according to the Observer.

WWE Backstage got canned again because FOX changed their minds late in regards to a new episode airing on FS1 while the original plans for tonight's Smackdown got shelved because of issues involving the Law & Otis stuff.

So many things have changed of late with WWE. Smackdown is on FS 1 tonight. Originally the plan was Smackdown, followed by a one hour Talking Smack and then replaying Smackdown for the West Coast viewers for prime time since FS1 doesn't have a staggered feed and FOX does. Then FOX decided to do a special episode of WWE Backstage in that time slot. Now it's back to Talking Smack with Kayla Braxton, Booker T and Montez Ford as hosts.

The reason nothing was advertised for Smackdown until today is because they were rewriting the show last night. They do have a show written and why today they didn't announce matches earlier is a different question. The Otis trial which airs tonight is the reason everything went into chaos. That became the top concern and everything ended up delayed because of it. Nobody can understand why so much was devoted to a show that is expected to have a small audience tonight. Roman Reigns also will reveal the consequences of the I Quit Hell i a Cell match on Sunday. Paul Levesque was brought in to help with tonight's show as he did for last week's show.

Card and preview for tonight's 205 Live show:

On what is sure to be a captivating edition of 205 Live, Curt Stallion is primed to slug it out with Ariya Daivari after last week’s fisticuffs, while Mansoor & The Brian Kendrick will team up against Ever-Rise following a backstage confrontation.

Stallion, who suffered a controversial loss to Tony Nese last week after Daivari interfered, seeks his first pinfall win on the purple brand against The Persian Lion. During his bout against Nese, Stallion landed a blow on the meddlesome Daivari, striking him with a vicious headbutt.

With plenty of bad blood already boiling, what will happen when the 205 Live newcomer collides with the 205 OG?
Stallion Daivari

Earlier today, The Brian Kendrick approached Mansoor for a chat in the backstage area, but they were immediately interrupted by Ever-Rise, who chastised Kendrick for losing to Mansoor last week and shaking his hand after the bout.

Kendrick fired back by challenging Chase Parker and Matt Martel to a tag team match against himself and Mansoor for tonight, but can Mansoor trust The Man With a Plan after dealing him a loss last week?

So if Survivor Series is supposed to be the one time of the year where RAW peeps get to fight Smackdown peeps and vice versa, then what is the Royal Rumble supposed to be?

The one time of the year where WWE mostly forgets what they did the past few months?

Emperor Smeat

Owens vs. Ziggy was pretty good.

Wait ... even Survivor Series now has an actual tag line for its show this year. "Best of the Best" is some pretty blatant false advertising considering who is in RAW's Women's team.

I guess I don't know how well Jey's big face-push was being received, and probably hard to tell with only virtual fans.... but seems to me like it was going good... even beating a guy like Daniel Bryan clean, wow that is a lot to put into him..... only to throw it all away and now he will just be a "goon"
