Haunted house, eh? May's well.
Based on some things I've read about season 4, it's definitely going to be the biggest budget season yet (and not just because of the cast but the special effects).
At the end of season 3, The Byers moved out of Hawkins and Hopper was in a Russian prison, so I'm curious to see what happens there. There are seemingly a lot of new characters this season as the gang enters high school. Stranger Things social media have been heavily promoting something called "The Hellfire Club" too, which many seem to think is a D&D group of some kind.
Setting seems to be 1986 this time around.

Is it going to be one long episode each or multiple episodes?
If multiple episodes I just don't see why they are making 2 parts that close together.
Edit: just scrolled up...duh.
Weird they are presenting this at 2 parts. I wonder of Netflix pushed for a date and they couldn't meet the target.
Do they normally release the full season in one go? Guessing they weren’t gonna be in a position to release the full season.
drave

They did usually do the full season. Usually when a single series has two "parts" there is about a period of 3-6 months between them (see: The Walking Dead). Seems weird, but whatever I guess.
Maybe has something to do with Neflix subs being shit and getting people to re-sub across different months for content that can be binged in a single billing cycle?

Just read that too
Still kind of odd to drop 7 eps and then wait for the final 2 eps...but I am guessing episode 8 is rather long as well...also just read each episode has a 30 million dollar budget this season so me thinks we're getting a lot of crazy action and big budget stuff.

First two eps were really good, new character Eddie is going to be a viewer favorite for certain.
My early take on the big bad, Vecna, is he reminds me of Pinhead and Freddy Krueger. He seems pretty ruthless, which is a different kind of villain than the monsters they faced in the past.
Just finished part 1/episode 7

They had Jungle Boy's theme during the skating rink part in episode 2, now can't get the "whoaaaa whoaaa whoaaaaaaaa" out of my head at all
I suspected the orderly "Patrick" was 001 but he being Henry/Vecna was a total surprise
good shit.
So much I'd like to discuss but without spoiler tags because they're annoying
One shouldn't be too much of a spoiler. 008 and her unique power but I bet 001 has it, too based on a few scenes. Lotta fan theory about that one. I heard they kinda retconned the comics about unique powers.
Another one was El with her limited English. Probably trauma from a new scene and the power it took.

as you know by now Robert Englund is older Victor aka Patrick aka 001 aka Henry aka Vecna so it was geniussssss
Just thought it was time for someone to respond to yo post
is Brennan still a bad guy at this point? El opening a rift when she banished Henry to the UD was likely the first seen
This isn't an original theory but I've added to it. I don't think anything lived in the UD rift, except the Mind Flayer and maybe some of those bats/worms. Once Henry got thrown in by El, it got populated by Hawkins building terrain/buildings from 1983. Henry/V caused the next rifts with help from his interactions with El getting researched on
deaths
I expect Jonathan might bite the bullet
the Mind Flayor or whatever will go back to Will , since he'll be back in town.....

The Upside Down's crazy timeline could be used to justify a time jump somehow.

That was amazing. Epic and Emotional. Wait until you see how it ends.
My guesses for the final season now:
Vickie and Mike/Nancy's mom will join the main character list.
That Army guy will still be after 11.
We'll finally find out why the upside down looked like Hawkins
AND
Why the UD is stuck on the day Will got there (my guess is those two things are related)
Based on the ending with the Upside Down starting to transform Hawkins....I can't even imagine the budget for season 5
Other guesses for Season 5:
Perhaps Russia sends Dmitri/Yuri to help out in Hawkins as well
Maybe Victor Creel appears again
Also re-looking a the poster for the season
I thought it was 4 sections because it was the 4th season...but now we know it's divided into because 4 murders and 4 gates to let the Upside Down into Hawkins once and for all

Meh.
The only one who bit the dust was a guy that appeared for the first time this season?? If it wasn't for the shape Hawkins is in there would have been zero consequences.
I dunno. There was alot of filler this season. Anything Russia or 11 losing and trying to get her powers back. What was that....2/3 or 3/4 of the season?
Oh, 11 can bring people back from the dead. Great. Glad her powers are constantly evolving and changing like it's being dictated by Eric Cartman. I hate when a show/movie either can't establish its own rules or chooses when to play by them.
God damn that last fight took forever. So much yammering. It was like a DBZ fight with lots of people just standing around with their mouths open for episodes at a time.
This is as cookie cutter as this genre can get. I'll watch the last season even though I'm sure they'll stretch it out as long as they can with a couple of rushed deaths of tertiary characters sprinkled in (Murray, the Russian guys and another red shirt who will take the place of Eddie - don't worry it won't be any of the "kids" so they can create spin offs depending on what test audiences react best to) and it will be about as fulfilling as my last trip to McDonald's.

Hopper mentioned it in season 1 when Joyce reported Will as missing
Duffer Bros said for s5 their goal is 8 eps and around 10 hours....but they also know the finale will likely be another 2 hour ep because of how much story they want to tell.

I think Modine's character is done for good
Bringing Eddie back is not out of the question, as he has been framed for the murders/events and they could change the public opinion and his reputation in season 5
Now how would they do that?
Maybe the upside down has special properties we don't know about yet, he could wake up as a zombie but with a conscience, or Eleven could somehow bring him back - she hasn't reached her full potential yet
Imagine Eddie being the key to humanity's survival next season, would be cool tbh

Very interesting and solid theory about Vecna's presence in the series:
Vecna kidnapped Will in S1 Eps1.
- The assumed Demogorgon is never actually seen on screen other than the physical hints and teases only show a body type that could pass for both Demogorgon and Vecna's gangly figure.
- When Will runs home he locks the door and the lock opens telekinetically. Demogorgon's don't do anything like that again in the series and are otherwise just animals. But Vecna can do that. El does the same spot with the same lock in S2.
- Will's survival in the UD appeared contingent on singing his favorite song that he enjoyed with his brother. This exact practice proves effective against Vecna's psychic attacks.

Very interesting

I still have a theory that Mike's dad is a Russian sleeper agent on some Telefon shit.
I'm not convinced that he's 100% utterly ineffectual and clueless; its a front. Kinda like that reveal near end of Moral Orel that his dad's "stupid dead-end job" he always comes home muttering about is that he's the fucking town's mayor. He is aware of all the weird shit, but since that isn't his job, he doesn't care. He is doing his job of just being in the background until he gets orders. And given how closely we're hurtling towards the fall of the Berlin Wall, those orders either might not ever come, or some sort of communication will happen near the resolution of the story where some hitherto unexplained plan gets called off.
Every time they show the phone bank with conversation audio montage, we assume it's only clandestine shadowy US government agents pertinent to the story listening in.
Then again, it might be like CLUE where "communism is just a red herring" and he's just a giant dumbass in a world where everyone else is that exists are fairly well written characters (except for Jason, who seemed like he was building up to be a major auxillary "born again" evangelical antagonist only to die unceremoniously at Vecna's victory because of where he happened to be laying). However, it feels way to convenient to simply be written off as a joke character in a world full of psychics, spies, interdimensional monsters, and assassins. I think he's hiding in plain sight.

Just watched the final two episodes..... good stuff....
So, Vecna created the Mind Flayer? Need to watch the previous season again, but thought Mind Flayer had very different goals/personality....
Hope Max comes back....

That depends on what exactly is the stuff that makes up the Mindflayer.
Hopper mentioned it in season 1 when Joyce reported Will as missing

That still feels kinda lazy and "shoehorny", because kids called other kids fags and queers all the time back then; it wasn't built up to be this thing that somehow rivaled the n-word until somewhere in the early 00s. That throwaway line at the beginning of season one shouldn't be the sole signpost to him "actually being gay the whole time" at a time in life where kids even calling other kids "a virgin" was perjorative, even though they all damn well should be and the kids throwning that around don't even really know what they're saying. Of all the threads and intertwining narratives the show has, if Will actually coming out is really the endgame, they could have written it A LOT better.
It's still not as bad as the Young Justice thing. "I'm mad at you for stealing my girlfriend - [time skip] - nevermind, we're lovers now", but it is pretty close.
There's better ways to accomplish representation than just hamfistedly inserting it for representation's sake.
It’s not just that one mention. Watch more of the video.
