I read a great book last year about the natural reaction to the "PC gone mad" culture. The original sin is somebody being 'offended' by something to a disproportionate degree and trying to blow it up so it becomes proportionate for the rest of the world.

The majority of the vocal reaction this gets is usually one of disgust, with people talking about how the world has gone mad, you can't say or do anything these days without upsetting someone, etc, usually driving them further away from the original message.

However, those that react that way are completely ignorant to the irony that they, in that moment, are also disproportionately inflating their reaction to something that isn't impacting their lives in the slightest bit. So what if somebody you don't know is bothered by something that doesn't involve you or impact you in any way? In trying to seem above the fray, those that react over the top expose themselves to be exactly the same as the folks they criticise.
