Another top o' the morning to the TPWW Universe. Ready to plunge headfirst into this week's hot rating action? I sure am...kind of. Our grand list just keeps getting larger and larger and I believe this week is the sort of halfway point as we inch towards the final total of 125. That's going to be one hell of a pull down menu. So let's get right to it by adding last week's game, The Simpsons, to the list in it's proper place. Leaderboard, roll out....

Well thanks to the voting we've added yet another four-way tie to the leaderboard as The Simpsons takes the number 16 spot alongside Sonic, Samus, and Mario and his racing crew. I'm curious as to the identity of the three people who hadn't played it. I wonder if it's still available for download on the Xbox Live Arcade. Well we can't worry about something like that right now. There's more games to get to that need selecting! Case in point, this week's game. Let's go to the .gif and see what comes out! Behold....

So we've got quite the pick here as it's another major PlayStation 3 title, The Last of Us. This game still gets a lot of praise to match the same it received when it first released but what do you say? How does this title fare with you? Is it worthy of all of the accolades and fawning and awards? Take the poll, rate, discuss, and what not. Until next week!

Dirty secret confession time: I've actually never played this game. Not owning a PlayStation 3 has really kicked me in the ass. :o

Did not like it as a game. Had a good story but shouldve been a movie instead of a game. I struggled to finish it not because of any challenge but because the gameplay was not fun at all. It basically went [cutscene/story progression] -> [Limited gameplay segment] -> [cutscene/story progression]. Very little exploration of any kind, completely on the rails and neither character was likeable in any sense of the word.
I remember forcing myself to finish it because I spent money buying it.
I can see why people like it, but not my kind of game and don't feel it has any place being rated so highly as it is in terms of being a video game.

gaming can be anything. its fine to dislike a type of game genre but what youre doing is trying to put gaming in a box. only "x" should be a game.

visual novels, which are so much more narrative heavy to the point where they make TLoU look like an open world snadbox in comparison, are among some of the richest gaming experiences ive ever had.

games can be anything. its artistic expression. it should take a million shapes.

4, big fan. Only reason it's not a 5 is because I never finished the game.

We should form some kind of support group.

Or just get the game and play it....

I've also never got around to playing it. Maybe when I get a ps5. Which judging by their inventory should be somewhere around 2030.

I imagine it's available on the PS Network for download. I should get around to looking for it when I have the time. In the meantime, it gets my 'Haven't played it' vote. To think the sequel already released. By the time I get around to playing that one who knows what will be going on in the world.

This is the reason why I'm against people who want to claim that video games can't be made into movies. They absolutely can. You're just telling the story in a different fashion. The problem is getting idiots who feel they need to change the story outright (Street Fighter, Silent Hill) or just pump the damn thing with references to the game with no context or explanation (Mortal Kombat: Annihilation). I imagine The Last of Us would work as a film. It's essentially a zombie apocalypse story, right?

At what point does it become not a game and instead a 3D cgi movie? Going by that logic, almost anything can be called a game. Not saying Last of Us wasn't a game btw, just that it was poor AS a game and was much better as a story/movie.

People call Gone Home a game, even though it was essentially just a realtor's open house simulator. :-\

Fuck that game. Thought I was getting a cool horror game when it started, and it ended up being sappy nonsense.

Layers of Fear is a far better walking simulator.

YES!!! I was in the same boat and in the beginning that's what I felt like it was going to be. The minute I heard the dialogue about the sister washing the hair of the other girl I figured out where it was going.

That's a big problem that I had with TLOU. Lack of player agency. You really don't do much, there is next to no exploration. Just going on the set of encounters and story cutscenes, like a funhouse ride at a carnival.
I also don't understand your aggression @ me. I don't see where I said that TLOU is not a game, so I don't understand your point of going after me for saying that I didn't like it as a game. I just said that I did not feel like it was a good game. For me, it wasn't.
I think it could've been so much better if it was handled differently, add some more exploration, more open ended gameplay segments etc...

Games are longer than movies, they move at the pace you choose, you play them over a period of time and thus develop different emotional attachments to them... Last of us is not groundbreaking gameplay wise but it worked fine and was scary enough, story is one of the best ever in a video game though so it gets a 5

art shouldnt be confined by arbitrary rules. "theres too much story" who gives a shit. "you dont explore enough" so what. linear isnt evil. cinematic isnt taboo. its cool that you dont like it. thats irrelevant to anyone who isnt you. its another thing to say "thats not gaming." its not up to you. its elitist snobbery.

Cool stuff putting words in my mouth. I never said it's not a game or not gaming. I even specifically said, that I did not like it AS a game. Didn't say it wasn't a game. It's my opinion, I never tried to present it as fact. Irrelevant to anyone who isnt me? Where did I say that what I said was a fact or should be taken by anyone as a fact? It's my opinion, and this thread is called "Rate The Game" and the whole purpose is saying how we feel about certain games.

I dont know why you get so offended over somebody having a different opinion about a freakin video game, to the point where you put words in their mouths and try to misrepresent what they said.

Guess what, your opinion of this game or any other game, is also irrelevant to anyone that isn't you and if anyone's coming off as an elitist snob it's you for harassing people over having a different feeling about a freaking video game and you are the one trying to represent YOUR opinion of this game as a fact.

When I was rooming with friends I had this unfortunate experience with them every time I started up a new game. I'd get through the first 10 minutes, which is half cinematic opening and half tutorial, and without fail the first thing they'd ask, "So how is it?" HOW THE FUCK SHOULD I KNOW?!?!?!
