Getting an early start here as once again I foresee myself occupied with other matters today so I figure I should just get a move on. Well, we move past the milestone of last week's 75th entry and we coast on smoothly into the future onto the next one. Number 100 will be here before you know it! And then I still won't be able to stop because there will be 25 more to go! Yay for me...I guess. Well let's help move past last week by finding the spot designated for Duke Nukem 3D as determined by our collective average. Is Duke indeed man enough to chart at the top of the mountain? Let's have a looksie....

<s>Well some last minute scoring saves Duke from ending up in the dreaded 2.0-2.9 range but he still claims some real estate at the bottom of the pile, right alongside four other entries at the number 61 spot with an average 3.0. That's a five-way tie as we're back into the groove of creating some more kinky grouping. I can see Duke trying to hook up with the Williams sisters from Tekken. No time to think about that right now as we've got more work to do.</s> So we do the average thing and ultimately Duke Nukem 3D ends up with a FINAL score of 3.2, enough to get over the hump and join up with fellow bloody first-person shooter, Quake! Yup, that's totally the way it was supposed to be all along. :shifty: *ahem* Anyway, time for a new game, no? Roll some more of that beautiful bowl footage...

Well, we continue our trek down PC gaming memory lane but in a completely different genre from what Duke Nukem 3D was all about. It's one of the grandfathers of the God-game genre, the city planning simulator with a hint of monster attacks, SimCity 2000! We already have The Sims gracing our list, however low it may be in the rankings, but how does this jaunt into the realm of world-building rank with you? Is it better? Worse? A pile of trash? Take the poll and rate and discuss and share and what not. Until next week....

This might be considered sacrilege, but never played it. Dunno, just was never that into games where you build and micromanage practically everything. I like the Civilization series well enough, though.

Still the best SimCity game ever made. I would probably give this a 4 nowadays, but considering the countless hours I spent playing this in my youth and thinking I was some kind of world building God I feel it deserves the full 5.

This one has me remembering all the random Sim titles that were made in the 90's through the early 00's. SimAnt anyone? What about the mean Streets of SimCity?

Definitely played this one, but don't think I was "sophisticated" enough as a kid to really get into it.... I think I liked building stuff just to destroy it via godzilla or whatever

Also, don't know if this is odd or not, but whichever one of the PS2 era Madden games that let you manage your own venue and control ticket prices, concession prices, the size of your stadium, etc. was pretty cool, as was GM Mode in the SvR games that had it.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I don't mind micromanagement as a feature of a game, but having that be the entire premise of a full game is just something that's too overwhelming for me. Or something to that effect.

It'd be something if this ends up scoring significantly higher than the "more in-depth" title of The Sims.

Definitely the most troubling feature as the mayor is when your citizens start dying of dysentery, though.

SimAnt was really fun, still can hum the theme to that game.

Was he not in it? Maybe I am recalling the wrong game..... like, disasters would randomly happen to the city, or maybe you made them happen I forget which.... but one of them was you could get a big green monster to attack (probably in a legal sense was not Godzilla)

I know there was this robot orb thing that would come down (see video above) that would destroy shit. Maybe there was something similar a la Reptar but it's been some time. Maybe in another game of the same genre?

And, yes, natural disasters could happen, either randomly at the game's behest or because of our sadistic tendencies.

ngl I definitely pulled up that disaster menu quite a few times and sent waves of tornadoes and alien invasions at the populace for being disobedient and wasteful.

There was that cheat code that would give you instant cash but at the risk of a 15% chance of a fire breaking out.

Totally worth it.

i definitely need to revisit the game. Younger me wasn't "into it" very much and never played as much as I should have.

Would 100% buy a console port if they were to ever do that.

I never beat that game because I taught my creature to enjoy the taste of human flesh... and then in one of the levels there was like meteor shower or something that kills off most of your population.... and then I couldn't stop my insatiable creature as he slowly ate the rest of my populace....

Strange. I know there's definitely been several Godzilla licensed games over different console generations, but that's most likely not anything you're talking about.

I'm really debating this one in my head. Present day me is looking at it as tedious and time-consuming which is why I've STAYED THE FUCK AWAY FROM MINECRAFT. I know that I'm capable of diving down that rabbit hole and letting it get the better of me. EWR can attest to that as well as Animal Crossing: New Horizons after I was badgered into it. However, 16-year old me is remembering being all giddy at all that you could do in this game. I literally had 4 cities running, each on a different computer, in high school, not counting the one on the laptop the school gave me for academic competition. Each one was different save for a giant pyramid of waterfalls in the middle of the map that generated hydroelectric power for the whole city. Reaching the point when you were able to get the arcologies blew my tiny little mind. As much as Quake, Doom, and Duke Nukem took up my computer gaming back in those days, I think this game surpasses them all in terms of time spent. I might end up going with either a 3 or a 4.

It's the Manilow effect, named after the famed singer who died while partying at the Copacabana back in 1980.
