View Full Version : I’m going to give AEW a free idea

MJF, Wardlow and Brian Pillman, Jr. put together one of the more brilliant segments of wrestling I’ve seen on AEW television last week. I’m sure they’ve already fucked it up this week, but here is a direction for the story to go that would actually get me pretty excited:

At Grand Slam, MJF cuts a backstage promo where he kind of babyfaces it up for that crowd. “You think you got something over me in Shitscinatti? That was your shitty little town, but now you’re in mine. I can do whatever I want to you and people are going to cheer me. You’re going out there all alone.”

The crowd can cheer MJF, they can boo him. Doesn’t really matter. If they cheer MJF or even boo BPJ, use it. Make it a part of the match flow. BPJ doesn’t get the adrenaline rush of a crowd. MJF has a psychological advantage. Pillman, Jr. doesn’t go down easy anyway though, and makes a comeback, but somehow Julia Hart gets involved and turns on Brian. Leak that Brian got a leg injury or something during the match too.

MJF cuts a promo on Dynamite. “Those idiots in New York cheered me like I knew they would. Hey, New York — where do you think I coined the phrase ‘I’m better than you and you know it?’ It was living amongst easy-to-manipulate trash like you. And the funny thing is I can tell you all that after the fact and you idiots will still cheer me next time! And Junior, at Arthur Ashe Stadium, I turned the people on you, I kicked your ass, I took your leg from you and then...” MJF turns to Julia Hart. “And then I ate your Hart out.”

The fans will want BPJ. The announcers let people know that it was revealed he has an injury, but MJF even acts like he thinks BPJ is at home too emotionally wrecked to get back in there with MJF.

Cue that silly Battle Royal that MJF puts his ring up in a few weeks later. They usually do it around this time of year, don’t they? Whatever. MJF puts it on the line and a bunch of riff-raff and mid-carders come out. Dustin Rhodes, Joey Janela, Trent, Chuck Taylor — this is the place for all those folk. You can even get DDP and Glacier in there, Glacier doing bad karate on his way to the ring. The big surprise is Chris Jericho, however. “He’s back for MJF’s ring!” - Tony Shiavone. “No shit” - Taz.

The story of the Battle Royal is Jericho/MJF. This final little epilogue to their terribly drawn-out and backwards rivalry. The match comes down to Jericho, MJF and Glacier. Jericho exchanges some words with Glacier then begins to laugh. He points at MJF. “I don’t need your ring! I’ve already beaten you!” Jericho climbs out of the ring and eliminates himself. MJF is a little confused, then Glacier takes off his mask.

It’s Brian Pillman, Jr! Pillman goes nuts on MJF like he’s Dean Malenko in 1998. MJF gets nothing. Pillman tosses his ass and wins the ring. The next show, Dynamite or Rampage, Brian cuts a promo where he says he wasn’t at home licking his wounds. He wasn’t even injured. He was making plans, because that’s what a Pillman does, and that’s what a jack-off like MJF deserves. You took something from me, MJF? You can have her. I’ve got something that means way more to you. Mwah! Come and get it, cupcake.”

MJF and BPJ then set up a match for Full Gear. If Pillman, Jr. is getting over, he beats MJF when Wardlow accidentally distracts the ref and Pillman can use the ring. If it’s falling flat, you can just have MJF win it back or something.

But there they are. The story beats this program should hit. I thought of having Griff Garrison turn on Pillman at some point and replace Shawn Spears in Pinnacle, if that’s even still a thing, but that can come later.

The Battle Royal thing is almost too “artsy” for me, because it involves Jericho in it, this time in the Juvi role while MJF is in the Jericho role. I think that’s kind of nice though. It’s history repeating itself. I think dressing up as Glacier is something a son of The Loose Cannon would do. I like him going away, letting MJF get secure, then coming back to fuck him up when it means something. Jericho gets his fat, egocentric ass involved and “puts over” the young guy without really losing to him, and can remind MJF of that loss he can hold over him for eternity.

It could go past Full Gear, but honestly by then it might be time for MJF to blame his recent bad luck on “Michael,” leading to a babyface turn for Wardlow. But if you want to keep them together for a bit, that’s cool too. Eh, come to think of it, I probably have Griff Garrison turn on BPJ in November or even at Winter is Coming in another match between MJF and BPJ. Garrison replaces Spears in Pinnacle. MJF, Wardlow, FTR & Garrison vs. BPJ, Dustin, Cody, Lee Johnson & Brock Anderson in End Games.

I'd mark out for a real Glacier return....

I like it.

I have spotted one issue though; Glacier’s mask only covers the lower half of his face so it would be pretty obvious that it’s Pullman…

What if they just had Powerhouse Hobbs go into an utter craze where he just destroys CM Punk, a bunch of refs and agents, the rest of Team Taz, and then Tony Khan.

Powerhouse Hobbs then is the biggest star they have, he inserts himself into the World Title Match, destroys Omega and Bryan, then more refs and agents, then the rest of the Elite.

Bam, book it!

Oh, to address that, I just have Glacier debut a new look on AEW Dark.

I really like the idea for the most part however...

Griff Garrison shouldn't be replacing Spears, he could replace Wardlow though when Wardlow gets beaten down by The Pinnacle for not serving MJF a win at Full Gear against Pillman for the ring like you wrote.

I'm wary of a Garrison turn because I'm not sure he's worth investing that much into but if he is then sure go for it. I've just not seen anything that says to me he's a star. He has a very hateable quality to him though so I could actually see a role for him in The Pinnacle, but it's kind of a stretch that MJF would think he's a a "Pinnacle Player".

That’s fair. I’m not big on the guy. I’m just going with the “tools” they have, and thinking of a 1:1 Shawn Spears replacement. I didn’t buy MJF thinking he was Pinnacle material either. Or FTR in AEW kayfabe, really. The whole group has been kind of forced.

Yeah they seem to have been using the Inner Circle and The Pinnacle in a lot looser terms the past few months.

It’s hard to book factions to be these constant forces when they have numbers without jamming them into top position, but they insist on doing it. Pinnacle was literally formed just so Jericho could leech off MJF and go over him at a PPV.

Fair.

However, if you’re going to debut Glacier properly you need to run vignettes for 5 months first so we better get started.

A week of wrestling ages things about 5 months, so we should be good.
