Okay, I had the tournament predicted to be Danielson, Moxley, Black, Miro, Andrade, PAC and maybe Eddie Kingston with someone like Cody Rhodes as a spoiler, who promises not to go for the World Title even if he wins the whole thing. But this whole thing just makes zero sense. And why are you crowning a #1 Contender at all right now? Just bad.

Full Gear would have been fine as Danielson vs. Omega, Christian vs. Cole, Punk/Sting/Darby/Varsity Blonds vs. Pinnacle, Young Bucks vs. Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus. Why do they complicate things?

Danielson could have beaten Omega, Omega whinges about it on Dynamite in Norfolk and Adam Page makes his return and feuds with Omega. If you really wanted Page at the PPV, he could do a singles against someone like Miro, Black, Andrade or PAC. Or the heels take out Luchasaurus, because he sucks, and Page is JB’s tag partner at Full Gear. If Omega is involved in the beating it furthers a potential Omega vs. Page story too.

Dante Martin and either Matt Sydel or Frankie Kazarian should win the Tag Titles from Lucha Bros. Fenix has got singles potential. Pentagon is overrated. FTR should win the belts and have a feud with Punk/Darby/Sting. I’d be fine with Darby & Sting even getting a short reign with the belts at Winter is Coming until maybe Revolution.

I went with Dante Martin & friendo because I think Martin’s got a lot of potential. With Kazarian, I feel like he needs to “get” something here and there if beating him is going to mean anything. I think he would be a good mentor for a kid like Martin too. Sydal is already with Lio Rush though.

I won't be able to watch AEW live anymore for a while due to a new job. But I've watched Dynamite and I really loved it. Just all around awesome show. Rampage was pretty good with Punk/Sydal and Danielson/Suzuki.

Randomly, I'd still say that Walter/Dragunov is MOTY but Danielson/Suzuki is on the list too.

They need to get CM Punk in a major story soon. He is good on commentary, but this holding pattern is getting old.

FTR doing the Los Conquistadores spot was fun. Interested to see how they tell that story. I love Fenix and I'd like Penta more if he didn't do his catchphrase after every single move. Interesting to see where the whole Andrade/MJF thing goes.

Black/Martin was good. I wonder how long they are gonna drag out this storyline with Rhodes though.

I hope this Top Team/Inner Circle feud ends at Full Gear. I love Sammy Guevara. I still hope he turns heel on Jericho down the road and that propels him into the stratosphere. He needs to keep cutting promos and getting more bass in his voice.

Moxley/Yuta was what it was. Moxley actually looking intense and just whipping ass was nice. Planted seeds for OC/Mox in the tournament, and I'm interested to see how that goes. OC is growing on me since they have actually fleshed him out some since I picked AEW back up.

The Superkliq match was fun. Dark Order are a fun jobber group. Don't need to give them too many of these kind of matches, but its always fun to throw an underdog a good showing every once in awhile especially against obnoxious cocky heels like BTE. Triple H/Taka comes to mind.

Tournament bracket is interesting in a couple of the guys in it. Danielson/Rhodes will be hella good next week but it seems obvious it'll be Moxley/Danielson in the finals. Hopefully they make the trip there interesting.

Hangman Page needs to win the title. That was a damn good promo.

I've been a Sting mark since I was 8 years old. I will forever and always love STING.

Women's match was good. Just don't care about the characters much. Danielson/Fish was excellent. Are they gonna keep Fish high on the card like this? The Cody Rhodes video package was stupid. Just have Arn bitchslap him every week (or pistol-whip).

I am interested to see where a lot of these stories go next week.

Yep. Feels a lot like WWE style “booking themselves into a corner”. There are certain guys not in the tournament because you don’t want them to win in the end, so to avoid beating them you leave them out despite it making 0 sense to do so. Just don’t book a tourney to start with.

They’re crowning “The Next #1 Contender” so that you leave Full Gear knowing who the champ is and who their next/first contender will be. I get it, I maybe wouldn’t do it if it didn’t make a great deal of sense, but I get it.
