I figured this is a significant enough event to make a thread for. After 19 years, ROH is shutting down indefinitely to undergo a “reimagining,” which in corporate speak is generally slang for “making terrible.” So for those of us who followed the product through the years, this will most likely be the last time we see ROH in its original form, if at all.

Lethal vs Gresham should be very good.

A part of me wants to watch this but I'll be watching UFC instead.

Are they on good terms with AEW? A couple legendary ROH guys who currently work for AEW showing up by surprise would make for some cool moments.

Very reasonable.

I want the best for ROH, and I’m interested to see what the future holds for them, but looking at that card does kind of slap you in the face with how dire things have gotten.

It could be a good show. It just looks pretty indie.

ROH is indie though....

ROH is indie though....

It doesn’t have to be. It’s a promotion that has been in existence since 2002, featured some of the most outstanding wrestlers on the planet and is owned by a billion dollar company. We could end up splitting hairs about what makes something an independent or not, but it looks like it is struggling for budget now.

Tony Khan has to end up buying it right? Sinclair are going to want to offset it, and TK has endless capital whereas Vince has investors to answer to. TK can pay way over market value for this thing.

What would be the benefit of buying it outright, other than the tape library (and "All In")? Feel like they would just try to buy All In separately if anything

They can just sign anyone they want anyway, and can pick and choose, rather than having to bring on everyone and Khan looking like "the bad guy" for not signing a lot of the roster and staff

When I see Vlnce Untld as a stable name, all I can think is that “Vince Untold” would be a good name for a Vince McMahon book or that documentary series.

Would be kind of cool if Bryan Danielson got added to the Jay Lethal vs. Jonathan Gresham main event and became the interim ROH World Champion or something.

Oh shit. Did they set up FTR vs The Briscoes?

Evil Vito
12-12-2021, 01:14 AM
Seems like it. I’d imagine they’ll turn up on AEW TV before long. Maybe a match on TV between them and if ROH actually does reboot they can have a rematch there.

Gresham indicated he would just be freelancing and wants to wait and see if ROH actually does come back before deciding his long term future, so could well be the Briscoes will do something similar and just keep themselves busy for a few months

Wasn’t expecting Braun aka “The Titan” Adam Scherr to debut either

ROH is not dead and buried just yet, but it does appear as if TNA is going to win the 20 Years War.

How long until Tony Khan goes full spastic that Ring Of Honor doesn't mention how much he helped the show? Sooner than or longer than it took him to spaz out about the NWA Empowerrr show? It was about 3 months that time

Khan is part of the reason why this could be the Final ROH show.

Sinclair is the one and only reason ROH May have had its final show last night. Nobody else’s. The promotion could’ve taken off years ago as an nxt/AEW style alternative but seemingly never got the company backing it needed to take that next step despite having a ridiculous amount of talent they are all mainstays in WWE and AEW.

TK has also tried to take credit for AAA in the past too. I have no doubt he’ll try and take credit for this.

Anecdotal, but:

I haven't seen RoH in months. Why? Because the Sinclair affiliate that aired it around here just up and stopped doing so. Wasn't even like it was on at a decent hour on a decent day, and they replaced it with more Family Guy reruns and/or infomercials (depending on the week). It was on here at 3am on a Sunday (plus side, I got to catch it at work), but now it isn't even on the schedule. Last thing I remember seeing on TV was that thing with The Righteous where Bateman and Vonstarr were cutting a Vincent promo from a postcard and one of the three matches between Sledge and Oshay Edwards. Anything else I've seen since has been piecemeal from random YouTube clips.

I don't know how widespread that might have been, but at least in this case, Sinclair can't complain about "not making money" when you don't bother airing your own product over a syndicated cartoon in its already horrendously shitty timeslot.

They should thank Tony, I don't know what's wrong with all these ungrateful promoters banking off TK's kindness and thick wallet!

I will tune in live whenever FTR vs The Briscoes happens. It’s got old school tag wrestling feels written all over it. The Crockett Cup on our watch-along has me feening for more.

To be fair, I don’t think Sinclair has “complained.” They just decided they aren’t going to pay for contracts anymore. And you’ve got to ask yourself *why* the affiliate decided airing Family Guy was a better decision. There was obviously more money to be made from those reruns than ROH.
