View Full Version : Are we overdue for a third X-Men Legends game?

I'm not sure where the franchise stands as far as who is legally allowed to make another entry but the last game was in 2005 and in the meantime we had the Ultimate Alliance games to handle that style of gameplay. It might seem like a thing that's destined to remain relegated to the past but with the X-Men under the Disney umbrella and a new take on them in the form of a revival series in 2023, is X-Men Legends 3 something we'd want? The second game kind of left the door open but we didn't have time to worry about that as the first Ultimate Alliance game got dropped not that long after. What would you want to see in a third game if such a thing was palatable to you? Are we better off without a third game? What say you?

Have never been able to get into those games. I prefer my superhero games to really make you feel like you're controlling that hero. You don't really get that in the diablo format.

And that's understandable, and it would be fine if the games offered the vast build customization that diablo style games are known for. But they don't. They go for quantity over quality, and include a boatload of heroes that have much shallower gameplay than classes in other action rpgs.

Well, you would have hated the roster I had in mind for a third game. :o

Closest thing you're probably going to get is Midnight Suns coming out late next year. It's not like the X-Men Legends or Ultimate Alliance you're thinking of. It's playing like X-COM since Firaxis is handling development.

As far as licensing is concerned, I think Marvel/Disney is handing that stuff out to whoever they feel like they can trust.

Ultimate Alliance is more or less the continuation of X-Men Legends. Switch has part 3. It was alright.

I hated the leveling system for Ultimate Alliance 3. Only 5 ranks for each skill? No stats on how much energy something costs? Managing the ISO-8 was also pretty tedious, even for these kinds of games.

I did a synopsis way back when on what a third X-Men Legends could entail...or rather what I wanted it to entail. If we're going off of how the second game ended, then logically the big baddie would be Sinister. This was my ideal roster:

Archangel
Avalanche
Beast
Bishop
Blob - With this guy and Avalanche I say add in some Brotherhood characters we haven't played as yet.
Cable
Colossus
Cyclops
Dazzler
Emma Frost
Forge - I'd picture his skill set being tech-based. I like him too much to just have him saddled as the shopkeeper.
Gambit
Havok
Iceman
Jean Grey
Jubilee
Magma
Marrow
Marvel Girl - Rachel Summers needs more love.
Nightcrawler
Polaris - WTF is with her getting the shaft in adaptations outside of the comics? Obviously she'd fill the Magneto role.
Psylocke - It was God damn CRIMINAL that you only get to play as her in the last few levels in the first game and that she was omitted completely in the second game. You get to play as her more times in the Ultimate Alliance series. What's up with that?
Pyro
Quicksilver - The trick here would be avoiding making him too OP.
Rogue
Sabretooth
Scarlet Witch
Storm
Toad
Wolverine

And of course you'd have to have some DLC characters:
Hellion
Mercury
Rockslide
Surge
Wind Dancer
X-23

So that's 36 in total, which is significantly more than the first two games but slightly more than Ultimate Alliance. Nowhere near what Ultimate Alliance 3 has so I think today's hardware can handle it.

I bought X-Men Legends Rise of The Apocalypse for the PSP ( not sure why cause i hacked it ) but its a great game on PSP. Not as good as on PS2, but really good.

I think we need a new X-Men Legends and i'd like to see the first 2 get a bit of a remaster.

A remaster with the graphics from Ultimate Alliance 2 would be pretty cool.

UA3 had the better art style.

UA3 had the better art style.

It's a bit cartoony for something that's current gen but some of the character designs were great. Psylocke, Scarlet Witch, Loki, Iceman, and The Fantastic 4 in particular. Reed rocking that sweet beard was win.

'Cartoony' (expressive art models) aren't contingent on which generation we're on. Realism isn't a forward evolution. It all depends on what you're going for. Avengers game looks good. UA3 also looks good. I lean towards 'cartoony' because it best expresses what we're dealing with here; people who shoot lasers out of their hands lol

Better cartoons than K-mart MCU.
