You like wrestling. You watch wrestling. You most likely have hard opinions on wrestling. I know I do.

Watch a match and give us your rating on it. It can be an old match, a new match, a match you’re watching live. It doesn’t matter. Sound off in the replies. Help a new fan discover a forgotten classic. Help a mark avoid a land mine shithole match. Let’s go.

Rewatch of Bret vs Austin from Wrestlemania 13. 100%

This match is perfect. The match is perfectly violent and technical. The crowd is hot. The commentary is great. Also an underrated part of the match is that Ken Shamrock is probably the best guest referee of all time. He plays the role perfectly.

Hangman Page vs Lance Archer - Texas Death Match

Shit got real wild in this one but honestly I didn't care at first. It wasn't til they got bleeding that I got into it. Once the blood was flowing I was hooked. Then we got some insane bumps like when Archer chokeslamed Hangman off the apron onto the side of the steel steps. It was a bump that seemed super unsafe, like bad for pro wrestling because someone might get impaled. We've seen some injuries like that in AEW, with Cash, Fenix, Matt Hardy and Archer himself.

Eventually the top rope was removed to deny Hangman his finish which was cool... Lambert and Jake were involved and the blood just kept on flowing. It finished with a really crafty spot where Hangman used the referee as a springboard to do a version of his finish the flipping lariat, but this one sent them both crashing through the tables. Hangman was the first to make it to his feet, barely before the 10 count. Winning in dramatic fashion, only to have to face off with another contender Adam Cole.

I give the match 3 3/4 Meltzer stars.

The tag match with FTR vs Punk and Moxley was my first contender for MOTY however. I loved everything about it and it made me really happy to be watching pro wrestling when it was happening. I felt like when I was 10 watching HBK team with Austin against the Road Warriors on Raw or something. Just a great big time dream tag match. I really want more tags like that in AEW with these dream partners.

The last match I watched was Bull Buchanan vs. Mike Awesome from Velocity in 2002. It just randomly popped up. I quite like Bull. He’s a guilty pleasure. Nothing wrong with it. Tazz is bored and shitting on the match. Crowd doesn’t care much. Bull tries to wake them up with his leaping clothesline from the top. Bull wins the match with a flying leg drop.

I’ll give it **. It was nothing spectacular, nothing horrible. High spots where they should count. It was fine.

HHH vs. Roman Reigns (WrestleMania 32)

The cherry on the diarrhea shake, this was Vince's attempt at causing the biggest mass suicide since Jonestown. Everything about this had bad idea written all over it, from the fans not buying Reigns to HHH being the world champion in GOD DAMN TWENTY FUCKING SIXTEEN. Honestly, this whole show was a trainwreck but this put the final nail in my brain. I stopped watching wrestling after this and never looked back. This can take my NO STARS, BIYATCH rating up its ass and like it as I make my slow and steady progress to my grave with the knowledge that this is the last match I'll have ever watched.

In honor of Stone Cold's posdible return, I watched his last match. Wrestlemania 19 vs The Rock.

Considering what all came out after the fact, Austin being in the hospital the night before, that it was going to close the show before that happened, and the way it incorporated their previous bouts, even though Austin lost, this is probably my 2nd favorite match of his (1st being the 13 match Supreme brought up, which funny enough Austin also lost).

If the Bret match was a 10/10, I think it is fair to rate his Mania 19 match as a 9.75/10.

Dick Murdoch and Adrian Adonis vs Private Terry Daniels and Sgt Slaughter. July.23 1984 at MSG for the Tag belts.

Murdoch and Adonis are my favourite WWF team of the 80s. I've watched this match a couple times. Slaughter is so over here. Adonis and Murdoch retain in a fun match.I wish people saw more of this team. They were sooooo good. They left right before Wrestlemania 1 which is the starting point for people who watched the company in the 80s so they tend to be forgotten.

Two and a half out of five.

Bret Hart versus Mr. Perfect from King of the Ring 1993

This one is a knockdown drag-out war. Hard-hitting, gritty, and intense.

These two had tons of matches on House Shows in the late 80s, but this one breaks the formula a bit because they're both faces here. Typically--including in their Summerslam match--the heel-face-divide is far more evident because Hennig does the chickenshit stuff.

At KOTR 93, though, Hennig is the more heelish face in the match (but only because it's so hotly contested), yet he doesn't do the usual coward stuff. He's just aggressive, mean, and nasty. His chops are absolutely brutal. He does a sort of awkward missile dropkick at one point, but it ends up looking really good because he smashes Bret, who takes a great bump off of it.

There's so much good stuff in this match. They legitimately WORK holds. They don't do rest holds. A headlock is used to build tension, and they never stop moving when something is sinched in.

They're both selling from their earlier matches. Bret's got his fingers taped up, which is such a good visual. There is nothing more babyface than going to battle when held together by tape and bandages. Speaking of which, a nice spot is when Hennig yanks on Hart's injured fingers during a Sharpshooter attempt.

This match isn't pretty by any means. The guys are snug, rough and tumble, and it comes across as a fight. Things get messy as a result despite a standard of crispness throughout. At one point, Bret gets hurtled off the apron, and they misjudge the distance to the rail, so he smashes into a cooler. One of those happy accidents because it plays into the stakes of the match.

Besides that nasty bump, some of the bigger spots include a nice super plex by Bret. And right near the end of the match, they also do a suplex off the apron to the floor that's safe but adds to the chaos. Hennig also gets a lot out of a sleeper hold that he applies with ferocity, maximizing a very simple move, a theme in this match and many other Bret Hart matches. A good figure-four spot too with Bret in control that has Hennig selling his knee for the remainder of the match.

Really, I can go on all day about this one. These two manage to build tension and draw the viewer in without doing a single near fall until Bret reverses Hennig's small package at the end for the win. It reminds me of a hotly contested playoff game in any sport, where both teams are at the top of their game, and it turns into an absolute dog fight.

Rating: A+++++++++, one of my all-time favourites. They earn the crowd's attention too. The Nutter Center faithful were a little aimless, to begin with, but the action in the ring wouldn't allow for silence. And lastly, a shoutout to the commentary team of Heenan, JR, and Macho Man (who was actually good in this match for once). You could tell they loved watching this, and Heenan getting nostalgic about managing Perfect when he was heeling out was hilarious and added to an already awesome encounter.

Blake Davenport (Bea Preistly) vs Meiko Satomura NXT UK womens title- 3 1/2 stars

Verrrrry tempted to give this 4 stars. I wanted to see if Meiko could carry Bea Preistly to a good match. I'll eat crow on that one because even though Meiko does carry the first half of the match, once Bea takes over she holds her own and even has a couple nice, clever counters. She's definitely improved quite a bit.

Meiko at 42 years old, is still my vote for best in ring female wrestler in the world. Lays her shit in, snd everything she does looks real while still being safe. She's like if Rhonda Rousey had 25 years of experience.

Great American Bash '98 is fun to watch. The main event is a shit show but the under card is awesome. It has Booker T vs Beonit and Finlay later on. Plus Saturn vs Kanyon in a really good match and Jericho vs Malenko.

Hogan & Bret Hart vs Piper and Savage is the main draw, nothing special but really a fun show IMO.

For Lance Storm, I loved him in WCW. I think his best work would probably be on Nitro's where he got a lot of promo time and did a lot of fun angles when he was a triple champion. I think he was always solid in the matches there but I don't remember any being special.

Just looking through Lance Storms Meltzer match ratings on IWDB which has all his ratings logged from The Observer reviews. His highest match rating is 3 3/4 for a tag match at Heat Wave 99. As a singles it doesn't look like he ever scored above a 3 1/4th rating from Meltzer. Some Australian girl group is kicking off with the Australian National Anthem. I’ve never heard of them. Bret Hart is coming down as the Commissioner. Jeremy Borash and Jerry Lawler are your commentators. The promoter is a guy named Andrew McManus. In 2015 he got busted for importing 600lbs of cocaine and did 30 days community service, no jail time. Fucking wild.

Mr. Nerfect
02-27-2022, 12:43 PM
Bret Hart is cutting a meandering promo. It covers 9/11, never coming to Australia, being stuck here, being grateful, never being beaten as champion, passing the torch, not watching wrestling for a year being “fun,” and calling Vince McMahon a piece of shit. You can tell the crowd wants him to shut up, but they respect him so they’re kind of just waiting for it to be over. You cannot make this stuff up.

Mr. Nerfect
02-27-2022, 12:49 PM
Borash and Lawler can be heard over the PA system and it’s weird. But I think that if they didn’t do it, no one would have a fucking clue what is going on. Anyway, the first actual match is Juventud Guerrera vs. Psicosis in a Ladder Match for the WWA International Cruiserweight Championship. It’s also the first round in the Seven Deadly Sins Tournament to crown a WWA World Heavyweight Champion.

Juventud is doing his Rock rip-off bit. They basically have what you’re expect between Juvi and Psicosis on an off night. Psicosis is bleeding. Juvi fucks up a crossbody off a ladder. The ladder then falls onto the referee’s head as he’s checking on both guys and King is hysterically laughing. I have no clue why a referee is in there anyway. That’s about the standout stuff. 2/5. If you expected a classic between these two talented guys, you’d probably be disappointed. The standout spot being the fuck up is a bit sad. But it wasn’t as horrible as horrible can be.

Mr. Nerfect
02-27-2022, 12:56 PM
They just brought out a knockoff Nitro Girls group called “The Starettes.” They dance like strippers as Jerry Lawler gushes over the PA. Because people are listening to the commentary, they are eerily quiet when on regular shows people would be making a bit of noise. So these strippers are dancing to nothing but a pervy old man talking about how horny he is. This is amazing for all the wrong reasons.

Well, at least he was. He slaps Nathan Jones in a “let’s go buddy” kind of way and hurts his hand. Lenny & Lodi are there and say he’s got no fashion sense. Disco Inferno is then walking backstage and tells a production guy he’s been getting bombed since being in this country, so he wants “two suits” for protection. Faaaarrrrkkk, I know where this is going. I feel like I’ve seen this and just erased it from my memory.

The next match is a Dog Collar Match between “Konan” and “The Road Dog.”

Never been the biggest fan of either guy, but their promo work wakes the crowd up, I’ve got to say. Konnan attacks Road Dogg before he can do his routine intro and basically mocks Road Dogg because the other members of DX are still gainfully employed and he got fired by the WWF. So I don’t know what WWA is supposed to count for. I think that’s the first time anyone has been mocked for not being Billy Gunn.

Jeremy Borash keeps calling Road Dogg a 7-time WWF Tag Team Champion. He’s only won it 5 times. The only 7 time champs are Edge & Christian. Mankind & Billy Gunn are on 8 each. Has no clue where he is getting that number from.

In this Dog Collar Match you can win by slapping the turnbuckles, which isn’t announced until it starts happening in the match. So there are lots of accidentally comedic spots where Road Dogg or Konnan is touching the turnbuckles and the other guy just comes up and starts beating them up like they couldn’t detect them coming. So many low blows. I’ve counted 3. Hilarious spot where Konnan tries to mock Road Dogg’s theatrics but then gets knocked on his ass.

Holy fucking shit, this is amazing. Konnan’s dog collar keeps popping off and he just doesn’t give a shit at some point. He climbs the top rope and dives off with a crowbar or something, but he’s holding it so weird because he’s going to catch a foot from RD to chin himself, which just looks so funny. Road Dogg now awkwardly tied up Konnan with the chain, mimes having anal sex with the hog-tied man, then struggles to keep his own collar on as Konnan’s fat ass keeps pulling it off. Road Dogg is basically holding it on looking like he’s choking himself as he touches the turnbuckles, but it pops off before he touches the 4th and they’re all like “Fuck it.”

This show is an amazing time capsule of fuckery. I’m giving that one 4/5 for just the comedy of how insane it was.

02-27-2022, 01:36 PM
There’s going to be a “Skin to Win” match. It’s four women and…I don’t know, I’m watching the show, but I guess the plan is someone is supposed to get naked? There’s a Penthouse Pet and two other women. They are all shown “stretching” seductively. Borash and Lawler are gushing over a fourth — Borash is like “bring it on baby.” They’re looking at their ass, then it is revealed they have a bulge in the front and King freaks out. Hahaha, homophobia/transphobia.

From the other side of sanity, here comes Devon Storm for a Hardcore Match with Norman Smiley. “The following is a Hardcore Rules Match which means there are no rules.” - Jeremy Borash. This is amazing.

I’ve never seen much Devon Storm. He hits the ring in jeans and does three sentons to no one in the ring. It looks so silly but I think it’s supposed to make him look deranged. I’m feeling deranged after watching this show.

“Devon Storm listens to the voices in his head. I listen to the voices in my pants.” - I’m not going to go back and quote it verbatim, but that’s a Jerry Lawler quote. He’s not even trying. You can tell King LOVES Norman Smiley though. He’s easily the best part of the show so far.

Okay, so the finish to this match was fucking amazing. Devon Storm puts Norman Smiley on two stacked tables. He then throws a trash can up on the rigging to the stage. He climbs up and then throws the trash can down on Smiley. He then hits a splash off the rigging, putting Smiley through the two tables and…Smiley covers Storm to win the match.

2/5. Smiley brought it to life at times. They busted their ass, but it was a WCW Hardcore Match. The best spot was Norman’s body slam.

Disco Inferno is presented with his “friends.” He said he didn’t want friends, he wanted “suits.” They are a Bananas in Pyjamas parody. I don’t understand how anyone could write this.

Stevie Ray is a backstage interviewer. He’s interviewing Bret Hart. It’s so weird to think of Bret Hart being the kayfabe matchmaker on this show. He makes a Battle Royal, which was already announced, and opens it up to anybody. Stevie Ray asks if roving reporters like him can enter. Bret Hart asks him what he’s waiting for, Stevie rips off his glasses and says “I’m going to kick me some ass.” It’s easily the best thing on the show so far, at least intentionally. The referee getting hit with the ladder might be up there.

This Battle Royal is surreal. It starts off with just Buff Bagwell and Disco Inferno. Stevie Ray then walks out and starts beating up both guys. Devon Storm and Norman Smiley then join the fray. Jerry Lawler then gets off commentary and pulls Jeremy Borash into the ring with him. It’s so weird seeing Lawler interact with so many WCW guys.

JB is dumped and two referees high five each other and enter the match. A camera guy puts down his camera and enters. One of the referees — I think it is Slick Johnson — jumps onto Stevie’s shoulders. I think that’s the most athletic thing anyone has done on this show. Devon Storm is on commentary for some reason. He’s horrible. He’s making this weird noise at the end of his statements — I don’t know if that’s supposed to be a reference to something, but it’s not funny.

A woman enters the match. Of course Jerry Lawler tries to pin her. She voluntarily exits the match she voluntarily entered to avoid being sexually assaulted by The King.

It comes down to Disco Inferno and Buff Bagwell. The Fruits in Suits come down and eliminate Disco Inferno. Buff Bagwell then eliminates the guys in ghoulish banana costumes to advance in the tournament to crown a World Champion.

This cannot be rated with numerical values. This is @/5. It’s from another planet. Who would think that a staggered comedy Battle Royal for a World Title shot is a good idea to include on your inaugural PPV?

I didn't even know that SNH was even still around in 2005. :wtf:

Jerry Lawler is going to investigate The Fruits in Suits. I can’t remember exactly what happens, but I know it is horrible.

Heat was around until 2008. This would have been during the period it was on Spike TV. Later that year it would be moved to WWE.com.

Rove McManus cuts a promo on Jeff Jarrett. “The only person doing some stroking tonight is going to be you in your hotel room.”

Jeff Jarrett comes out and cuts a promo calling Rove McManus a gay slur. He uses both “slapnuts” and “slapasses.” He’s wrestling Nathan Jones, whose contribution to the Rove promo was to say “Yeah!”

Rove McManus cuts an in-ring promo. More gay slurs. I have to say that Rove is not bad though. You can tell he loves wrestling. It’s a shame that he’s the best promo on the show so far.

Nathan Jones…been a while since I’ve seen this gem. They announce him from Sydney, Australia, but I’m fairly certain he’s from another state completely.

His selling is fucking terrible. Had no clue he started this early, and apparently he made his debut in 1997. He shouldn’t be this bad. Will be interesting to see if Jeff can carry him.

Holy shit. So Jeff just charged Jones. It’s like Jones got caught between going for a sidewalk slam and a tilt-a-whirl. He powers Jeff up, but he’s facing the wrong way to put him down in a sidewalk slam, so Jeff goes backwards, and flips right out.

Lol, Rove is actually really good on commentary. It’s actually him that tries to cover for Jones by pointing out that Jarrett is sweaty. He’s actually got a knack for this. He points out his specialty is the Chokeslam. He’s actually using lines and delivery to get this guy over.

Holy shit, Nathan Jones clotheslined Jeff out of the ring, but went with him. You can tell he didn’t mean to. He is HORRIBLE. He just tossed Jeff back into the ring, but didn’t clear him over the top rope, so Jeff’s leg got caught and he spun back in.

I know Jeff Jarrett has done an episode of his podcast about the WWA. He has to talk about this match. It would be a nightmare. This guy has dropped him, or dropped himself on him no less than 3 times in 3 minutes.

Rove McManus would probably work a better match with Jeff.

By the way, I forgot to mention — this is a Guitar on a Pole Match.

Jeff Jarrett fucking KILLS Rove with the guitar. Rove sells better than just about anyone on this show.

The match was horrible. That’s got to be a 0/5. But Rove McManus made it very enjoyable in parts. You can’t ask much more from a celebrity’s involvement.

Ah yes. Jerry Lawler brings out the bananas and Lenny & Lodi come out. Jerry calls him “Low-dye.” There are lots of gay jokes about fruits. Bret Hart comes out and tells King to get behind the desk and not to leave it again. He asks the fruits to get out of the ring and Jerry asks “Which ones?” Bret goes to keep talking but then “gets it” and chuckles to himself. That’s the funniest part of this horrible, horrible segment.

We’re now getting Lenny (or “Lonnie” as Bret called him) vs. Lodi vs. Road Dogg in a three-way semi-final.

I’m exhausted. I’m going to bed. I hope this doesn’t invade my dreams. Way more fun than AEW, but was heartbreaking at the time for anyone who wanted an alternative, I’m sure.
