Just a reminder that WWE thought it was a good idea to put Seth Rollins over Brock Lesbar multiple times.

I don't expect the Austin/KO "confrontation" to really resemble a match. Probably 15 minutes of talking, maybe 5 minutes of brawling and inevitably ending with Austin drinking beers over KO's downed body.

The only “funny” part of that Vince/Seth segment was Vince asking Seth what’s special about this WrestleMania, and then no-selling the two nights reply from Seth but nodding along to “stupendous.”

Shane McMahon is being brought in by WWE and will at least be "in town" for WrestleMania weekend, PWInsider says
What if he is Seth Rollins' opponent instead of Cody.....
WWE is bringing Shane McMahon in for Wrestlemania 38 this weekend, PWInsider.com has confirmed with multiple sources.
There is no word at this time whether McMahon will be appearing on the PPV yet but we are told he will be in town for the entire Wrestlemania weekend.

I’ve learned today that they’re doing an NXT special the afternoon of Wrestlemania Saturday right before Night 1 in a different arena 30 minutes away.
That seems completely insane.
Evil Vito

Shane getting booed out of the building as Seth’s opponent would be absolutely fucking hysterical tbh
Would seem “insane” to not bring someone else out post match though. Doesn’t need to be Cody if they want to save him for Raw but maybe Taker or HBK...basically just someone to get a pop and wipe the stink of Shane off of the segment.
I was thinking this could end up being a bit of a “bait and switch” and Cody debuts on Raw and Seth gets somebody else.

If you’re a casual WWE fan, or someone that stays away from internet bullshit and doesn’t give a shit about AEW — other than the chants, what indication do you have that Cody Rhodes would be making his return to face Seth Rollins?
I can see fans expecting Shawn Michaels or The Undertaker in Texas. Kevin Owens has been calling out Texas legends. I could even see Booker T. But Cody? You could argue that it could bury him to some people.
I’m not saying it won’t be Cody. I just think this is a pretty horrible way to set that up. It shouldn’t have been a mystery. Cody should have returned and explained why he’s having the match with Seth.
Mr. Nerfect
03-30-2022, 12:08 PM
There are fans who talk every now and then about The Rock coming back. They hear Vince talking about a “main event” for Seth Rollins, are they thinking Cody Rhodes before their imagination goes to The Rock? Do they even know Triple H is done and it can’t be him? John Cena?
If you wanted to trick someone into thinking it was going to be The Rock, you can use Seth’s little program with Roman Reigns as fuel. “The story is that Roman has never beaten Seth, but The Rock comes in and does it to set up challenging Roman next year…”
It’s just wild to me that going cold is how you deliver Seth vs. Cody.
Mr. Nerfect
03-30-2022, 12:11 PM
I mean, it’s the Hall of Fame. People KNOW The Undertaker is going to be there. And that Scott Steiner is going to be there. Are there more people who are going to care about Seth vs. Cody watching than would mark out if it was Scott Steiner suplexing Seth for 3 minutes straight?
Mr. Nerfect
03-30-2022, 12:16 PM
Dean Ambrose. If you’re not an AEW fan or someone who cares to be aware that they exist, why wouldn’t you kind of expect Dean Ambrose before Cody Rhodes? Or Daniel Bryan?
And yes, Shane McMahon makes more sense too. Even someone already on the roster. Just baffling.
Mr. Nerfect

Hell, VINCE makes more sense from an on-air WWE perspective right now.

I would rather one concise, 4 hour show with the important stuff. But two separate nights is still better than a marathon.
Yeah this. It's really over doing it to me to keep making WM an 8 hour event whether it's 1 or 2 shows. They should have just done it that one year and went back to a four hour show after 2019. I get what they are trying to do but overall I think it de values the spectacle of what WrestleMania is supposed to be because it's just too long and features too much
The reaction to Cody (if it is indeed him) will be interesting at the very least.

I would say it is most certainly going to be Cody. I don't see WWE pulling any kind of a 'swerve bro'

I don’t think the live crowd is going to be the problem. I think it’ll be Joe Average watching WrestleMania on a service he already has because he heard Steve Austin was coming back. And the kids at school with with wild imaginations that can do a lot more than imagine Cody Rhodes, just like they could do a lot more than imagine something bigger than Tony Khan’s announcements (if they even pay attention to that at all). I think it’s the global audience of which there is very little care factor for AEW at all.
XL is right in using the word “interesting.”

I agree with you, but the irony is that Cody, to a lot of people, might actually be the swerve. Fans know Undertaker’s going to be there. It’s in Texas. Is it really more likely to someone who just watches television week-to-week that it’s going to be Undertaker than a guy who left wrestling (as far as they’re concerned) on a mid-card level 5 years ago?
Mr. Nerfect
03-30-2022, 04:35 PM
I’m getting “Vince is getting frustrated with his own product” vibes from a lot on this card, honestly. The thing I’m most interested in is seeing how, if at all, their direction changes after WrestleMania.
Mr. Nerfect
03-30-2022, 04:46 PM
The “conspiracy theorist” in me thinks this may be an intentional way to bury Cody and really get the story out there that no one gives a flying fuck about AEW beyond a few fans in a bubble on the internet.
Evil Vito
03-30-2022, 04:51 PM
I mean we're basically at a point where the matches that make people say "Really? That's a WrestleMania match?" are the ones that feature only people who wrestle on TV weekly.
If it doesn't involve someone who wrestles on TV sparingly, a legend, or a celebrity...it automatically feels less important by default because it's not an "attraction" and you could see it on any random episode of Raw or SmackDown. And none of the stories in those matches are compelling.
I was. The way Seth addressed the chants on the clip I saw from Raw made me think that the plan is for Cody to be the guy.
Interesting how the “this doesn’t make sense from a busienss POV” stance changes when you actually watch a little of the product :p
That’s not to say it does make sense from a busienss POV by the way.

It’s not so much watching the product as it is even the concept of having Cody debut cold. It is such an AEW move. They managed to kill my interest in Christian almost immediately (one of my favorites). But signing with AEW will do that.
The live crowd will probably go for it, but I genuinely think audiences are home will be lost.
I kind of want to go out on a limb, make a wild prediction and say that I don’t think Cody is going to be the guy. It probably is, but if it’s not then it’s going to be like “Of course it wasn’t, lol.”
Mr. Nerfect
03-31-2022, 01:22 PM
Seth apparently just made a comment somewhere calling himself the new Mr. WrestleMania. If you don’t give a fuck about AEW (most fans) and hear Seth say that in front of WrestleMania in Texas, why wouldn’t you half-expect Shawn Michaels to come dancing through that curtain?
Mr. Nerfect
03-31-2022, 01:27 PM
The Undertaker is going to be AT WRESTLEMANIA. He’s going into the Hall of Fame. It’s Texas. Who is inducting him? Vince McMahon. Who is picking Seth’s “main event” opponent? Vince McMahon.
Fuck, if I were a WWE fan I’d be leaning more towards Seth vs. Taker vs. Shawn in a Triple Threat than Seth vs…Cody Rhodes? Lolwut, wasn’t he Stardust?
Mr. Nerfect
03-31-2022, 01:29 PM
Cody would fit in the Andre Battle Royal. Or the Raw after Mania. Or something with a build. Maybe a US Title open challenge. Being cold in a big match doesn’t work for him. In my opinion.

Don’t know if this has already be posted but supposedly the IC title hasn’t been fought for on a PPV show since last years Wrestlemania.
Not in here but it was discussed when Nakamura dropped the title.
From what I can tell he had 1 contenders match…and lost it. And then didn’t defend the title against the person that won the Contendership match. He won the match against Priest by DQ…on the Kickoff show. Who cares about House shows? They’re mostly non-canon.
I think it’s less about what Nak looks like and more about what the title looks like. Being the champion should come with some focus, some prestige. The title hasn’t been defended on a PLE since Mania last April, the champion has only appeared on one PLE since then and that was to make up the numbers in the Rumble before being unceremoniously dumped out.
I know the Intercontinental Championship has fallen in status since it’s heyday in the 80s but this feels like an all time low. It doesn’t make any sense to have a championship get this little focus, this little attention.
You were the next person to respond

This card seems very thin to me. Brock/Roman, Styles/Edge should be really good. All of the random tag's and multiperson matches are pretty lame though. Pat/Theory could be good, Zayn/Knoxville might be fun but could easily be terrible and I'm not expecting anything special from Logan Paul.
Hopefully the KO Show with Austin delivers big. Also I think Lashley and Omos might be fun.

Just a random thought that nothing will come from: So let's just go with the assumption that Seth vs Cody is def what we are getting. Considering Seth just openly shat on AEW in an interview...what if Cody comes in in defense of AEW? What if all the speculation of Cody leaving AEW being a work or Cody going to WWE both turn out to be true in a sense and that this is the forbidden door and they really have worked everyone?
Day 2 card much stronger than Day 1 IMO
