Happy 2/22/22 to everyone! Yeah, I'm using mm/dd/yy format. Who cares? That's not what's important. What's important is that you're here and you're here for the 98th edition of Rate the Game! It's the final one of February and we're no doubt looking forward to some better weather in the next month. I'm just thankful we didn't suffer from another Queen Elsa scenario like last year. I'm also thankful for everyone participating in last week's affair as we looked back on the Nintendo 64's Banjo-Kazooie! How'd it stack up overall? Let's look at the leaderboard....

Fortunately, I didn't have to do a lot of math when calculating the average as Banjo-Kazooie drew solid fours across the board with the people who played it. I don't think that's ever happened with any of the other games. Well it's got some company in that orgy going on in the number 27 slot. Why not throw in a bear and bird on top of that?

Well now we get into what are we going to throw on top of this for this week? Let's dig up number 98, shall we?

<iframe src="https://giphy.com/embed/ElaHDSmtxxF5Q7uMN1" width="480" height="269" frameBorder="0" class="giphy-embed" allowFullScreen></iframe><p><a href="https://giphy.com/gifs/ElaHDSmtxxF5Q7uMN1">via GIPHY</a></p>

Nailed it. I got this whole "pulling out" thing down to a science. On tap for this week is the Super Nintendo RPG EarthBound! Or for you Japanese connoisseurs, Mother 2, the sequel to Mother, if you're not sure what we're talking about. This game has developed quite a following in the past few years but the question is how does it fare with you? Are you part of the pack that has put this game up to sacred cow status? We've got the poll and the forum to express ourselves here so let's dig in. Stay warm and stay safe. Until next week!

Played later in life, never really hooked me but I did appreciate the humor in the game.

It wouldn't shock me if there ends up being a high number of people who haven't touched this game. It didn't sell well upon release over here and physical copies are an arm and a leg to buy nowadays. It did get released virtually, though, recently and it just dropped on the Switch's online service earlier this month if anyone's got a hankering to give it a whirl.

Easy 5.

the only reason i dont give this a 5 is because how the damage works. i get what they were going for by giving you time to react while the health rolls down. they wanted to add a real time factor for stess and engagement. but i like my turn based games to give me time with no stress. really puts me off. amaizngly written game though. among the best scripts ever perhaps.

One of my favorite episodes. It reminded me of the ads for the game in my issues of GamePro. The smells on those scratch-and-sniff things actually lasted a good while.

Hard to believe he just did his 200th episode. A 3 part one where he literally goes over every single LJN game.

Saw all of that. I get what he was trying to say with it in that LJN was in a rough spot with some of these games, but still, fuck them for making my childhood a whole lot more miserable. :nono:

I enjoyed the rolling damage in Earthbound and Mother 3, it made the battle feel really urgent if your party took mortal damage and you couldn't revive them, like you had to just spam attacks as fast as you could while ignoring taking care of your party to the extend that you could as a last ditch effort to finish off the battle. It made it pretty exciting

Destor

that's exactly what theyre were going for and i think they achieved it. it just so happens thats the exact opposite of what i want from a turn based game. im playing them deliberately to avoid urgency.

Found my old issue of GamePro that had the infamous stink ad and the review on top of it.
