Welcome, one and all! Today we cast off the month of February and kick off March, hopefully with a bang. Things are certainly rocky out there in the world but we can't be spazzing out about it uncontrollably. :shifty: Ahem...anyways, Rate the Game time! Last week EarthBound had its day in the sun but how bright does it shine here among the TPWW Universe?

So, yeah, I had to make some significant changes to the leaderboard to accommodate what's going on over on the number 27 slot, which is where EarthBound ends up. It's a ten-way orgy of goodness over there, all with a solid 4.0 average. Hard to go wrong with any one of those titles.

Alright, week 99, let's get down to it. We've got the bowl here to work its magic. What do you have for us this time around?

There we go. Well we're not dealing with a massively-armored super soldier with an A.I. companion but we are tackling an epic sci-fi space shooter nonetheless. It's the choice-driven adventure of Commander Shepard, Mass Effect! How much of an effect did this have on your gaming experience, if any? Let's do that rating thing we do and start off March on a high note. Until next week.

Just Part I or the trilogy?

Just the first. I'm sure you could count it as one whole huge epic game but we'll just deal with part 1 in this case.

The original game is a masterpiece. the game was designed with 2 goals. firstly to bridge the gap from rpg and action game. it looks like a cover shooter but mechanically its not. its stats and dice rolls happening in the background. the second role this game was designed to perform was to let you feel grounded in this world. really going through the minutia of the moments to allow the world building to take hold. it achieves these perfectly.

unfortunatly EA purchased bioware before 2 came out and the game it was meant to appear like, 3rd person cover shooter, is exactly what the game became. this brought in the larger player base from the more popular genre, who all loved the new direction, and so goes the rest of the story.

but man as an rpg fan that first game was as engrossing of a world ive ever explored in gaming. just captivating.

and 2 and 3 are fun as streamlined as they become and even in the ways they become generic its still all very solid.

but for ME1 is it. easy 5.

Phew, things back to normal this week.

Never played it.

I'll give it a 4, only because some of the gameplay felt clunky at the time. I do have ME Legendary Edition, and the gameplay is MUCH smoother in the updated version. Outside of that, this was my favorite RPG at the time. I remember playing through the first one, getting to the end and being all "AWWWW shit gotta get 2 now". Bought it from gamestop, used, for like 10 bucks.

Overall though, the greatest trilogy I've played.

Yeah. You can't go wrong with this game.

5.

The first two are classics. The third, which we're not discussing, I soured on a little bit at the original ending(s). The endings added in made it somewhat better, but if we were rating it instead of ME1, it would probably be a 4. ME1 is an easy 5 though. The dialogue system alone not to mention everything else makes it a 7th generation classic.

Looks like Lock Jaw and I won't be the only ones alone on this one.

Really wish I'd been able to play this back when it came out. Hell, the whole trilogy. It sounded pretty neat. I kick myself for not picking up the collection when I saw it in a Gamestop one time. I'm sure I can find it online but nowhere near the same price. I know fans hated the way the trilogy ended and I was actually curious as to what would cause such an uproar. Sadly, I don't know if I'd be able to tackle it with the long list of titles I still have in my backlog.

I found it for a little over 30 bucks which is a bargain but I'm hesitant to buy it when I'm sitting on a list of titles that I haven't managed to get around to finishing. Two games that I was really looking forward to playing, Spider-Man on PS4 and Halo: Infinite, are still incomplete. :-\

Halo is aight, but you aren't missing too much really. Its fun, but feels like Ubisoft made it, if ya dig.

In the old days I'd have finished Halo: Infinite in two days.

Maybe I missed it somehow, but I 💯 swear it wasn't on page 1 when I looked for it. 🤷

Missed it. I'd say 4/5. Somewhat buggy and it broke my RB button on my xbox when I first played it.

I'm about 90% sure I'm going to buy the compilation I found. Maybe once I'm in the retirement home I'll be able to pop it in and give it a whirl.
