View Full Version : Scott Hall has passed away at age 63

Scott Hall is on life support after suffering several heart attacks last night, per a new report. Wade Keller of PW Torch reports that the WWE Hall of Famer had three heart attacks last night at a hospital in Marietta, Georgia and is now on life support.
Hall had hip replacement surgery last week, but according to the new report he had a serious complication caused by a blood clot getting loose. Hall is a two-time member of the Hall of Famer, both as a solo inductee through his WWE character Razor Ramon and as part of the now.
Edit: Scott has sadly passed away

As sad as all this is, there's something to be said for the last ten years or so - a decade ago, "Scott Hall on life support" is the kind of headline you wouldn't have been surprised to see every time you went online.
That he was able to get relatively healthy, reconnect with friends in the wrestling business, and have the third act of a Hall of Fame induction and regular appearances as a respected "legend", and to be around to hear all the plaudits and praise that came with that, always felt like a blessing.

Damn this sucks. Such a great talent. The wrestling boom of the late 90s probably doesn’t happen without him.
One positive takeaway from this though is when he does pass, he’s already shown us he’s going to make a really great ghost.

I remember watching that video in 2012 where DDP and Jake called him, and Scott said that he had a bottle of vodka for breakfast that morning. I'm happy that he was able to stay sober for the last few years and able to even train and tour with his son. Scott was someone that was on verge of a tragedy with a really depressing ending and he was able to get an extended happy epilogue by going into the HOF, making seldom TV appearances, and get on the meet & greet convention circuit. This is still tough though.

nWo Scott Hall (especially 1996 and 1997) was immense because he got to 100% embrace counterculture. But he also did the work and the market research to find out what actually was "cool." Which TBH isn't that easy. Think about trying to lean into hip hop culture and appeal to teenagers and early twenty-somethings like the nWo did when you're pushing 40.

Also though to me he is the premier Intercontinental Champion and the most legit contender for best character in WWE history that never won "the big one". You could have easily gotten Razor hot enough in 94-96 for a World Championship run. Especially with Shawn as champ if Razor had stayed.

Was not a fan of Scott Hall as an in-ring performer- to me he was a good upper mid career or solid IC champion.. Behind the scenes he was malcontent as noted by a lot of people in the business. I believe this was due to his depression and his demons.
His contribution to the wrestling business could have been much more than a story of a broken man who’s inner bitterness ultimately consumed him. Many tried to help him, he tried to help himself but Scott Hall just couldn’t overcome the deep psychological damage that led him to substance abuse, and ultimately the ill health that took his life.

That's a tough one. If you were a WCW fan then you might consider the AWA legends to be "legit" World Champions. I think they are, they were on ESPN and long before that they were a big act in their territories and a successful business for a long time.
I think for someone who didn't watch AWA at all then it's pretty insignificant. Curt is pegged at the IC level in the eyes of history. While I think he'd have been deserving of a PPV against Hogan, Savage, Hart and Warrior all as a challenger. I think it would have been a fun gimmick that that is the one thing he never can accomplish. The give him that drive as a character to always keep going. Meanwhile he could've been more involved in the IC scene and developed those guys a bit.
Just playing EWR mentally here.

I always thought that Hall was just a step away from that main event perception. He did get a WWF Championship match against Bret at the Rumble but it didn't close the show and wasn't really ever referenced again as he went for the IC belt as a character pretty much the rest of his run.
He just had "it". Super cool, if he'd have stayed sober and driven then wow what a career he could've had. By the time he'd become WCW Champion he was already changing physically due to his addictions, but it seems as if there could be a chance for a reprieve. I remember it fondly to be honest.
I also remember thinking his TNA debut and being 'the main guy' there actually worked. But it wasn't long before he went to WWF and blew his return there.
I really love his Razor theme and toothpick gimmick, the hair, the look, great punches, clothesline, fallaway slam and the Razors Edge as mentioned earlier easily the best move of his era. Fucking loved Razor man, and Scott Hall was fucking lit in WCW (literally) and I loved that too.
Scott Hall was just TOO SWEEEEEEEET

I've seen quite a bit of AWA. The World Title drops in my eyes after Stan Hansen loses it in 86

I know indy titles don't count, but would you count the AWA title as a world title back in the day? If not, then Mr. Perfect would be another good contender.
Its true, besides WWF and WCW, it was NWA and AWA. For that era, I would count AWA as a World Championship that would take Curt Hennig and Jerry Lawler out of that was never a world champ conversation.

He held the NWA National Heavyweight Championship which was the main title in Georgia but never held one of the big three.
Orndorff was over like rover in that Hogan feud in 86

Let me ask a question:
As he died of a blood clot directly related to surgery is there a legal case for the family here?
Aren't you made to sign a waiver before surgery so if you die during it the hospital and surgeons aren't responsible?

Yeah.
Had a family member pass from a clot after a routine surgery in 1999. She got up to go to the restroom, took three steps and that was it.

I've been watching all kinds of different Scott Hall matches, promos, and interviews on YouTube the last few days and wow. It's great how it just takes me right down memory lane and makes me go back in time. Very entertaining!

It's also the first time I've watched some of these shoot interviews he did and you can tell he's one of those wrestlers who just had a great personality irl. What I mean by that is if you watch different wrestlers on shoot interviews, you get a sense of who knows how to entertain and give people what they wanna see and I'm sure that reflects to a lot of their mic work while they are in character as well but my point being is I could listen to someone like Scott Hall all day without getting bored as opposed to some who are just kind of bland and dry when they do these shoots.

Gotta be honest, after WCW, I saw hall as more of a tag guy than a sigles competitor.

Hall definitely was firmly second fiddle to Nash and Hogan in the latter days of the NWO but once Russo took the hotshotting into overdrive, it is a little crazy to think he never got like… a 3 day run as champion.

Piper has such a short window of absolute greatness. He's pretty much done by 87 besides that Bret Hart match. But My God, Piper between 82-86 is soooooooo great. I wish there were more Piper footage from California in the late 70s. I've heard he was incredible there as well.

Regal’s evil GM run in 2008 was the only time I felt he could’ve been a World champ. Regal himself has refuted that the angle was going to result in him getting a title reign but it was set up pretty much perfectly for it to happen. Unfortunate timing with the Wellness suspension.

Lol in my endless search for late 60’s/early 70’s Big Time Wrestling footage, I found some Piper stuff from the late 70s.
I even loved 90s face Piper though. The guy was just so easy to root for.

Favorite Piper was from WM VI (I think?) where he fought Bad News Brown and painted himself half black (actual black). He had those wheezing promos, but he was so intense with them. Distinctly remember this as a kid.

Lol The man was fucking nuts. Loved it.
Hall could have been one of the most influential creative minds in the business if he’d kept himself on the straight and narrow. Albeit what he was doing wasn’t done in isolation (his look has heavily influenced by DDP, for example) he had his finger on the pulse and was able to draw from happenings outside of the business. Razor being influenced by Scarface, Crow Sting was apparently Hall’s idea, a lot of the rap influence for the nWo/Wolfpac came from him, etc. He seemed like he had an ability to add a flourish to a match or act.

I had a false memory in my mind that Hall had a short run around Superbrawl 2000 but no he didn't. Just looking at his Wiki and wow, nobody ever had him as the heavyweight champ. Pretty crazy to me.
Crazy multiverse idea here.... What if there is a world where Nash leave WWF in 96 and takes Kid with him, but also Triple H irate over his treatment due to the Curtain Call (which still happens as a send off to Nash) quits WWF (somehow) and ends up joining Nash and Kid in WCW as the original NWO.

Yeah Regal as World Champ doesn't do it for me either.
As the years have gone on, I have come to appreciate William Regal more and more. But a World Championship never would have been "appropriate" in my eyes. Just was never "the guy", in any of his runs with a company.

There is definitely a world where after Regal won KOTR he went on a crazy power tear and manipulated himself to become Champion if only for a short time. That night he won KOTR set the internet on fire.

Yeah it was that “moment in time”; it would have been a case of the right guy, in the right place, at the right time. Beyond that exact time - where there were 2 World Championships - there’s not a time for him.

Not surprising. A lot of people saw the pandemic as an end of the world type deal which would lead to drinking or addiction. I won't speculate on his thought process but he probably become isolated from people too.

All you had to do was listen to Scott talk and it was obvious he was always going to battle with relapsing. The fact that he managed to get another 10 years and a couple of HoF inductions while getting control of his narrative (lollll) was a positive and affirming in an of itself. Even outside the drug usage, we were dealing with a deeply flawed individual. But that’s the nature of wrestling. It attracts rough customers but we love them anyways.

Anyone else remember that the first segment on the debut episode of Monday Night Raw (excluding the little intro thing they did heading into the actual show) was Razor Ramon being interviewed by Vinne Mac?
