<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Legendary wrestler Ric Flair to step in the ring one final time in July, according to sources <a href="https://t.co/JGTLXkrGKE">https://t.co/JGTLXkrGKE</a></p>&mdash; Marc Raimondi (@marcraimondi) <a href="https://twitter.com/marcraimondi/status/1526203807993974784?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 16, 2022</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Ric Flair, one of the most well-known and revered professional wrestlers in history, will perform in one last match July 31, sources told ESPN on Monday. Flair, 73, will step into the ring at the Nashville Fairgrounds on an independent card that will stream live on FITE TV.

"I'm going to walk that aisle one last time to prove once and for all that to be the Man, you've got to beat the Man," Flair said in a statement to ESPN.

Flair had major health issues in the summer of 2017, needing bowel surgery, which led to kidney failure and dialysis treatment. He was hospitalized for more than a month but has been in solid health since the scare.

This is a tremendously bad idea.

They should have a female flight attendant run in and knock him down with a hostess trolley for the finish.

I'm sure he's very aware of his limitations and whatnot. This isn't about the match itself, it's about the ending of an amazing in ring career of one of the most colossal legends in the wrestling business. It’s a shame Lethal signed with AEW, for anything other than his bank account, because I doubt Tony Khan lets an AEW wrestler do it.

Honestly, I think the best bet is going to come down between Ricky Morton and Matt Cardona, the latter could be an NWA Title match. Wouldn’t put it past Corgan to switch the belt then do a tourney for a new champ on iPPV or something.

so hogan it is

If this happens what a shame. Taking away from Flair's moment with Hogan involved. I hope it was obvious that I was reaching for a really BAD choice when I suggested Hogan for this spot .

Okay gotta state my opinion on this altogether. I actually despise Chris Cruise for his overprotective and kind of creepy obsession with regulating pro wrestling like it's MMA or something. IF Flair is to wrestle, or Hogan or both, they aren't going to be doing crazy shit! They are gonna fake punch each other and fake rake each others eyes and backs for 8 minutes. Sure the will gig and bleed so what? Do you really think Hogan is going to take a bump? LOL If he did it's going to be protected.

I'm just saying that the likelihood of someone dying is probably really small its just a fucking show.

Secondly, Hogan shouldn't be involved he's not a very important piece in the memory of Ric Flair. And it's not a capstone to his career to do another job for Hogan.

Flair & Andrade vs FTR would probably be really good.

Yeah that's kind of what I was saying. It's not really about the match itself I mean it's obviously not going to be a technical masterpiece or probably even a good match. It's more about Ric Flair but if Hogan was to be involved that would take a lot away from flare because Hogan hasn't wrestled since when like 2011 or something

Crippla
05-24-2022, 12:17 PM

It’s actually a potentially good leaping off point for a promotion or whatever. I can understand why an AEW or WWE would stay completely clear from it. I’m not sure how interested he would be, but I was thinking earlier that Nick Aldis is probably the ideal opponent for Flair.

Jordan
06-22-2022, 08:58 AM
Nick Aldis would have been an option for The Fairgrounds but for them now to move to The Municipal Auditorium I'm expecting something bigger. It's hard to say what exactly, especially if they stick with the 6-Man Tag. I have no idea who fits with the Rock 'n Roll Express to make this make sense.

Mr. Nerfect
06-27-2022, 05:36 PM
James Storm is another name that comes to mind.

I think you want someone with a big enough name but also be able to heel it up on Flair as a style, but sell for him and not look ridiculous either. Those would be my two leading names, unless there is someone really obvious I am forgetting.

Mr. Nerfect
06-27-2022, 05:36 PM

It would be cool if MJF "quits" AEW and ends up taking this match with Flair. IDK how you lead back to AEW with that but it would be a great way to get me to buy that PPV.

Jordan
06-27-2022, 05:46 PM
I looked through a long list of unsigned talent and there isn't anyone connected to Flair that would really make sense. AJ Styles would've made sense, Kurt Angle... but Angle just had knee surgery and WWE likely won't let AJ do a PPV for FITE.

Now that the show is moved to a proper arena I think the match has to be huge. I think Steamboat would be a great choice but I don't think he's on board. MJF would be another great choice because he would bring more interest than anyone else.

Mr. Nerfect
06-27-2022, 06:49 PM
MJF would be…dynamic. I don’t think TK is going to let a contracted AEW guy do it though. Lol if that’s MJF’s ticket to Pillman out though.

MCMG vs The Wolves should be a killer match.

Jordan
07-07-2022, 11:44 AM
This show is really looking good, easy buy for me even without the main event announced. Briscoes vs Von Erich's could be awesome, MCMG vs Wovles, Alexandere/Fatu and the AAA 4 way all could be great.

Interesting that WWE included Ric Flair back in their intro lately. He also posted on Twitter how much that meant to him. I am thinking that we will get a WWE star to wrestle Flair in his final match. We've seen WWE loan out talents before and I think this is the type of situation they would possibly lend a hand.

Who are the options?

I keep thinking AJ Styles because I know that Flair would love to wrestle him, and of course he can carry a lot of the match.

If I am totally off base and it's actually AEW that lends a hand, it really needs to be MJF. That would just be pure insanity. They could even promote it that MJF really left AEW and is out working with Flair. I don't know how you make money on it but it seems like something could happen there.

They were talking about a 6-Man with FTR and Rock and Roll Express but I do feel like this event has exceeded that kind of a match. Can the Express really pull that off? I don't think so. Plus there is no natural partner for them to work with that makes sense.

If it's not a loan out talent for the match then we are talking free agents. Who would Flair want? I can't really see him giving a shit for Gresham and we've heard that there was a blow up with Jay Lethal when he didn't make the match.

Flair did recently work for NWA but come on, really? None of those guys really deserve this match. Not even Nick Aldis really would fit the bill. Maybe, sure at the Fairgrounds that match makes "some" sense, but it's not a draw for me, and likely not for many. You'd want his last match against someone that everyone would know.

I wonder if they even have someone booked yet.

EDIT: There’s nothing on his Wikipedia page. Might be a stand up guy. Does he just suck or has MLW just somehow really lucked into him?

He’s not as big as Omos or Babatunde, but I’d say he’s got a better overall look. I guess he’s a tag champ over there, so they feel like there’s something they can get out of him. Maybe he signed really quickly after being let go before WWE could snatch him up, with the idea that he’ll have a body of work behind him in a few years or so.

I hate the idea or Lawler vs Flair in a match. I don't want to watch someone die in the ring and I feel like that is just asking for it.

So it's someone from WWE...what if it's Jeff Jarrett? Kind of a stretch but he's been getting involved recently and he does have history with Flair.

Well it's prob gonna be like that regardless lol I'm not expecting a decent match either and I don't think it will be Lawler but who knows

#1-norm-fan

I would think it would have to be someone who isn’t being featured on-screen and is probably just on a legends contract. I can’t imagine WWE wants anyone closely associated with them currently to be involved with anything Flair is doing.

Jordan
07-18-2022, 11:12 AM
I'd be fine with Lawler but it would make a lot more sense if the match were in Memphis, it's in Nashville. Jarrett has a lot more of a heritage in Nashville, has been active lately, and could work the match with Flair, and also works with Conrad.

Jarrett would be ideal I think.

Jordan

I still think there is a chance WWE loans out AJ Styles. But I'll go with Jarrett.

Funny enough, pictures of those four training in the ring together were put out a few weeks ago by a Tennessee-based indy fed (FXE Wrestling) Jarrett's done business with before. But I can't find those pictures now.

Everybody just sorta figured it made sense for those to be guys Flair was training with, but it's clear now the pics were removed because they were, presumably, rehearsing the actual match.

Which, I mean, with a 73-year old Flair you kinda have to script everything out.

I am down with that match. Glad that Andrade gets the rub teaming with his daddy in law, and Double J get's to bring in the house because he's Nashville's biggest star. Jay Lethal is black.

#1-norm-fan

Weird that they didn’t just do Flair vs Lethal.

Also weird that WWE allowed this since they’re literally working their way through a sex scandal and now a guy who is gonna be featured prominently on a major WWE event is gonna be in a high profile match with Ric Flair.

I’m not saying it’s wrong but it’s definitely gonna make some negative noise PR-wise. You’d think such a PR-aware company would be like “FUCK NO!”

Almost looks like hogan from behind these days. :shifty:

Watched the main event... was almost painful to watch...

Just how out of it Flair was, especially by the end.... could see it that he was just "gone". *wrestling nerd activate* and technically the match should have been a draw because Flair just collapsed after putting on the figure four and had his own shoulders down on the mat, so it should have been a double pin.

Jarrett looked surprisingly great, though. In shape, limber, quick on his feet

Wonder if Hogan tries to do this now, and if there is enough love for Hogan left to carry him to a "moment" like this

First of all, Ric Flair is all heart. Say all you will about needing money and blah, blah, blah. You must truly love the business to be 73 years old and want to still take bumps and wrestle, even if it potentially kills you.

Second, congratulations to Jay Lethal, Jeff Jarrett, Karen Jarrett and Andrade.

Last of all, that was scary. Especially by the end.

Ric Flair left it all in the ring; and it took everything by the looks of it. I know, he is not the Ric Flair of 2008 or 2011 or even the 2013 fight in a non-match in-ring segment and people can say tarnished legacies but this was about a man who wanted one more go after giving the fans everything, for decades. We can give him this one go, no matter what.

Well that match was the closest there's ever been to the movie The Wrestler coming to life.

Jay Lethal taking Flair off the turnbuckle and giving him a regular suplex instead was one of the smartest decisions I've ever seen in a wrestling match.

A Superplex legitimately might've killed him.

I still don’t think “The Ram” died at the end of the movie.

Was going to come in here and ask if this is worth a watch, but the sad thing is…I don’t care. :(

I’m very happy this event just happening and now it being in the past.

Surreal seeing pics of Taker front row at a wrestling event.

I’m hearing Jeff Jarrett was the star of the show.

Just seen flairs entrance, like how it took him about a minute to undo the robes tie to show the big gold belt, wtf was going on there?

Its worth taking a peak just for that. It's a shame his ring return was wasted on that

I’ve seen clips and man Flair looked out of it. Clip of him hitting the ropes before the match started looked whatever but after that he looked every bit a near 80 year old man.

I like that Jarrett has found a way to find that acceptance he has been chasing almost his entire career. Feels like more people appreciate Double J than ever before.
