just makes me wonder when wwe will be sold, i say when the smackdown fox contract is up.
This does feel like a demotion possibly....otherwise I feel like she wouldn't need to announce it publicly...I mean it has been reported that most of the corporate people who've been let go the last few rounds of layoffs were mostly HHH and Steph people...

Good.
Given that Stephanie married the one who took the most advantage of Owen Hart's fatal accident on May 23, 1999(this coming Monday being the 23rd year without Owen among the living, for those keeping track, by the way), she, by default, has a little bit of Owen's blood staining her hands too.
For me to respect her as a person, she needs to divorce Paul, and never communicate with him again. Those are the terms.
Until then, God damn her ass. Just disposable ReTrumpliKKKunt garbage anyway.

I wonder what would happen if Stephanie and Paul (and hell, maybe Shane) actually did decide to start a promotion for themselves.
I don’t THINK it will happen, lol. I’m not saying that. But imagine that crazy reality. It would probably have the infrastructure of NXT. I can imagine guys like Regal, Joe and The Armstrongs being given jobs. But would they go full NXT? That wouldn’t work outside the context of being WWE’s craft beer. You’d think they’d try to pluck major stars and might have an in to disgruntled WWE talent that have nowhere else to go. Mercedes Banks would probably end up there lol.

Not my favorite. Underrated though. There’s a whole generation of OVW guys that got washed away by the WWE in the early/mid-2000’s. If you have time, go back and watch some of Basham’s OVW work. I highly recommend a 2/3 Falls Match he had with Nick Dinsmore.

I saw a match from him from like 1997 or something. Maybe. That seems about right. He’s Danny Davis’ real nephew, so he trained him up before OVW was like a proper thing. By the time they really got started as a developmental territory in 1999/2000, he was kind of there to help the younger guys out and be a player for their TV because he wasn’t a complete rookie.
He could have been a pretty great heel for their mid-card in 2001/2002. Bring him in with Victoria and have him cause shit for Ric Flair because he’s got a privileged deal because of his “connections” or whatever. Flair brings in Damaja to kick his ass because he knows him so well. Would have been totally fine television.
Then he should have kayfabe started banging Stephanie McMahon and replaced Triple H as the top heel and been World Heavyweight Champion. WOOOO!

The affair was with Macho Man Randy Savage who it turns out never actually passed away. Not only did Randy steal HHHs girl, he took his job too and is now running NXT, which is why they went from black and gold to all the wild colors. Randy reveals he has been planning this ever since HHH tried to invade WCW with his DX cronies. This whole thing is actually what caused his cardiac event.

Yes but I feel like Vince these days who has mellowed out and seems more hesitant to do anything offensive with the things are now is a little bit different from the Vince of 15 years ago. I don't think he would have any problem doing an angle like that but I don't think he would do it if it really happened with Steph irl just for the fact that it would bring public humiliation and criticism to his publicly traded company. After working for WWE for 20+ years, Vince booted her for only making $20 million in a quarter instead of $25 million? Vince is fucking ruthless!
I actually had a convo with Seph that revolved around this--I'm pretty sure at this cutthroat level of corporate, it sometimes doesn't matter if you're good (or even excellent) at your job. Even in Steph's position. There's now a new directive and shareholders/board members who want things to be a certain way.
And honestly, from my limited perspective, it seems like they're trying to find every which way to increase profitability so they can sell at a premium. Doing so might be beyond Steph's capabilities, despite her being really great at what she does.
Plus, maybe saying "hundreds of millions" (if those reports are true) was political suicide as far as Steph holding onto her role goes. She over-promised and under-delivered, even if it was an ambitious goal.
We also don't know if that Vince story is true--but since it's BI reporting it instead of Uncle Dave, it raises some questions. That said, she'll be fine and likely remain comfortable in another prominent role (at least optically).
Ol Dirty Dastard
06-07-2022, 11:39 AM
Another way to look at it is Steph has carried the ball to where they are, but it's as far as she can take it. Now it's time for an outsider, with broader corporate experience, to take profits and revenues completely over the top.

id also like to say brand deals on gear and the like is a horrible idea in wrestling. youll make the roster bleed together in an age where standing out is far too difficult. you also have the issue of heels wearing brands and how their actions then reflect on the brand itself further diluting the products ability to be organic. there branding should be more like how theyve done it in puro. ads on the mat. on the buckle pads. hell guard rails. whatever. not the gear though.

Ring/ringside sponsorship was where my head went. Putting it on talent’s gear could open up a big can of worms; it’s on my gear, what do I get? If sponsors don’t want their shit on heels, does that create a reluctance to turn?

I agree, it's also a huge risk on potentially losing sponsors and lots of money. For example, imagine JBL was wearing Nikes during that incident in Germany that caused so much controversy. It would instinctively force Nike to pull their sponsorship and others might follow suit and do the same thing because they don't want their brand associated with that

I long for the days where heels could be total racist, sexist, homophobic pieces of shit and people understood that they’re the bad guys and therefore SUPPOSED to be pieces of shit as opposed to being offended and calling for the show to be canceled simply because “words were said by a person”.
Granted, those racist, sexist, homophobic pieces of shit were faces much of the time in their day depending on the area, but still. Assholes aren’t allowed to actually be assholes even if the idea is to make you wanna see them get their ass kicked. Context is dead.
