Alright we all know about the media scrum and the fight afterwards.

This talk about AEW buying out his contract makes no business sense.

CM is / was their biggest draw. His return (and a heel turn) would be garner considerable interest - this would only help AEW in the ratings.

Why would AEW want to pay him to leave ? Him leaving has no up side for AEW whatsoever. The best thing AEW could do now is follow Vince's maxim of "getting the match in the ring". Have Punk come back - bury the hatchet and make peace backstage.

This could then lead to a money feud with Punk teaming up with someone like Jericho and fight the Elite.

It's a win for AEW because he doesn't fit in the sandbox.

I don’t know why CM Punk would want to go back. Why go back to a place where you can’t trust the people you’re working with? It’s been made clear time and time again that AEW does not want to put on a better product for wrestling fans. It’s a vanity project and playground for the sports entertainers who invite the boss to their birthdays and weddings. It’s Hulk Hogan’s WCW without the muscles, popularity or profit.

I agree the buyout doesn’t make much sense. If you don’t want him to wrestle for other companies, why not keep him under contract and not use him? Unless his deal forces them to use him. They obviously can’t terminate him, otherwise they would do that if they wanted him gone. He probably has clauses in his contract that protects him from getting fucked around by incompetence, which Tony didn’t think would come up, because he’s incompetent.

It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re trying to get him to sign an NDA on top of everything. They probably don’t want him out there telling the truth about the whole thing. Getting rid of him or just letting his contract expire may not guarantee his silence. You’d imagine if they just wanted him gone, they’d be some provisions for how much is left on his contract plus the inconvenience, merchandising and damage control on top of that. It shouldn’t be too hard to figure out.
