There's a film genre term that escapes me at the moment that describes a hyper reality kind of absurdity within the setting that I think this is going for. Like Truman Show, LEGO Movie, and The Matrix there's probably some underlying truth to the setting from which the main Barbie will escape emotionally or literally. In that case it would be wise to market the movie as little more than a wacky comedy adaptation, so the real stuff doesn't get spoiled. Two moments hint at this secret plot, imo.

But that's as much thought as I got for this, not really rushing to theaters for a Barbie movie.
