View Full Version : Tony Khan terminates CM Punk's AEW contract
I’m pretty sure he’ll be able to get a job basically anywhere he wants. If he doesn’t end up back in WWE, I think it’ll be because he’s either done with wrestling or wants to pick his spots elsewhere.
It's safe to suggest that nobody at WWE HQ is salivating to have Punk back
I think it's time for Punk to give MMA another shot. Maybe work his way up to the UFC this time around.
A PPV boxing match with Jake Paul sounds lovely.

I don’t want to watch the TK “promo”, because I feel like it’s going to be really awkward as make me uncomfortable.
I’m also like “man can’t AEW just get their shit together, and turn this into a positive. Pro wrestling is built on stuff like this.”
Then Destor makes this post
As an employer if everytime you schedule a guy to work a fight breaks out you fire him. It not rocket science.
Yeah that’s a good point. I got no comeback for that one.

Hmm... not exactly.
Had an issue at work a little bit ago where a group of staff members were deliberating excluding/bullying one of their peers. Eventually this lead to a rather heated confrontation on the floor with the staff member who had been allegedly bullied flipping out and causing a commotion on the floor.
The investigation showed that the group would often make fun of the staff member's weight, would move/hide their belongings, had a chat on work computers that said obscene things about him and deliberately made his life difficult. Ultimately, two were terminated and the others received final warnings.

Nah, this one was more in response to the statement that someone who goes to work and is involved in fights every time should be fired. Sometimes things arent as they appear.

I could honestly see Tiny on the PPV at some point being attacked by Punk from the crowd. It can be their version of Austin/McMahon that Tiny will claim is the biggest storyline in wrestling history and put himself over as having been willing to do so for the fans sake.

You can’t go to work and attack your coworkers or boss and expect to remain employed, anecdotal evidence and experiences aside.
I love Punk as a wrestler. I love his promos, I love his approach to storytelling, I enjoy his in ring work for the most part. But he’s obvs a cancer at this point. Jack Perry is a nobody and letting a nobody get under your skin like that is unacceptable. He could’ve just gone to Tony privately and told him he’s pissed and something needs to be done, Perry gets suspended or whatever and we move on to bring Ricky Starks a big ppv match to pay off a long build.
Instead, Punk is a whiny man baby who can’t control himself, attacks Perry, puts non wrestling employees at risk, allegedly threatened to quit and lunges at his boss, and now gets what he had coming to him.
Yes, Khan should’ve nipped this type of behavior in the bud after the brawl out incident. But he didn’t. He tried to let it pass and keep both parties happy and separate. One of those parties just keeps finding trouble. And as much as I don’t really care for the Bucks in any way, they’re proving they’re smarter than Punk by staying outta trouble and just doing their jobs instead of letting petty little comments from mid card acts set them off.
It was fun while it lasted. Can’t see Punk getting the kind of chance Tony gave him ever again. This was his shot to be everything he claimed he was and wanted to be. And he’s flushed that down the shitter.

Look at the stir this story causes. Just a few days ago, Bryan Alvarez had to walk back his story about Punk and Miro getting into it. Now Meltzer, who is very much in one camp, is trying to rewrite the story to make Punk even worse. That’s the same week as using Bray Wyatt’s death to try and put AEW in a good light.
You’re nuts if you believe Dave Meltzer is doing unbiased journalism. Especially when his stance is “I was being too nice before and sitting on information that could destroy my friends’ enemy.”
Punk may or may not have lashed out. I still don’t believe the incident, as now being reported, makes sense. There are too many bullshit markers. I’m a believer in Occam’s razor. Punk having enough and lashing out could be the simplest explanation. I think Punk threatening to quit and AEW/the dirt sheets blowing up the incident is pretty damn likely too.
I’m looking forward to Punk’s response. I’m sure it will throw everything into chaos again. He sits on a lot. The stuff with Moxley last time was just insane.

What I read is that Punk said he didn’t like or trust Regal. Not that he didn’t respect him. If it’s true at all. Punk told Regal to his face in that story. Didn’t do anything on-air to sabotage Regal.
People bringing it up now like Regal didn’t bail on AEW because it was a nightmare filled with disrespect 2 months after CM Punk was suspended.
Also, lol at the idea of it being egregious Punk doesn’t respect Regal, but there’s a clique in AEW who get off on disrespecting Punk and other vets. Come on.

Oh all the negative shit about Punk is going to come out for sure now. Who is leaking it...if I had to take an educated guess, it doesn't come from the Elite but people they know and trust to leak the information. A friend of a friend of a cousin of the Young Bucks type shit.
Punk is going to be made to look like shit during this and shocker...HE DESERVES IT. This wasn't just about coming in and doing what he did. This wasn't just about helping to write Collision and making it to be a show on the level of Dynamite. This could have been the ultimate FUCK YOU middle finger to the WWE for letting him go all those years ago. And instead of giving them the middle finger, he basically gave a middle finger to the fans that have supported him over the years.
It's a sad story and I would not not be surprised if this would be an episode of Dark Side of the Ring in 3-5 years. I believe they said they were not making anymore episodes of that (someone correct me) but this story is too good not to do some form of a documentary on it over the past 365 days.

They’re different people. It’s similar work but it doesn’t mean they went about it the same way. Punk has had friends and peers that went through developmental/dealt with them. He could be taking up for a buddy.
We also don’t know for sure Punk and Joe are still friends, or whether Punk just has professional respect for the guy.

All anyone has to do is look back at around the time after the media scrum venting where that one article came out where just about any of the folks that went on the record with "I was wary about CM Punk because I had heard about his reputation... but then I actually talked to the guy and it wasn't as bad as all that, and he even gave me some sound career advice" or some complimentary variations thereof all ended up getting fucked with in some kind of way. Or the more recent thing where Okada said something to the effect of "I'd tell you about what I think about the guy, but The Bucks are my friends." Why should it matter if you want to say something nice about someone if that would make people who are supposedly your friends act different towards you?
Mr. Nerfect
09-05-2023, 02:03 AM
At the center of this is a difference in wrestling philosophy. The Elite resent this camp of guys like Jim Cornette, who think there is a craft to this. The Elite think it’s completely subjective and everything is awesome. If you don’t think Punk coming in and actually helping people get better ruffled them, then you have never even heard of The Elite.

Tend to agree with this. There's probably people within AEW who were just sitting on stories but worried about going public with criticizing Punk. In general though yeah people should just come out with stuff.
Dirt sheets get exhausting as hell and I've tried to not follow as much of it but it's also unavoidable if you spend more than 5 seconds on wrassling twitter. If someone has "damning" info they aren't willing to share it kinda makes them all look dumb, and that goes for anyone on either "side". I suspect a lot of these Punk stories will be minor or tiny non-incidents blown up to make headlines.
The Regal stuff does feel slightly revealing only in the sense that it feels like pretty much everything else he does, his respect for veterans is conditional.
It's like so many of his gestures of generosity and friendship, they're all extremely transactional, and feel as much about making someone feel they now owe him loyalty. Samoa Joe's cryptic Tweet the other day kinda alludes to that too.
Bret Hart, Harley Race, and Roddy Piper are the vets Punk often talks up the most in terms of guys he respects and admires. Wonder how much he'd talk them up if they hadn't told him they liked him.

In fairness, business relationships by nature are transactional.

While true some people treat most of, if not all of their interpersonal relationships as transactional. I halfway joked about how Ace Steel will end up on Punk's shitlist if he doesn't quit AEW in solidarity but there's numerous accounts of guys in WWE who were cool with Punk and friends with him and it was just radio silence from Punk after he quit. Like merely being employed in a company he was on bad terms with was enough for you to be on the shitlist.
Known "Punk guys" in AEW include FTR, House of Black, and Danhausen. Wonder if Punk is gonna actually keep talking to these dudes after everything that happened or if it'll reach the point where not quitting means they've "made their choice" when it never needed to be a choice.

Guy just seems like someone who probably has an Excel spreadsheet keeping track of every single personal favor he's ever done for anyone, so he can throw it back at you the second you "cross" him.

Punk likes to have glory he can downplay, but I don’t know why people expect him to talk people who don’t like him. Or why his like of vets should be unconditional. There are very weird expectations put on him.

Yeah, you can tell Mark Henry wants to wear his salmon suit and slam his way out of that place.
Wrestling fans are genuinely idiotic. Some girl is receiving death threats for flipping off Page :nono:

this guy makes a good point.

I’m going to say this a neutrally as possible: if you’ve been posting this entire time about Punk creating a toxic workplace and being a danger, having two EVPs and a CEO actively avoid mediating is equally if not more appalling. Someone argues that Punk's the one assaulting everyone. Yet, the Jacksons are the ones who busted into his dressing room.

In a similar vein, Vince or HHH should cut this promo if they bring in Punk and want to introduce him in the most authentic way.
There's a conspiracy online that suggests that TK and Punk are in cahoots to undermine the return of Shanky at WWE Superstar Spectacle.

Wrestling fans are genuinely idiotic. Some girl is receiving death threats for flipping off Page :nono:
https://i.redd.it/gi4s79pv3gmb1.jpg
I'm glad Page said something because that's bullshit to harass a fan who wasn't doing anything wrong.
I didn't notice her until I saw a tweet about her mid show. I don't really pay much attention to anyone beyond the barriers but the few times I noticed her she was looking down at her phone despite having the best seat in the house. Frankly that's a worse look than flipping off a wrestler ever would be.
Flipping off wrasslers should always be encouraged no matter who it's directed at. Audience participation/engagement is generally a good thing.

Remember when old ladies would get right up in wrestlers' faces and yell at them? Glorious.

this guy makes a good point.

This is what I've been saying the whole time. Punk and Perry do not avoid repercussions but TK allowed it to get to this point.

Best sign I saw was a pic of TK saying "Dave, how am I doing?"
Guy just seems like someone who probably has an Excel spreadsheet keeping track of every single personal favor he's ever done for anyone, so he can throw it back at you the second you "cross" him.
This is inherently BS. There's no way Punk knows how to do vlookups or pivot tables.

As I have said from time to time, Punk is not absolved from what he did. He deserves everything that he did. With that said, Tony Khan will sit here and act like he did everything he could, when in all reality, the only thing that he did was FINALLY make a public statement about firing him. Which he actually looked so nervous during it. It was like he Made it on the fly, but I can't imagine that being the only time they attempted to make that statement. It just felt so forced even though he was nervous.
If you needed any proof that the Elite do not need to be in power, Omega was sitting there cracking jokes while drinking a Pepsi and claiming it was like drinking lighter fluid and the Bucks came out after Collision dancing and parading around in the ring the same day Punk was fired.
Before someone comes out and tells me "Well Grayson Waller made fun of him on X"....guess what? Waller is a talent for the WWE, not EVP's like Omega and the Bucks are. What they did was immature and shows exactly why they SHOULD NOT be any position of power in that company.

The lawyers told Tony he had to do it. That's the only reason he did it at all. They're trying to avoid a lawsuit.
If the Bucks did that, I can only imagine something like that can be brought into a court case depending on what type of lawsuit were to be filed.
Who is Grayson Waller?
(Yes, I know who he is)

this guy makes a good point.
Someone argues that Punk's the one assaulting everyone. Yet, the Jacksons are the ones who busted into his dressing room.
Yeah the fact that two of the EVPs ducked a meeting with a disgruntled employee says a lot about them.
If they were just wrestlers, it would be different. They wouldn't be expected to mediate a conflict like this (even if they had a hand in causing it).
But they aren't just wrestlers. They are allegedly executives. Whether or not they're fluffed up titles, they carry weight in the realm of the company. And that Tony Khan [seemingly, anyway] didn't do more to get this resolved months ago is a bad look too.

This. x10000.
Although if Tony was the one mediating it and there wasn't an actual middle person involved, I doubt anything would have been resolved.

And as is usually the case with these things, half of the reporters are saying a Punk/Bucks mediation meeting was scheduled/cancelled, and half are saying the meeting was never scheduled at all. Following along those reporting lines it's not terribly difficult to figure out which reporters "Punk's side" and which reporters "The Elite's side" talk to.
Whether or not a meeting was planned or not barely matters because it all just goes back to he said/he said yet again and allows people to perceive and believe whoever they want to.

You def have grounds to fire the bucks from last year or whatever but no one was fired from that excursion so it seems pretty moot. As long as its evenly applied its just.
In a leagal case though these cannot be conflated. They are wholly separate. It may paint why punk was in his unhinged state but the jungle boy/kahn incident is not the same as the ace steel/bucks incident. I dont even think JB was present for the initial conflict.
If lawyers are getting involved, and if punk is to be denied his full payout we can be certain they will be, these things have nothing to do with one another.
Ftr you can shit can them all for all i care. Its kahns promotion. Evp is a token title.

Whether a conflict resolution meeting with Punk/EVPs was scheduled or not, there are obviously some in the locker room who have a perception that there was and that management ducked it. Doesn't matter if it's true or not, if that's the perception people in the locker room have it's still gonna cause problems.
Nobody likes meetings but this is very much the type of situation where an all-hands meeting on Wednesday before the show would make a lot of sense. And preferably a meeting in which Kenny Omega isn't joking about firing half of the locker room.
I'm sure the terms of Punk's firing can't be disclosed to the masses but this really is just something where management should go up there and field and questions/concerns from the rest of the locker room and everyone can just sort their shit and air out whatever grievances remain and just get on the same page once and for all. The only way to not have the perception carrying on that management can't/won't even attempt to resolve conflict is to nip it in the bud and finally address it with everyone head-on.
Close the meeting out with Danielson and/or Moxley doing the type of rah rah speech you know they'd be good at and hopefully everyone can move on.
Of course in the world we live in now you know whatever is said in the meeting (good or bad) would be leaked in about 5 minutes anyway and people will either say "good, let's move on" or "wow, management is talking a load of bullshit" depending on what side of the fence they're on. This dirt sheet bullshit is so exhausting from all angles and I can understand why people would actively try to avoid it.
According to PWInsider, interest within WWE over the idea of bringing back CM Punk to the company is very mixed.
At least one top star is in favor of bringing Punk back mostly due to the view that Punk's return could make the company a lot of money while others are completely against the idea nor believe it will actually happen.
In regards to when a potential return could happen, Mike Johnson reported that WWE is more preoccupied over finalizing their deal with Endeavor than being interested in potentially bringing Punk back any time soon. Johnson reported that this decision would also be out of WWE's hands once Endeavor becomes the new owner and its not known how Endeavor currently feels.
In regards to other promotions, Impact reportedly is currently interested but its not believed that they could even afford him as is while NJPW isn't believed to be interested due to their current working relationship with AEW.
In regards to the terms of Punk's termination from AEW, Johnson reported that it is currently believed that he is not under any non-compete clause and could show up for any other promotion at any time.
Can't wait for Punk to get into a brawl with Rollins.

I suspect a lot of these Punk stories will be minor or tiny non-incidents blown up to make headlines.
That's mostly been the case already. But it is pretty funny how this went from a simple front facelock to him being a raging lunatic who nearly murdered the 18 people just standing around before turning the fireaxe he was brandishing at Tony Khan. Even playing The Telephone Game, that's some pretty bad fucking storytelling. Outside of the sheer "newz" magnet any mention of Punk always is, you'd think that would have been the instant story if most of it were true and he'd have been fired immediately on the spot instead of having an investigation that the person who called for the investigation was supposedly a firsthand eyewitness.
Just smells like a setup. Sure, shame on him for falling for it, but at the same time the thing I said before still applies: if Punk did/said nothing, "he's a bitch", if Punk did/said *anything*, "he's a cancer". There was no winning here, and he's always been a guy who admittedly will die on his chosen hill.
Punk likes to have glory he can downplay, but I don’t know why people expect him to talk people who don’t like him. Or why his like of vets should be unconditional. There are very weird expectations put on him.
Meanwhile, remember that whole story about Omega not really being a fan of Harley Race because he basically believed he was better than he was percieved at some wrestling camp and Harley didn't think so? Pretty sure that The Elite's opinion of the legend would be different if he didn't group Kenny with the beginners and decided to blow him instead.
A lot of relationships in the business are conditional. Goes with that old adage of "You can make friends or make money". And while this type of one-sided selfishness is repeatedly brought up to be some sort of knock on Punk, it somehow never gets brought up about a particular sub-par tag team that needs to keep reminding everyone how *they* started AEW and it's *their* revolution. They, or folks associated with them, don't need to listen to or take advice. All their ideas are good ideas. A match isn't a good match unless there's at least one dive in it. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera.
They already didn't like the man from the outset because the RUMOR OF HIM sold a building they were proud of their (OG) ALL IN plaque being posted on outside. You'd think they were playing up being heels to lead to business with the smarm and passive-aggressive, snide comments, but they weren't going that deep. How dare he be a bigger star than us in our own company.

I dont see any reason WWE would want him. He already blew his big return to wrestling after 7 years away. If he was THAT miserable being able to do whatever he wanted, how long would it be when he has to do what Triple H or Bruce Prichard are telling him what to do.
With the merger though who knows. Dana White has more power than Triple H. Nick Khan is all about business and would certainly approve it he could get WWE a pepsi sponsorship match out of it, and the one thing Vince has seemed to keep his hands off is who is on the roster after he was ousted. Maybe all that would lead to WWE kicking the tires, but I still don't know why they would want to introduce him into their locker room.

I don't get this whole idea that anyone in this situation had to make nice and attend any sort of meeting. A way forward was seemingly found that kept all parties somewhat happy and from that point surely it was moot.
Since the incident at the press conference the Elite have kept quiet from what I have seen. Not a word out of Hangman or Omega (until Omegas Pepsi bit the other day) and the Bucks have been pretty low key as well. Punk meanwhile went into business for himself (off air) post show on Hangman, the very thing that apparently started this whole beef when Hangman did it.
If you trace this right back to the start it feels like a probably poor judgement call by Hangman in his promo led to a pretty unfortunate set of circumstances at the PPV post match probably exacerbated by Punk being pissed off about his injury and since then it kind of feels like Punk shadow boxing the world.
To this day I don't even think Hangmans promo was that out of line. If the answer to all of this now is "Shut up, get over it and make money" why wasn't that the answer back then when it was on Punk to be the bigger man? I remember hearing Hangmans promo and thinking it was solid work building things between the two of them.
I was watching Young Rock the other night and couldn't help but Imagine the internet explosion if Rocks refusal to work HBK came out in the full on internet era, that would have been immense.

whole thing is a fuckin mess and most of it should have been cleaned up last year
100%!
Tony Khan should have told The Elite, CM Punk, Ace Steele, Punk's Dog...
you all sit down and sort this out now and move on and make money or ABSOLUTELY NONE of you come back into the fold.
Mr. JL

Ok, this is trolling.
I actually wasn't.
How can Tony Khan be involved in the same incident as Jack Perry where everyone is in the room is in fear of their life except for the one person CM Punk is explicitly targeting? (Jack Perry) Makes no fucking sense.
And
The Elite literally ignored him for a year and let CM Punk just hang himself with the long rope that Tony Khan gave him. And CM Punk did hang himself with whoever he could find and since he couldn't find The Elite he found someone else.

(1)I don't get this whole idea that anyone in this situation had to make nice and attend any sort of meeting. A way forward was seemingly found that kept all parties somewhat happy and from that point surely it was moot.
(3)Since the incident at the press conference the Elite have kept quiet from what I have seen.
(2)To this day I don't even think Hangmans promo was that out of line.
(1) The idea is that whatever the issues were between the factions could be aired out rather than letting fester or allowing the rumor mill to run at high gear. Apparently, the only person at any point who supposedly at least tried to bridge the gap on a personal level and should be credited was Kenny.
(2) Between Hangman's promo, the idea running rampant about Punk "keeping Colt Cabana off TV" or "trying to get him fired" or both when the company was already basically barely using him as it was (hell, I personally thought they were ghosting him like Chavo Guerrero said Tony ghosted him), and anything else about snide asides and cast aspersions have been there since he showed up.
(3) You can be "low key" and still be the asshole. The BTE recorded the night CM Punk came in was full of eye rolling and jerking themselves off. At the time, you wanted to give the benefit of the doubt that it was them "working". But bookended with the "victory lap" and sprinkled with the passive-aggressive shit in between. The guy already doesn't like the idea of being disrespected, so you turn around and poke fun of him multiple times in a match - when he isn't there, mind you. Or cover him up on the truck - again, when he isn't there.
I believe there was a comment made by Hangman at one point where he basically said CM Punk "isn't the angel here"... but the problem is that does a lot of implication that the other side - his side - were the angles. And as much as I'm on Punk's side on this whole mess, there were no angles. You can't say everything is all this one guy's fault when there's way too much stacked against him to begin with. There is no reason why a bunch of guys should act pissy and jealous that one guy is a bigger star even to the niche they created for themselves. And as much as there always seems to be the burden placed on "Phil should be the bigger/better/calmer man", no such caveats or burderns seem to be placed at the feet of the self-proclaimed "new four horsemen" or anyone who is their close personal friend or even in their immediate professional orbit.

Well, first, they busted into his dressing room. Second, this is pro wrassling. It's a sports environment. Motherfuckers get slapped and knocked around behind the scenes. A lot of testosterone. A lot of butting heads. I don't necessarily condone it 100%. But this is what happens. We've heard about these fights in the WWE. Hell, Jericho was lauded for snapping on a front facelock and neutralizing Goldberg. He also almost fought Brock at Gorilla.
Let's then not ignore the fact that Bob Holly beat the shit out of people in the ring and backstage. JBL too. But we celebrate them.
I'm not about full-on bullying but I'd say Punk and Steele taking on the Bucks and Omega at once isn't really bullying. It's a brouhaha.

I just look at any sporting environment. Guys get in scraps behind the scenes.
Of course, sometimes disciplinary measures are taken. Often, they're not. In fact, if guys are on the same team, they tend to hash things out. I've been in similar situations during practice. Tempers flared, forearms were thrown. We apologized and moved on.
CM Punk is the one who celebrates guys like Holly and JBL

People don’t get how serious the bursting into a personal locker room is. People justified it because they allegedly had Megha Parehk with them. That could be interpreted as breach of contract right there, ESPECIALLY if you have legal with you.
Buck fans want to say Punk “asked for it” by saying come to his dressing room. He actually said confront him in the hallways, but comprehension ain’t their strong suit. Still, they wanted a fight with him then…got upset when they got one? Sounds like they bought into the “guy sucks at UFC, probably couldn’t whoop me” line and got clowned for it. Lots of hurt pride.
You move on from that. The more credible sources covering this stuff seems to suggest Punk has been the more mature party. He’s also not the one with the EVP title. That the digs, passive aggression, avoidance and general bullshit didn’t stop is on Tony Khan and The Elite being shitty people for their roles.

I watched Kobashi/sasaki tonight, and i'm really getting a chip on my shoulder in regards to fans that try to dictate what's a good match based on selling or no selling. Christ, I hate even typing those words, since liking or disliking a match is so subjective. However, the chop battle between the two in my mind was nothing short of awesome. Do I really have to explain two of Japanese biggest stars, one on his home turf, and one still in the midst of an amazing comeback year not wanting to back down? It's hard for me to sit here and not totally freak out and say outlandish things like, "if you've never been in a ring, you have no right to critique", but once again, as fans, most have the right to speak their minds. It is america afterall, eh?
Chops are chops. Wrestling to me is about drama and story telling. Truthfully, what I didn't like about the match was the half-nelson suplexes. I can see an arguement for that, but chops? Holy hell, listen to me. I'm in need of sleep, and can't sleep, so i'm babbling about a match that took place on forgien soil.

You mention the Kobashi/Sasaki chop war, but it was more than just chops. It was also the interaction between the chops. Another of these chop wars lack the stuff in between. It's just folks trading strikes and it's colder than the Ice King's balls. Same reason why Suzuki's strike exchanges are so good (and wasn't even the best part of what he did best.) It's the terrifying laugh, it's how measures right before he lands.

That's right, packing SUCKS. However, moving is rad. Only a couple more days here and I say goodbye to yet another house. My schedule this week is full on hilarity though, and so far it's preventing me from packing. I'm up at 8am, finish lifting by noon, and eat my last carb at noon on the dot. Late in the day I do an hour of cardio...trying to get back to how lean I was a few months ago.
To help stick to my silly diet of only 80 carbs a day, today and yesterday I went straight to the movie theatre that's next to my gym following my workout. It's too hot for anything else really, so sitting at the movies is great. I may or many not have fallen asleep. I saw a movie which I liked, and today was wedding crashers, which I recommend. Tomorrow, it's either War of the Worlds, or Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Friday is the Devils Rejects, and i'm damn excited. It'll help put off throwing my ridiculous amount of shirts into garbage bags, and trying to stuff all my dvds in my car for my trip on Sunday.
The Barbiehead suggests maybe putting shirts I don't wear on Ebay, in hopes that scary goth girls will buy them. I don't think that would would. But if you're a scary goth girl, and you're interested in maybe purchasing a Supreme Lee Great shirt i've never worn, let me know...

Though I get the idea of this aging like milk, 2016 as a whole has a different context than 2023. There are people I prob'ly supported back then that I don't now, and unfortunately this includes the Bucks.
Posting this like it means something as opposed to, say, if he posted this right before coming into AEW is akin to trying to "out" someone as an Elon fanboy for buying into his bullshit image back when the world at large also bought into his bullshit image of being this aloof visionary genius scientist as opposed to a more recent timeframe where he constantly does things himself to tank his own image and reveal himself as a perpetual grifter, but gets the luxury of remaining a shithead because of his vast wealth.

Let's look at the college football games that are this week. So ESPN has some prime time games and ABC has their main telecast for the week.
Marquee ESPN game: Texas versus Alabama. Two top 15 teams
Marquee Fox Game: Oregon versus Texas Tech.
Marquee ABC Game: Wisconsin versus Washington State.
Look at where the games are being played. The South, The Northwest, and some of the midwest. The West will still be at 5-7pm which means very few people will be home to watch TV. The East Coast will be devoted to watching football.
If Collison gets more than 400k this week, I will be STUNNED.
It's not like people are going to go crazy over the finals of their tournament being Roderick Strong versus potentially Samoa Joe or Penta. Not exactly going to be the casual fan that flocks to TNT to watch that.
And this week is considered to be a "dead" week in terms of matchups for college football. And again, while this might be beating a dead horse, even though this was considered a "soft" brand split, they do not have a World Championship for Collision. Punk's title (while basically his "own" title that he never lost) may not have been an official world title, it was still a major championship.

If the number does collapse, it’s kind of fortunate for Punk. I’d expect the number to go down anyway, losing their biggest star and the closest thing they’ve got to a good booker. But he gets to exit just as shit gets way harder anyway.

The aftermath of the backstage altercation between CM Punk and Jack Perry at All In continues, claiming another victim from the company's behind the scenes operation.
According to PWInsider, AEW producer and coach Ace Steel has once again been released in the wake of CM Punk's dismissal last weekend, receiving notice earlier today. This marks the second time Steel has been let go from AEW following an incident backstage — and involving CM Punk.
Steel was initially fired after the infamous fracas that erupted following 2022's All Out. Punk's comments during the post-show media scrum led to some sort of brouhaha with Kenny Omega and the Young Bucks. In the room with Punk where it transpired, Steel got involved, allegedly biting Omega in the midst of the skirmish.
As one of the conditions of Punk's return to AEW earlier this year, Steel was rehired, which included the compromise of Steel not being physically present backstage during shows, particularly "AEW Collision," but being allowed to produce through Zoom calls. Steel was not in London at this year's All In for the latest confrontation.
Reports indicate that there had been talks as of late about giving Steel something else to do, with AEW looking into allowing him to train talents somewhere in Florida. But in light of his exit, that is no longer the case. Steel had previously trained CM Punk, and also worked as a trainer and producer for WWE prior to ever joining AEW.

That's why it will work! Like I imagine his heel work would him being whiny, stressed and constantly complaining that it isn't fair and people should like him!
On the latest "Wrestling With Freddie" podcast, actor/former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. talked about the CM Punk firing from AEW. Prinze did not have favorable things to say about Punk and noted that his interactions with Punk in WWE were not good. Scroll down to listen to the entire podcast.
"What can I say here? Okay. I'm friends with some of the people that he's had an issue with, first and foremost, so I should get that out of the way so everyone goes, 'Oh, Prinze is biased'. Yeah, I'm biased, but I will say this. When you keep doing the same thing over and over, and you keep blaming everyone else, and it's the world's fault, right, like that Alessia Cara song, 'You don't have to change a thing, the world could change its heart.' The world ain't going to change for you or for nobody and the world don't owe you sht. It's your responsibility as a human being to find out your place in this world and make the absolute most of it, but the world doesn't owe you a damn thing, and a lot of people end up in a similar situation every single time because they keep behaving a certain way that turns people off. It's really hard to piss people off. It's really easy to make them feel good. At a certain point, I think you have to turn that finger towards yourself and say, 'Okay, what is it about me? What am I doing wrong', or you have to have someone, a therapist, a wife, a best friend, who calls you on your sht, who says, 'Yo, man. This is the third time, the third time, the third time. How many more before you figure out that this might be more of a you problem and less of a them problem?'"
"I know there's going to be a lot of our listeners who disagree with me, you know, I respect where you're coming from. I get it. You love him and a lot of the young people you might think are soft and maybe you think he's tough. I get it. I'm not trying to say you're wrong. I'm just trying to let you know where I'm coming from based off my experience with him, like, he wasn't a nice guy to me and it would have been easy to be nice to me, and instead he would just blow me off every time I walked by when I worked there, and I was never going to work with him because he didn't need my help. So I was always like, why are you going out of your way to be a d*ck to me if you and I are never going to work together? Ever, ever.
"I hate to sound cold and brutal like that, but I've talked about the Federation that I want to start here. I've spoken to professional wrestlers and said, 'Hey, man, would you be down to help me out if I'm doing this?' I'm not joking. Every single wrestler that I reached out to but one said, 'Anything you need. I would love to help you. Just don't hire Phil', and this is over 10. It's over 10, okay, and only one didn't say anything and I don't know how they feel about the guy, but everybody else was like, 'Don't hire Punk. Please don't hire Punk. Dude, I'll help you out, but if you hire Punk, I'm out.' Like, it was everybody and that has to be a mirror that causes you to go, 'Yeah, dude, it's time to change.' At least that's what I think, and again, if you disagree with me out there, I got nothing but love for you. I may not agree with your take, but I respect it. I know. Everybody loves him and he's one of the best to ever do this wrestling thing."

I believe in a lot of what FJP says. He speaks from what he knows and tends not to bullshit people.
I believe him when he says that other people would want to start something wrestling related but want to make sure that CM Punk has nothing to do with it. Phil has created this aura about him that he is cancerous and it is true now. It is disappointing because he does have a great mind for the business but at the same time, he cannot stay out of his own way.
I mentioned in the politics thread that scripted life tends to mirror real life. For Phil, that 100% stands true. He was the type of anti-authority figure who tried to bend the rules as much as possible when he was in WWE, dropping promos that blurred the lines between shoot and work. Now he's in a tough spot with AEW but more of being a backstage problem (although he doesn't have to worry about being that problem anymore).
What's lost in all this is what could have happened had Punk not torn his tricep and been out for 8-9 months. The suspension would have ended sooner so do we see Punk hurting AEW in March and April instead of during the summer or would he have worked past his differences right away. Even though Punk was rehabbing the injury, he should have had Punk and the Elite meet LAST YEAR and resolved this, instead of letting it fester for 9 months. All he did was put a band aid on an open wound that needed stitches to close the issue.
Weird how every problem in AEW comes back to the idiot owner who doesn't, you know, "be a boss".

You know what's really funny to think back about all of this is that even though the Bucks are clearly tight with Meltzer, there's a good chance that the main rumor that set Punk off (about getting Colt Cabana fired/demoted to ROH) didn't even originate with the Bucks because it really could've started with any of Colt's many longtime friends in the fed.
Unless someone very credible disputes it, I'm fine with taking TK's statements that it was his decision and his decision only at face value, but I think "arguably the most important wrestler on the roster has longstanding beef with the fifth or sixth-most important member of an undercard faction and now there's an excuse to get them separated without firing the guy who was in AEW first and has a lot of friends here without any cause" is not really a tough explanation to buy.
Colt himself has so many friends in the company that it would've taken little more than some random Dark guy asking Colt where he's been and he'd just be like "not on the road now, I'm getting moved to ROH when it starts up" and whoever he told just put 2 and 2 together. Could've been any number of people really.

His revenge will be that the Elite will no longer be able to do BTE videos on YouTube. You watch. And I'm going to laugh my ass off about it. Not because it is Punk being immature (which is why we are in this mess) but instead of the Bucks and Omega being grown ups and EVP's (you know, the role they are supposed to have within the company), they instead continue to act like children on their BTE show.
It's just a circle of immaturity in the wrestling world that the hardcore or casual fan doesnt need in their lives.

Naw, the entire thing happened because CM Punk told Colt Cabana to ignore a order to take down a podcast, and that he would cover all of Colt's legal expenses stemming from ignoring that request, but then didn't because Colt had dinner with 2 guys he worked with in ROH who were now employed by FEDBAD. That ended up being the most expensive pizza dinner of all time.

That side came from the Bucks and isn’t being reported as an NDA. It was an internal agreement to not speak negatively about the other(s). The Bucks and Omega could not help themselves. That wrestlers within AEW can work counterpoint to AEW’s success is not only baffling, but a HUGE part of this drama.

TK could have bought Punk out of his contract after Brawl Out which would have allowed him to sign with WWE, debut at the Rumble, Main Event Mania against Roman, win the UWU belts, lead WWE to the top of popularity, setting new all time records for attendance, gate, and ratings leading to the closure of the NBA, NFL, NBL, and NHL and obviously AEW (but not Impact, nothing can kill Impact).
By having Punk come back and creating the perfect environment for him to meltdown he’s now “damaged goods” and a “cancer” to the industry. WWE won’t touch him and all national sports leagues but most importantly AEW are safe.

Ah hell, I’ll just give it now:
The Elite think they started AEW. Whether or not they did isn’t as important as them thinking they did. They were probably promised the top spots, to see their vision through and be given time to learn on the job.
CM Punk had the option of coming in on the ground. He chose to snub his nose when AEW was not a sure thing in his mind. He went to WWE Backstage. Then he waits until the new car smell is gone to come in and make a splash? Difference in wrestling philosophies aside — and young talent should be able to learn — Punk coming in with top pay and the weight to disrupt the vision of The Elite must have been very confronting to them.
Now, as wrestling fans, does this attitude of The Elite help us? Not really. Not unless you like crappy wrestling. But I can understand why they might feel like the wronged parties. They had their party pissed on by a big dog. They want this to be their story.

It's hard when you cultivate a work culture that you're proud of (our outside perspectives about that culture aside), and someone comes in and sort of takes over. A new sheriff in town when maybe--to you--that new sheriff didn't seem necessary. Especially when you're used to more autonomy and said new sheriff disrupts that.

In relation to Punk's debut, when was the first time AEW had an arena event. Feel like it had to be well before that.
Thinking back on it, Punk also was the focal attraction of two shows that AEW DEBUTED. That's gotta eat at the Elite too now that I think about it.
There’s going to be jealousy involved in their bitterness, whether they admit it or not. I can see a bunch of people who consider themselves “artists” presenting themselves as people that can accept that jealousy and pretend that it’s not the factor others purport it to be. It’s not that Punk is a bigger star or better than them — they just wanted to do it their way.
Doesn’t make it true, necessarily.
What new data?
Just speaking generally.
I don't like the Bucks and more ascribe to Punk's style of storytelling but I get the frustration. We've all had stuff like that happen at work. Too bad they're a couple of jackoffs and I wish them misery.
This.

Actually, quick google search, found it. No longer waiting.
Step 1) Type in “Self Destruction of CM Punk” into google.
Step 2) Click on the ‘images’ tab.
Step 3) Scroll down.

So I've finally decided to block Noid. I think I've had enough of the black hole of negativity.

But it's also Meltzer that reported it. So he's full of shit and just trying to start shit just so he can "report" something.
“Big name wrestler might end up in WWE, AEW, Impact or NJPW” might be the most blantant non-scoop/hedging of bets imaginable.
It's almost up there with his favorite catch-all: "Plans change."

Dave Meltzer doesn’t talk to anybody anymore. WWE talent shut him out because of his biases. And because WWE has likely gotten better about plans getting out anyway. I doubt Vince or Triple H are letting anyone know what plans are. There is also social media and more contemporary dirt sheet guys to share with. Meltzer doesn’t even break AEW stories. His most active role has been in spreading the “CM Punk is horrible” narrative.

This is a dark day in the history of TPWW but most likely the right choice.

Lol, kind of weird that GD is calling me a black hole of negativity, but whatever it takes to get that asshole fucking gone. I suspect they’ll be back making fake accounts and trying to passive aggressively troll people within 2 weeks.
Btw, I’m not talking generally here. I meant the right choice specifically for GD.
