They lost them last month to DIY after 42 days, then they won a #1 contender tournament 2 weeks ago and the 2 out of 3 falls match announcement between them and DIY was made on last week’s SmackDown!.

I like MCMG. DIY are talented guys that don’t hit. That 2/3 Falls should be a great match though. It plays into how DIY first won the NXT titles. I’m sure the audience will eventually be willing to “get up” for it. It’ll probably be one of the more noteworthy tag title matches on PPV in some time.

DIY will always be one of my favorite stories because they weren’t even planned to be signed at the time WWE was signing everyone. They took a chance booking opportunity and turned it into lucrative careers, maybe the biggest feud in NXT history, bunch of titles between them etc.

4-5 matches is pretty standard for a Rumble PPV, especially with 2 Rumble matches. But the pacing in between is hilarious. And it’s all due to contractual obligations with Peacock. They show ads and everyone else sees random stalling efforts.

Probably nice for the people there live to take a piss and get a beer without missing a match at least. Makes for bad at-home viewing tho.

Lots of surprise entrants usually only happens when WWE don’t have faith in their roster. The 2012 Rumble was particularly egregious for it, like 7-8 surprises in that one including all the announcers.

The field for this one was loaded. Shitload of star power and that’s what people want to see. Glad they didn’t shoehorn McAfee or someone else in there. Handled it beautifully.

WWE was notorious for benching the healthy half of a tag team when their partner got hurt. But in 2020 they had restrictions and were looking for new things to do with a reduced roster, no fans etc. they were willing to take on risks.

Jey could’ve just been a one-off program for a newly heel Roman, yet it turned into multi-months. Solidified him as a legit guy. And yes he went back to tagging for a while, but with a higher profile.

But it all goes back to his run behind closed doors. Setting himself up for incredible success like this. Imagine going to 2015 and telling someone Jey Uso would be a legit main eventer a decade later? Never ever ever would’ve believed that.

I mean, personally I always thought Jey had a >50% chance. I think he probably chooses to face Gunther at WrestleMania 41 assuming he’s still world heavyweight champion after Elimination Chamber and wins his first WHC. I don’t think Cody is dropping the Undisputed title anytime terribly soon.

Back home.... was watching at a friend's house.....

Women's Rumble was pretty bad I think... Normally past few years I have felt the women's Rumble was really fun and sometimes better than the men's Rumble.... This year felt like there weren't really any "stories" or anything "going on". Of course it could be that I am also now unfamiliar with a lot of the names via not watching....

End of the woman's match was very anti-climactic too.... Roxanne Perez had a moment of "Oh, the timing is off... I could easily get back in the ring, but I better wait here for Charlotte to kick me".

DIY vs MCMG had a pretty cool hype package, but then the actual match felt very rushed and without a lot of "drama" for a 2 out of 3 falls match. Felt like the falls just flew by, and then ended with shenanigans. Basically a time waster.

Cody vs KO was pretty great. Seems like it has been a good feud and that KO has done a great job getting Cody (more) over. KO is always quality.... I wonder what is next for him... if maybe he is going to fight Sami Zayn again....

Men's Rumble was a lot of fun this year. Really well structured... a bunch of smaller guys in the first half putting on a good show... then the mid-card big-men came in and started to get over.... and then finally just a poop ton of star power got into the ring... probably one of the most "star studded" Rumbles in a long time.

Jey Uso winning was a legit shock but I ain't mad at it. My friend said that Jey just had a match against Gunther where he came very close... so I imagine that he will go for Gunther again in order to "prove himself". Gives Jey a big moment, puts over the secondary world title as "legit"..... and now Cena gets to have "more drama" in his Road to Wrestlemania when he has to go win the Elimination Chamber.

Overall, the world title match and the Men's Rumble made this show worth it.

And unlike what others have said here, I didn't feel like the pacing of the event was bad, with the timing and breaks between matches. Gave it time to breath.

Pretty good show. Best Women’s Rumble I’ve ever seen. I haven’t seen them all. Thought it was cool how Roxanne almost did “The Bayley” but couldn’t quite pull it off. Jordynne/Piper had that cool spot. Chelsea is over. Everyone played their part well.

Tag Titles was okay. Liked the fake tag spot. Didn’t really cook. People seemed to be politely watching. I didn’t like the finish. If Street Profits were going to get involved they should have helped MCMG win. Everyone kind of looks a bit stupid coming out of this.

I liked that they didn’t use any weapons other than the ladder in the WWE Title match. Some of those spots were insane. I think Owens is going to hold Zayn not getting involved and not being at his bedside against him. And I’m sure he’ll whine about Cody trying to break his neck.

Surprised at the Rumble outcome. It makes sense given how over Jey is. Thought a lot of people had good shine. They missed an opportunity by not giving it to Chad Gable. Jacob Fatu is a madman. I’m curious to see where Punk/Roman/Seth goes. Was good to see AJ back.

Kind of hoping Jey challenges Cody. Don’t think that’s happening, but it would be my preference over Jey vs. Gunther. I guess there are lots of wrinkles they can add to the story. Will Jimmy be supportive or jealous? How will Sami feel? All that jazz.

Maybe they can just send Jey to NXT and he can challenge Oba Femi? :shifty:

WWE has seldom had a babyface win their first World Title in the main event off their first Royal Rumble win. I think it’s basically Batista and Drew McIntyre — and Drew didn’t get to do it in front of people. Chris Benoit if you don’t count the WCW Title. Jey’s in a pretty rare spot.

Anybody else getting the vibe that Punk's "favor" is going to be getting Jey to put his WM spot on the line in which Punk will win....Seth beats Gunther at some point for the belt, setting up Punk/Rollins for the title....Roman is pissed at Paul for helping Punk get the title match and soon it becomes a triple threat for the title??? Still think it's gonna be Cena/Cody at WM. I'm thinking Sami costs Jey the win in the Punk match setting up Sami/Jey at WM.

Still waiting on a Titty Honking Rumble

Anybody else getting the vibe that Punk's "favor" is going to be getting Jey to put his WM spot on the line in which Punk will win....Seth beats Gunther at some point for the belt, setting up Punk/Rollins for the title....Roman is pissed at Paul for helping Punk get the title match and soon it becomes a triple threat for the title??? Still think it's gonna be Cena/Cody at WM. I'm thinking Sami costs Jey the win in the Punk match setting up Sami/Jey at WM.


I'd like to see if any of this plays out.

If they wanted to go with Punk/Rollins for the belt, they should have just had Punk win the Rumble and Seth go after the belt because he’s Punk-drunk.

The Roman inclusion is more interesting than Punk/Seth on its own, but it could just be to set up Elimination Chamber.

Seth doesn’t feel like he’s on the level of your tippy-top stars.

Now if Jey won the Rumble last year it would have been a better story.

I think this was his year. Last year would have been too early and next year could be too late.

Women's Battle Royal/Rumbles are always awful

I hate how they have to jump/spring into their own eliminations. I thought the Rumble would have been fine using the fact that men are tied up in the Rumble to deliver major women’s programs this time of year.

Culminating a Queen of the Ring tournament makes sense. Give them a WrestleMania title shot. You’ve then got your 18 other women’s titles.

I get Jey and Gunther have “unfinished business,” but I can see Jey going after Cody at Mania. They can tie a lot into that (the Sami stuff, Roman/Punk/Seth, Drew/Priest, even Cena and whatever Logan Paul is doing).

Gunther faces the winner of the Elimination Chamber, which I’m not so certain is going to be Cena. Or it could be him and Paul in a three-way. But I’m thinking they could strap the rocket onto Bron Breakker and do World Champion vs. IC Champion with everyone else tied up on purpose.

Rumble was kinda disappointing, but excited about Jey Uso winning. Totally didn't see it coming, so it was quite refreshing.

Sadly, all this talk about "the main event of Wrestlemania" etc. is total bollocks. No way in hell Jey Uso will be THE main event. Probably world title match, opening match of night two, or something.

Still, good for him.

The rest of the match was pretty generic and same as every year. Can't really think of anything in particular I liked, except Sheamus clapping along to Joe Hendry and then "what are you doing?! I was enjoying that!" :lol:

A lot of people seem to be predicting Jey either loses his title shot or does the show opening title match. I get where people are coming from, but I don’t think they do that. I don’t really see the point in giving it to Jey if they’re not going to go full hog with it. Vince would have done that, but he’s gone.

I liked the moment where a lot of big stars were in the Rumble at the end. Logan Paul was ace. That scumbag always is. Jacob Fatu stood out. I thought the whole thing was “clever” in terms of who it put emphasis on. Bron Breakker and Penta came out looking good. Can’t really think of anyone who looked bad — except Kaiser, which was on purpose.

Women's Battle Royal/Rumbles are always awful

Yeah, I can get a kick out of entrances, spots etc but when it comes to the basic function of a Rumble most of the eliminations in the women's ones just look bad.

I don't know how tall the top rope actually is in WWE but seeing Iyo, Roxanne, and Alexa are the shortest on the roster and the ropes seem to barely graze the top of their shoulders, figure the ropes are around 4 and a half feet tall. Most of the women are 5 and a half feet or shorter.

There's just no structural way for them to get over the top rope without doing most of the work themselves with jumping out. Only someone who is exceptionally tall for a woman like Charlotte could take a standard clothesline over the top without it looking like shit.
