View Full Version : Will Maven Get Rid Of The Tough Enough Stigma?

I don't get it Johnny Nitro,Nidia,Jackie, and Shaniqa have all gotten pass the Tough Enough Stigma. Why can't Maven? He is talented but evertime he comes out JR,King,Coach, etc always refer to him as Maven from Tough Enough. But they never did that for Johnny Nitro nor Nidia and the likes. What is Maven have to do to get pass that stigma?

He is forever titled first ever tough enough winner so the answer unfortunatly is No.

How about stay healthy for more than 3 months at a pop? Plus, outside of Johnny Nitro, who I haven't personally seen wrestle, all those people you mentioned are garbage. The entire Tough Enough concept is a bust and I don't relly feel that bad for Maven. Even when he's not broken, he's nothing special.

The problem is that since Maven was the first one to be Touch Enough Champion and he beat Nidia to actually making appearances it became his gimmick. At the time "Touch Enough Champion" was marketable...since the first one it hasn't really been all that important so the other were given crappy gimmicks and thrown in the mix...ironically they now have important careers...because which being the first TE winner is a way to get over, for Maven it is the ONLY way...that and he is so injury pron that he can't get a new push....The only time he wasn't pushed as "Mr. Tough Enough" was right after he threw Taker out of the Rumble...then won the Hardcore Title right before X8...then kind of died off...too bad since he seems to have charisma and talent...

I guess that is kind of a round about way of saying...nothing. There is nothing that Maven can do to get passed it until he gets a push for his talent and isn't fed to the big names as a jobber/newbie (ironically he is becomming one of the older guys yet still is treated as a newbie).

He should get a new gimmick I agree, his TE gimmick is stupid.

He needs to go back in time, stop himself from sending his tape to MTV, and enroll in a regular wrestling school.

LMAO @ Nowhere Man

Maven can be pushed as The Rock Jr. Fans would mark out like crazy because they would get to see someone that somewhat looks like Rocky every week. All he has to do is learn how to cut amazingly entertaining promos, wrestle well enough to draw in main events, and think of many cool catch phrases, and this would draw huge ratings.

There are select people who came off of Tough Enough who had
talent. Unfortunately, when people hear Tough Enough they think
of the sorry people like Jackie, Linda, and Co., not the good ones
like Jonah, Matt, etc..

Maven's music sucks. Therefore, he will never get over.

TE1 was fixed! when Maven was in the ring in front of the judges,he smiled at Jackie and they added a "ding" sound effect. When Chris Noinski was in front of the judges there was music playing in the background and nidia had somthing cant remember what but she diffinitly had somthing,i think she had the longest time in the ring.

Ya know, maybe he should turn heel, and fued with Rico after he drop kicks Miss Jakie. Maven flirts with Miss Jackie, Miss Jackie blows him off, Maven pushes Miss Jackie, Rico goes after Maven, Charlie Hass walks in as Maven is getting ready to hit Rico with a German Suplex, Hass walks out when he sees what looks like Maven grabbing Rico around the waist with Rico bent over, go check out the TNA-NWA caption thread (had to plug it in this message somewhere), Miss Jackie slaps Maven before he can hit the German Suplex on Rico, and the fued is on. Next week, dress Maven up kinda like the coach, give him fitting theme music, and since there is no more tough enough he can market himself as the badass than won the first one. Maybe have him join a tag team to fued with Rico and Hass... see where it goes from there, and then kill JBL.

I wanna see Johnny Nitro team up with Matt Capotelli (redubbed Matt Thunder) as a means to further suck up to Bischoff... they could do the high-flying Hardy Boyz thing but a little more technical.

In fact... check this out (courtesy of mth, Rajah's resident sex machine/artist extraordinaire!):

Bob Holly? Is that you? ;)

Anyways, seriously. First, he was the first guy with the TE gimmick. Strike 1. It meant a lot less as time went on, but it stuck with him.

He's very vanilla. That's strike 2. It's a combination of personality, style, and skill. He's solid for the most part, but nothing special.

He's also done quite a few injuries. It's hard to really get past that when you don't work a program long enough to outlive the TE memory. Strike Three, that's the ballgame.

Why not give him a gimmick like...

The only man who can do a dropkick better than Hardcore Holly?

Seriously, Maven's the Raw version of Bob Holly. Zero pop, a nice dropkick, no wrestling skills. I sense a conspiracy here...

It's a reality TV programme, the editors let us see what they want us to think about the competitors in it.
At the end of the day, there editing is crucial in who wins.

Maven would most likely never had made it, if it wasn't for TE. But I like him, to a certain extent he's still a fresh face in the business and this is good for him.
As people said before he was the first Tough Enough Champion, and WWE will never let us forget because they won't us to believe that it can happen to us. That's his appeal, that he was one of us who is now a WWE superstar.
I remember the crowd marking out like mad when he eliminated The Undertaker in Royal Rumbble 2003(?) and before his injury he was on the up. People were impressed with him backstage and he seems to have the right attitude.

I think Maven could have a future in the business. He's still very young, and although he isn't that good right now, I think he has untapped charisma and potential. They should send him to OVW for a couple years, and develop him more. I think he will be worth the investment and time.

Do you think that's why they don't even use his last name? So he'll seem even more like 'one of us'? That's an interesting concept.

What is his last name, anyway?

Don't you guys remember? Maven's mother was sick, that's a major factor that got him the votes to win TE1. People were on a sympathy trip and wound up picking the wrong guy to win. This error, once the empathy wore off, left everyone with this plain "nice guy". Fortunately, someone saw through the fog and smartly signed Christopher Nowinski (the fact that he's injured now is irrelevant).
