View Full Version : Stipulation Matches...

I don't know...maybe it's me, but there are far too many stipulation matches floating around. I know Professional Wrestling needs to evolve, and maybe my tastes havn't yet, but it seems to me like many people on these boards and people in the WWE use stipulation matches as a quick fix. I remember back when not only was it rare to have a stipulation match...it meant something.
Case and point. Hell in a Cell...originally used to have Undertaker literally teach Shawn Michaels what Hell was about. Now used whenever WWE realises they are booking the same match for the 50th time so they try to throw a bit of flavoring on it.
Cage matches where used back in the day when a wrestling would continiously run away or get other people to interfere...basically it meant that it would be One on One to the finish...now it is thrown around like a toy.
And a big one that bugs me about lot of people here...Ladder matches. Any high flyer you guys see it seems you want to see them in a ladder match....I have even heard someone suggest a 20 man Cruiserweightt Ladder Match. but by doing this, it cheapens it. There is no need to throw a ladder in the mix when two men can do a perfectly good match on their own. And eventually you are bound to run into some people who literally kill of the credability....(See: Big Bossman and Hell in a Cell)
So maybe it's just me, maybe I am too old fassioned, maybe I need to update my views, but it seems to me that maybe we look to special matches as a quick fix, when deep down the problem may be deeper then just finding a special stipulation.
Years back, Ladder Matches werent used for high flyers... Remember Rock/Hunter? That was, IMO, a great match... No highflying whatsoever...
WWE should only use Gimmick Matches at either crucial stages in a feud or at the END of the feud... They've even gone as far as putting WOMEN in cage matches... Too far... Hardyz/Dudleyz/E&C had atleast 5 matches with either Ladder, TLC, or tables matches... Although too much, IMO, it worked...
Triple H and Shawn have not, to my knowledge, gone one on one in a singles match in this feud... In this feud, it doesnt work, but it makes it exiting, which makes the fans WANT the feud... Or atleast that's what WWE thinks...
If they used Hell in a Cell once a year in a high profile feud, to end it, it would be fine... To just throw another one out there, is just stupid... Unless Bad Blood is the proverbial "Final Chapter" between Hunter and Shawn, great... If not, Im sure we'll be seeing more gimmick matches...

Not on a PPV, just the Raw match that they "drew" because both of their shoulders were down. At PPV's they had the Summerslam '02 street fight, Elimination Chamber at Survivor Series, 3-fall match at Armageddon, Elimination Chamber 2, last-man standing, and two triple threats with benoit. Now they're going into HIAC. It would be a much bigger deal if it weren't a matter of the only big-time gimmick match they haven't given us with these two.

You can thank Jeff Hardy and his millions of adoring pre-pubescent female fans for that.

I think the two Vegas Raws were very original. As long as they don't go back more than once a year it won't get stale. Christmas hasn't even gotten stale, and look how long it's been around.
As for the TLC matches, they were unique as long as they were fought by JUST Hardyz/Dudleys/E&C. They turned to shit when they were used to hype "super-tag teams" (I'm talking about Jericho and Benoit for those of you who have forgotten)
Triple H and Shawn have not, to my knowledge, gone one on one in a singles match in this feud... In this feud, it doesnt work, but it makes it exiting, which makes the fans WANT the feud... Or atleast that's what WWE thinks...
I think when Michaels first came back they had some non-gimmick matches, but whether or not that was the same feud that this one is (after a friggin year or so...) is yet to be determined by a majority vote. You are right about this though. Maybe they'll end the feud with a super-gimmick match. I can see it now......WMXXXVIII: HHH vs. Shawn Michaels in the biggest match of them all! Hell in a cage in a cell in an elimination chamber iron man first second and third blood last man standing after a 100 count.
Oh who am I kidding? They'd wait for twenty minutes before they released HHH from his chamber, both guys would get bloodied twice, they'd have one pinfall each, and they'd both lay there on the mat for the full 100 count taking a nap. (At least maybe I could use the experience to teach my nephew how to count to one hundred..... :( )

Shawn's wife is having a kid. He'll be out ofr a few months. Expect the feud to start again after he gets back...

or an i quit match, think next time HBK & HHH start fueding with each other the fans should all turn their backs on them then finally wwe might realise that people are bored with seeing these to fight each other all the time (or it might just be me thats sick of it)
people will prob disagree with this but i think the only way to end this fued is the loser has to change roster and go to smackdown and then that way SD gets a atar name its screaming out for to put some like back into the show.
stipulations are becoming to common and meaningless

Put Shawn Micheals on Smackdown i say, he would suit that show perfectly.

Am I the only one who has completly forgotten why they started fueding in the first place...they say it's been a decade or whatever....really they were buds up until 98....then Shawn came back, Hunter pedigreed him for no reason and suddenly this was a decade in the making.

Even if ya due the math when this whole stupid FUED started it had only been. 3 years, so I don't see how they get a Decade...(Shrugs) Don't ask me.

10 years, 6 years, 3 years, it doesnt matter its been going on for too long!
end it and send one of them to smackdown, im bored by it and the reason hhh pedigreed him was because hbk wasnt ment to comeback and hhh was peed off because he felt hbk was stealing the limelight when he was becomin the main man!
the main point of this thread is about stipulations being overused i agree with this point but think a stipulation that the loser goes to SD is a good one to end this fued!
