For some reason my PS2 can't read playstation games anymore, when I put them in it tries to load for a minute and then says "Disc Error" or something. The messed up thing is that it can still read DVD's and it reads the memory cards just fine. Whats up? Is there a way to fix it?

Disc clean needed I'm guessing...too bad the lense is in the box

I tried like four different games though, both PS2 and PS1

When I tried modding my PS1 and failed, I bought another one and did it successful the 2nd time, but it turned out the laser in the new one I bouht was bad, so I put in the old laser from the one I destroyed and it still works fine. So it's just a guess.

Electronics aren't supposed to make sense anyway....

The infamous disc read error.

Sucks to be you...

Then again, there is a way to fix it, but I forget how. I saw it on x-play once. It voids your warranty, but by now I'm betting you have no warranty anyway, and a broken PS2 isn't doing you any good.

Yeah the whole void thing sucks when the lense is inside the system. With my PS1 I just use rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip. But with PS2 you pretty much have to sue one of those crappy cleaning CDS. But yeah if you are willing to void the warranty open it up. I really can't think of anyhting else it could be

Could I take it somewhere to be fixed?

Well I'd try one of those disc doctor discs that you can get at Gamestop or Best Buy. If that doesn't work, I think a place like Gamestop might fix it for you. Sony might help fix it too...but I'm not sure how much it would be or how long it would take.

This happened to my sister's boyfriend, he phoned up Sony and they gave him a replacement

Which was good because we were in the middle of a badass game of Balders Gate.

You have to copy and paste it.

If that link doesn't fix it:

If you still have the warrenty, use it, don't void it. That's just stupid. Go to playstation.com and find the correct number there, it should be pretty easy to find. They will tell you to send it in and get it fixed. Be nice and you won't have to pay. Or, if you want to try a disk/lens cleaner that might be cheaper.

If all else fails, you can open the case (thereby voiding the warrenty) and clean the lens with a Q tip and rubbing alcohol. You may get the error later down the road and if you do, you may have to just continue this.

Since the PS2 is only $150 now, you could also go buy a new one as they don't have the problem (as much/if any).

DON'T TOUCH THE LENS!!!

It's a very easy fix. You have to open the case (void the warranty) then take the screws out of the top of the disc drive. Open the drive so that it exposes the little white gear underneath it. Move the little gear a bit in either direction. Put a game back in and test it (cover it back up when doing so). It often takes several times to get it in just the right spot, but it's garaunteed to work every time. I've done it to many of my friend's ps2's for a quick buck.

If you need more explanation than that I can get out the digicam and take pics of exactly what I'm talking about.

edit: yea, if you copy and paste that link it works. Didn't read through it, but it probably says what I just said.
