I can't open the movies on my computer (specifically WMV, AVI, and MPG) by double-clicking anymore. All it does is it quickly shows the hourglass as if it were busy and then it goes back to the regular pointer, but nothing happens.
Can anyone help or do I have to resort to something desperate?

Trial-and-error...
Or try restarting.

Try reinstalling the media players and codec's.

My windows media player did that. Re-installing did the trick.
But then I realized that Winamp 5 runs the video much faster. My suggestion would be changing your file association and make videos open in Winamp. Musch more faster.

winamp always went out of sync for me, which was really annoying.

If winamp gets out of synch, then your computer has a serious speed issue.
