Hi everybody!

I'm a wrestling fan from Spain. I used to watch WWF when I was a kid and I loved it. Then after Wrestlemania 6, they took it out of TV so I couldn't watch it for years. Then 2 years ago I moved to the US and started watching again. I had (and still have) a lot of catching up to do. Imagine I first knew about The Rock when I saw him on The Mummy! And I never knew about Stone Cold (now my favourite as you may suppose) until I saw his book on the Target store I used to work at. I didn't know anybody since all the wrestlers I knew (except Ric Flair) are now retired and though I know now a lot more thanks to sites like this, I'm still no expert by no means.

Anyway, I wanted to talk about overrated wrestlers that got more fame and titles than they probably derserved if we look at their wrestling skills.
The other day I downloaded some videos of some of the best Ultimate Warrior's matches. You know he used to be one of my favourites and I remembered him as a great and electrifying wrestler, but when I watched those videos again I was so disapointed!! All he did was running around the ring shaking like crazy but no moves whatsoever! Thinking about it now I almost don't understand why he was so popular.
Any thoughts on this?

Well first of all, welcome back to the world of the WWE.

The first wrestler that comes to mind when you mention the word 'overrated' is Ultimate Warrior. I NEVER liked Warrior. I think Diamond Dallas Page is overrated, along with Scott Hall.

Randy Orton. I've said it a thousand times before, and I'll say it a thousand times again (and still no one will listen), the guy is nowhere near as good as people make him out to be.

Welcome to TPWdub.

I agree with you guys about DDP, Scott Hall, and Warrior, but let's not forget Hulk Hogan. Sure he's considered the most charismatic and revolutionary figure in wrestling in the 80's (a title which I believe goes to Flair), but he wasn't that great in the ring. At that time wrestling was returning to the mainstream and Vince McMahon capitalized on Hulk Hogan being the American Hero. Which is funny because that's exactly what fans don't want to see today.

You're right, I never was crazy about Hogan either. His finisher was lame. It's funny that Hogan vs. Warrior at Wrestlemania 6 is considered by many one of the greatest matches of all time....

Hes good at sending me to sleep, the cocky heel gimmick is the oldest schtick in the book and he doesn't really add anything new to it.

And I'll say the same, while also adding he's nowhere as bad as some people make him out to be.

I don't know, I don't think DDP was overrated at all. He wasn't amazing in the ring, but he knew this, meticulously planned out matches, and got great reactions.

I'll say HBK.

Back this one up. He doesn't really get too much praise except on the Internet, and now is only slowly gaining the support of the fans in the arenas.

Anyway, I'm going with Triple H post-injury. He was actually a pretty good wrestler in his days in WCW and beyond, but after a while, he must have started to believe his own hype and made his own matches suffer...it's kinda messed up. He was an Internet favorite for such a long time, but when the ball was given to him, he didn't just drop it, it went all the way through the earth. He's been pretty stagnant for the longest...when he really was on a roll in '99-'00.

Also, The Ultimate Warrior, is probably one of the most overrated wrestlers ever. I don't even know if you can call the guy a wrestler, but a body builder imitating a wrestler like those "XGA" commercials. He is definitely one of the beneficiaries of the ultra-roided Hulk Hogan wave....his gaudy outfits, nearly nonexistent moveset...and the guy himself has gone off the deep end in all his interviews, and commentary. Truth is, he ultimately sucks.

Who overrates Scott Hall and DDP? Scott Hall isn't exactly underrated, but he isn't overrated either. He was a pretty good roleplayer for his career, except when he got trashed and decided he was going to go on TV like that.

As for DDP...I don't think I see anyone ranking him as a top wrestler, though his matches are definitely reknowned for their excitement factor (thanks to his innovative placements of the Diamond Cutter). He was a late bloomer that produced a strong surge in a slowly declining WCW product trying to keep up. He's probably more underrated than he is overrated.

Over-rated wrestlers:
Bradsh</>it - no way in hell this guy should still be working for WWE!
Trouble H - too many injuries, and his focus is off his in-ring work!
Hardbore Holly - dick.
[/LISTING DICKS]

Under-rated wrestlers:
Jamie Noble
Batista (yes, I said that!)
All the cruiserweights (except Jacqueline and Chavo Classic)
Gonna stop there because this could be a gargantuan list!

Seriously though I always thought that Batista was a muscle-bound chunk of crap, until quite recently anyway.

If anyone saw the match he had with Val Venis a couple of weeks ago on Heat, they would have seen a different side to him.
He was doing top-rope super-plexes, and all sorts of other stuff, that he doesn't get to do on RAW.
Basically from what I saw I kind of think now that he's being held back because he's a member of Evolution and they can't think what to do with him.

He's huge, strong (2 qualities Vince loves), he apparently CAN wrestle.
The only thing he needs is experience on the mic, so he can prove to us that he's not think as mud.
What are the chances of him getting mic-time when he's surrounded by HHH, Flair and Orton?
Zip.

Wait until Evolution starts to crack, and hopefully then we'll see a different side to Batista.

He was once World Tag Team Champion with Ric Flair. That counts for something right, with such awesome (and only) competition in the tag division like S.H.I.T and La Resistance right?

Have Lita give birth to it when Kane is gloating that he is a father...

Tough for me to say - everyone that I don't like is generally universally hated by everyone here anyway (JBL, Holly, A-Train). Those who are liked by some and hated by others (Randy Orton seems to be a good example by the looks of things) I tend to like regardless.

Maybe I'm going soft in my old age or something (I do give money to beggars these days if they ask nicely...) or maybe it's just that I'm right and everyone else is wrong, I don't know. In any case, the only guy I can think of who anyone likes whom I don't rate is Sabu (now, in his prime, whenever) so there's my pick. If you'd asked me to pick underrated wrestlers mind you, I'd be able to give you a fair few.

Batista's pretty good on the mic, for a big guy.

And he wears awesome suits.

Best moment of RAW the past two months: Batista/Kane showdown in the Battle Royale. The ONLY thing better since Wrestlemania was Shelton over Trips.

Why do I like Batista? I don't know, I think it just seems that everything he does is that much more intense than a Lesnar or a Kane.

When he looked right at Kane, got that evil intense look on his face that said "fucking BRING it," and delivered the goods with and awesome spinebuster, I was losing my mind.

And you know what, he can wrestle a little, too. Because he's a hoss that doesn't do a bunch of suplexes, people just think off the bat that he punches, clotheslines, and powerbombs. But if you actually pay attention, he breaks out cross armbreakers, camel clutches, superplexes, and other moves that make you take a second look.

Best big man in the WWE right now.
