no matter how good a movie is, they all always trash it, as if they could ever hope to make even one episode of a soap opera. i get mad when i read these reviews after having seen a movie that i thought was pretty decent (in this case, Chronicles of Riddick) and it is painfully obvious that they weren't paying any attention when watching it -like this one asswipe who was shitting on Riddick and talking about how the necromongers wanted to "bring about the underverse."[if you have even watched the trailer, you probably are aware that this is completely inaccurate] what do they watch like 3 movies at a time? i think if they actually WATCHED the movies they trash, they might actually be able to appreciate them.

I wouldn't pay attention and would write a bad review for Chronicles of Riddick if I was forced to watch it too.

Vin Diesel is such a terrible actor, I saw him in Triple X, and I was like, how does this guy have a job?

Actually, the only thing worse than film critics are food critics. Bah Christ. When your life's speciality is forcing another morsel of over-glazed lamb shank down your oily, globular, over-opinionated gullet; when, of all the things in the world men are called to do, of all the vocations of love and adventure, of all the trials of the emotions, and amongst all the voyages of spirit mankind can embark upon; when, given this whole universe of possible callings, the one you choose is to sit on your crapulent crack and lazily whine about someone else's cooking, that's when you know you are at the very epitome of the BFW shitheap.

what hero said, douche :p
how can they accurately review a movie if they aren't even paying attention to the plot. i get annoyed too, because they demand that ever fucking movie devotes 75% of it's running time to character development. they in general can't comprehend certain characters are larger than life in the movies and so don't necessarily exhibit normal emotions and reactions...since they aren't supposed to be normal. I thought Vin Diesel's acting was actually decent in Pitchblack and Chronicles of Riddick.

 Speed 2!? WTF
Film critics, like critics of any kind, are usually the people who couldn't make it into their business/sport/hobby/etc. based on their skills in that field, and were left with no other option than to take out their latent anger towards themselves for failing on others for succeeding.
Or old, washed-up people from an outdated era of their field who try to cling onto some semblance of what was, in the past, considered "good" and "bad" and again slough off their inadequacies on the people who're breaking their records or whatever.
Critics are failures who try to hide their shittiness by downplaying others' strengths.

Seriously though he's been reviewing movies since the 70's and out of all the thousands of movies he's reviewed you can only find about 10 reviews that you disagree with. I'm not including the movies you though sucked that he gave a thumbs up because 90% of the time he's saying it's a good "shitty movie" if you get what i'm saying.
Triple A

What mitch_h said.
Plus, I honestly didn't like The Usual Suspects either and O Brother Where Art Thou was terrible.
Plus, just because he gave thumbs up to certain movies and thumbs down to others, doesn't mean the "thumbs up" movies were better. It means they get a thumbs up for what they were.
I didn't say I agree with him 100% of the time. That would be impossible, but I agree with him at least 90% of the time.

lol Speed 2 one of the worst movies I can remember ever seeing. WTF was Ebert smoking at that time? Also, O Brother Where Art Though was quite good.
I think Triple A got it right when he said Ebert is just really bad with comedies. Most movie critics are REALLY strict when it comes to comedies.

I disagree with this, too:
"One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975) is on every list of favorite films.
I'd be interested to read his original review, because this movie wasn't even good enought to make his Top Ten list for 1975.

Hey Russ Meyer is the man. :D
I like Kim Newman, he reviews for Empire. He seem sto give good opinions on whether or not he likes a film and doesn't talk alot of crap.
But that's just there opinion, you don't have to read it and take it for granted. They may have different tastes than you, so go and check the film out for yourself.

Just because it wasn't in his top 10 doesn't mean it's not on his list of favorite movies. his "list of favorite movies" could be really long. And 1975 could have just been a great year for movies.

EH. I read reviews sometimes but only if I notice an overwhelming dislike or like for a film will I see/not see it. But most of the time I'll make up my own mind. If anything I'll listen to people I know for opinions I trust more.
