I am still deciding whether to see that or Spiderman 2. I dunno, I have Blazing Saddles here, so I don't want to overdo the comedy for the weekend.
Gonzo
07-09-2004, 02:59 AM
Spiderman 2 is good, but isn't comedy. But while Blazing Saddles is funny, I would go see Anchorman just to check it out.

I was iffy when I first started seeing the previews for it but it's getting good reviews. Ebert and Roeper gave it two thumbs up. Usually when a "dumb" comedy gets good reviews, it turns out to be great. I'm definately seeing it tomorrow.

Yea when I saw the first preview for it, I thought it was gonna be pretty bad. But toward the release of the movie the better previews came in and now I cant wait for the movie. I think it will be one of the funniest movies in his career.

The trailers for it are awful. It doesn't even look funny at all.
However, it is Will Ferrel, and the rest of the cast is pretty funny as well. I'll give this one a chance eventually, but based off the trailers I will not be going to see this any time soon.

WTF @ Ebert. He liked the movie and all but in his review he was like "Hoping to attract Corningstone, Ron Burgundy splashes on a high-octane cologne that smells, the newsroom agrees, 'like the time the raccoon got in the copier.'"
That wasn't Ron Burgundy. :wtf: How is he reviewing a movie that he liked yet he can't remember a major detail like that correctly.

Seriously, this movie was one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It's chock full of stupidly funny and memorable one liners. Best scene: The anchormen street fight.

07-09-2004, 11:24 PM
So...I get there at about the exact time the movie is supposed to start and it is sold out. Guess that happens. Don't like crowded theatres any way. I'll see it next week or something.

Got back about an hour ago. It was pretty funny. I guess I hyped it up to myself too much, because I was expecting it to be better, but it wasn't bad. IMO, the movie was kind of dull until that biker punted Baxter off the bridge From then on though, I really enjoyed it. Wasn't the funniest movie I've ever seen, but it was pretty good.

After watching the previews now, I'm noticing that like... 60% of that stuff was never in the actual movie. Should be some good DVD extras.

There is going to be a first DVD release with the actual film and outtakes and such, then there is going to be another release with another Ron Burgundy movie (the original cut was 4 hours long, and they shot enough to make a second Ron Burgundy Movie called "Wake Up, Ron Burgundy).

Rental for me. I think Ferrell is overhyped. I'm sure the movie will be alright, but not really my thing. Who knows though, might find myself down at the theater going to see it.
I don't think the movie was to great. Massively funny during some parts but other than that I didn't like it.
I didn't get to see liek the last 5 minutes becuase the film burnt out. I tried getting my money back but they wouldn't give it back.
What happened at the last 5 minutes?

Brick: I stabbed a guy in the heart
Ron: I saw that... Brick killed a guy! Didn't you throw a trident?
Brick: Yeah, there were horses, and someone was on fire, and I stabbed a guy in the heart with a trident.
Ron: I've been meaning to talk to you about that. You should probably find a safe place to stay for a while, lay low, 'cause you're probably wanted for murder.

There were some bits that had me laughing so hard I was almost crying.
And then there were parts where I know that's what they wanted from me, but it just wasn't funny enough.
I'm still not sure what I think of it. I guess I liked it, but there was enough that dragged, where I don't love it, and I probably won't see it again.
