The following press release was sent out today, claiming that former ECW World Champion and WWF, WCW and New Japan superstar Bam Bam Bigelow was retiring from wrestling. It should be noted that the release is claiming confirmation from "secondary and tertiary sources" and that Bigelow has been rumored to have retired in the past, only to reappear on independent shows later.

Here is the press release:

Ballpark Brawl Participant Retires From Wrestling

Organization to announce replacement tomorrow

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Buffalo, NY (07/12/04) - It is with mixed emotions that we, the Ballpark Brawl Executive Team, are announcing that Bam Bam Bigelow will not be appearing on July 17th at the Ballpark Brawl. Through secondary and tertiary sources the organization has been notified that Bigelow has officially retired from professional wrestling.

Those sources, citing chronic injuries and recommendations by health professionals, confirmed the information on Friday. Bigelow is no longer accepting bookings and will not be appearing at previously agreed upon appearances. The team attempted to have the July 17th match be an official retirement match but those offers were not responded to.

"We do not think it is our place to announce anyone's retirement; however, we do feel it is very important to keep our fans updated to changes in the card. We respect his decision and could not possibly understand the difficulty and pressure that he is currently operating under. We wish that he could have waited two weeks to retire but his life and health are too important to risk. We hope for his improved health and success in his new life outside of the squared circle," said Ballpark Brawl spokesman Christopher Hill.

The organization has been working very diligently over the weekend to secure a suitable replacement. The result of those negotiations will be made tomorrow morning on http://www.ballparkbrawl.com/.

Bam Bam was arugably one of the better Big men in wrestling, as well as a personal favorite of mine. He had a fine career. Good luck to him in his retirement, if he is indeed retired.

I always liked Bam Bam, but he wasn't really heard of after he saved those people from that fire. He took a long time to recover.
It was sad, because he was a monster in WCW but was made to look like a joke in the WWF :(

Bigelow was a decade ahead of his time. Big men were NOT supposed to be as agile as he was. The problem was, he wasn't as tall as some of the other big men in WWF at the time. The fact that, unlike most, he could actually move around made it even worse.

It's a shame. I wish Bigelow the best in his life.

Seriously i thought he was already retired, so i don't feel that bad. But yeah he was a really good worker when you look at the tool he had to work with, i.e him being fat

i always really liked Bam Bam.
His feud with Tatanka was pretty hot back in 1993-'94.

He was very agile for his size, and had a top class finisher

congrats BBB

I'll always remember him for his KOTR '93 finals match with Bret Hart.

Great big man.

He was a great, agile big man. It's sad that his biggest match was against LT was WM 11. LT had nothing but great words to say about Bam Bam in his autobiography, saying how he led him step by step through the match.

I thought he was already retired too. I would liked to have seen him come back for a little bit, just to put someone like Randy Orton over. Or someone.

Bam Bam was the man. Horrible theme music, but an excellent in-ring performer for a man of his size.

He also threw the best diving headbutt in the history of the business. Yes, even better than Benoit's.

Ooh, that's close. That's very close. DMK's was hot.

I'unno, I think Bam Bam might still get my vote because I would probably piss myself if I had a 360-pound guy diving headfirst into my chest.
