Went to Smackdown tonight in Providence, Rhode Island. It was... :| I sat third row ringside, behind Tony Chimmel, and diagnoally across from Cole and Tazz.
Guess who was there??? Bret Hart!!!! Okay, now seriously. I don't remember everything, and I'm not very good at writing "spoilers," but I'll do my best...
Bradshaw retained the title (of course). Eddie did a frog splash off the top of the cage ("Holy Shit!"), but at the end of the match El Gran Luchador came in... and helped JBL. El Gran Luchador was actually... Kurt Angle, as was realized when he gave Eddie the Angle Slam.
John Cena had a 3 on 1 handicapped match - against Kenzo Suzuki, Rene Dupree, and Booker T. He defeated Suzuki and Dupree, so they were eliminated, but then Booker T pinned Cena.
Spike Dudley and Rey Mysterio defeated the Basham Brothers, when Bubba Ray and D-Von came in to help Spike. Spike was mad though, and didn't want their help. (Shouldn't he have been happy that he finally won a match?)
Kurt Angle fired the Divas - Torrie, Sable, Dawn Marie and Jackie. They went to his office complaining about the way they have been treated, and he fired them.
There was a brief promo tease with "Heidenreich," who is coming back as a heel, and he'll be managed by Paul Heyman. Looks interesting.
No Undertaker, no live appearance by Paul Heyman.
After the matches, walking back to the car, I saw Pat Patterson, Gerald Brisco and Bruce Pritchard all getting in a car together. I called out their names, and they all acknowledged me except Pritchard (who may not have heard me).
You know what really bothered me? First of all, the security was terrible. I'm usually not one to talk badly about people but the security guards I saw at the Dunkin Donuts Center was just terrible.
Also, after the show, I went to buy a t-shirt. And the selection was terrible! Also the programs were all sold out, so I didn't get to buy one. This was the first time ever that I went to an event and didn't get a program.

So Heindrech will be the new fodder for taker.... :| Kurt Angle firing the Divas's sounds interesting.
Eddie/Angle should be a good one at SummerSlam. So taker will probably now face JBL unless they do a fatal Four way. Taker vs JBL for the title at SS....even I'm going :| :| :| on that one.

Eddie vs Angle should be great hopefully they put that as the SD Main Event. Can't wait to see that one live. JBL vs UT = :| though. I'd like to see Eddie get the title back from JBL soon and then defend it against Angle at SS.

Actually, I think you're right. It was a handicapped match, but I don't think it was for the title. I'm sorry about that. (See, I told you I'm not good at this.)

SmackDown!
Smackdown! opens with Booker T in the ring, saying he should be the United States champion because he is a former five time WCW champion and he was the one in the ring with John Cena when Kurt Angle stripped him last week. Rene Dupree came out and said that he should be the champion because they need a champion with class. Kenzo Suzuki and Hiroki came out and Hiroki said that Suzuki should be the champion, so the United States is represented by someone who loves the U.S. Booker insulted Suzuki, saying he doesn't even know how to speak English. Suzuki said, "Can you dig that Sucka?" which gave Booker the chance to say, "Tell me he didn't just say that?"
John Cena came out and insulted everyone, using Wizard of Oz references against all four. He says that he's going to Kurt Angle's office and he's going to get his title back. Cena goes into Angle's office and threatens him. Angle asks him if he'd hit someone in a wheelchair. Cena pulls him out of the chair. Luther Reigns tries to attack Cena, but he sidesteps Reigns and throws him into a wall, knocking him out. Angle has security drag out Cena and warns him it's going to be a night he never forgets.
*Rey Misterio & Spike Dudley defeated Chavo Guerrero & Jamie Noble. Noble had Spike defeated when D-Von Dudley came out and distracted the referee. Bubba Ray Dudley hit the ring and low blowed Noble, putting Spike on top for the pin. Afterwards, the Dudley Boyz were motioning that they helped Spike while he was acting as if he didn't want their help.
*In Angle's office, Reigns is being tended to. Angle announces John Cena is going to face Kenzo Suzuki, Rene Dupree, and Booker T in a handicap match later tonight.
*In a handicap match, it was John Cena vs. Booker T & Kenzo Suzuki & Rene Dupree. The handicap match featured elimination style falls. Kenzo Sukuzi was disqualified for choking Cena with a yellow sash he got from Hiroki while Cena was tied to the tree of woe in the corner. Cena pinned Rene Dupree after hitting a slingshot into a ringpost. Booker T tossed Cena out of the ring, where he was attacked by Luther Reigns and tossed into the ringpost. Cena was tossed back in the ring, where Booker pinned him with an Axe Kick. Booker wasn't given the belt, so it's still vacant.
*Backstage, the divas confronted Kurt Angle in his office and said they were tired of being ignored. Torrie Wilson told Angle that she knows that he blames her for her injuries, but not to take it out on everyone. Angle said he wouldn't do that, because they were all fired.
*They aired a promo touting the Smackdown debut of John Heidenrech, who noted that no one would give him a chance. He said that one man is giving him a chance and that man, Paul Heyman, will benefit.
*Backstage, Josh Matthews interviews Eddie Guerrero about his Cage match tonight. Guerrero promised victory and said he was gonna get high off winning the title.
*WWE Tag Team champion Paul London pinned D-Von Dudley with a rollup and a bridge. Bubba Ray Dudley and Billy Kidman were at ringside.
*Backstage, Kurt Angle announced John Cena vs. Luther Reigns for next week.
*In a Steel Cage Match, John Bradshaw Layfield defeated Eddie Guerrero. Guerrero hit a frog splash off the top of the steel cage, but was too hurt to cover him initially and Bradshaw kicked out. The finish of the match saw both men battling atop the cage. El Gran Luchadore came out and grabbed Guerrero's leg, allowing Bradshaw to reach the floor for the victory. El Gran Luchadore tried to get out of the cage but it was locked shut. He climbed back up the cage but was attacked by Guerrero. When Guerrero yanked at his mask, it was Kurt Angle under the mask.

And the WWE Title scene has officially gone down the gutter if it's gonna be JBL vs Undertaker. Unless Taker wins, which in that case it'll be totally awesome.

Yeah looks pretty good once again. The key to SD becoming slightly better is that they are giving more time to the CW's, which gives SD a chance to have 2 maybe 3 good matches on the show every week. This is the advantage that RAW has, where even if the show is booked horribly you still can hang your hat on seeing 2-3 good matches.
Anyway, if you had told me two months ago JBL was getting 3 straight wins over Eddie I would have threatened to stop watching SD altogether, but it doesn't bother me. Every win has been really cheap and hasn't hurt Eddie, and now Eddie gets a program with Kurt which should kick some serious ass. JBL moves on and likely drops the strap to Taker, and even though that kinda sucks, at least Taker is a big star and the title will seem soemwhat important because its on a credible guy.
What I really like is how they've set up tons of stuff for Angle to do upon his return. You've got Eddie, who he'll likely start fueding with over the next couple of months (I'd assume at least 2 PPVs worth of matches). After that they could go to Cena, who has beef with Angle with all the US title business going on. And then if Angle's body can hold up, and Taker is still champ, I think it would make a lot of sense to have Angle be the one who takes the title from Taker.
Looks like we'll get a new (face) GM in the next week or so on SD. Angle fired all the divas, so there's a way for the new GM to get a babyface reaction right off the bat by rehiring them. That person can also force Angle into the ring with Eddie at Summerslam and put Cena back in the US title mix with a match at Summerslam as well. I'm thinking its going to be Steph.
John H is back....thats just funny, and sad!

Finally Angle is back! Angle has been one of my favorites but him as a GM has really been bad. He's also kind of like how I feel about Austin. I can still like them, but outside of the ring they just aren't the same.

I would have liked ten-years-ago Undertaker to have a memorable title reign. At this point, the sooner he gets the belt off JBL and drops it to Eddie, Angle, Booker, or RVD, the better.

I've got a few issues...what gives with firing all the DIVAS on SMACKDOWN! They're ALREADY WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY OUTNUMBERED by the number of Divas on RAW: Let's count the lists
SD!: Torrie, Sable, Dawn Marie and Miss Jackie...impressive...N :foc: T!
RAW: Nidia, Trish, Stacy, Ivory, Gail Kim, Jazz, Molly Holly, Victoria and Lita and soon a 10th will be added.
FINAL DIVA SCORE: (After this week's SD!): A clean sweep. RAW 10, SD 0! I'm sorry but I gotta speak for the majority here (the ones who aren't YAY!ing the DIVA firing on the boards who think just the opposite) and say that once RAW gets it's future DIVA, reinstate SD!'s women and have RAW give SD! 3 Divas W/O any trades, that way both sides have a sizeable 7 DIVA's for their show. And I don't think it would be too terrible of an idea to suggest a World Women's Heavyweight Championship on RAW and a WWE Women's Championship on SmackDown! (eventually I'd like to see a belt both brands could have some control over like the Hardcore Championship...that way every once in a while at least, you could see a SD! superstar fighting the RAW Hardcore Champ for his belt or vice-versa.)
Also, who should fill the US Championship belt? I personally think that with as much as RVD has done for WWE in his career here (which isn't a lot say compared to Undertaker, HHH or Rock and/or Foley, but still... ), he should get it next, and then at the next SD! only PPV he could drop it to (and it really PAINS me to say this, but here goes...)René Duprée.
Thirdly, didn't everybody know really all along that Kurt's knee was never as bad as the writers who put together the storyline say it was? I mean c'mon for Christsakes everybody knew it wasn't anything even REMOTELY as serious as Vince would have you believe...I knew from the end of WM XX that something was up with this stupid supposed "injury". HELL, Kurt might have just as well given Eddie a freakin' SUPER ANGLE-SLAM FROM THE TOP OF THE CAGE and an ANKLE LOCK too, so Eddie could pretend his knees and ankles are "SO BAD I'LL HAVE TO QUIT, ESE!" PUH-LEEZE! someone tell the creative team to get off their asses and write some good shit for SMACKDOWN! for once.
Lastly, I think if Undertaker does win the championship at SummerSlam (which remains to be seen if the match is even made in the first place), it very well could be his last of, I THINK, personally at the most, 3 more championship runs, and I wouldn't expect to see him in WWE after say around Fall, 2006...just a random thought/rant on this last issue to close out my brief discussion (And personally I don't really see UT making it as long as I've posted above....again it's just a theory and I would expect Taker to retire either this year or next probably, but there's always the outside chance Taker will have another 2¼ years left in him, he's just the kinda guy who's been around the company so long ya just never know ANYTHING with him [except maybe if you're vince or linda mac]...UT is a true master of disguise IMHO.
End of discussion sorry it was so long...Discuss freely at will, while I take my leave. :o

Any Divas who cannot wrestle (yes, wrestle) should not be there. I wish they were fired in RL. They need to do something to make their shows better, and that'll begin when they stop catering to the Lowest Common Denominator.

Personally, I have no problem with divas as valets, but when they're just there to dance around and look hot (which has been the extent of Torrie, Dawn, and Sable's character for the last year), I'm sorry but I can get just as much excitement from watching "E!" after eleven o'clock on a weeknight, nome sane?

So what do you all think of the show so far?
jindrak
07-15-2004, 09:52 PM
IMO, Cena should be taking on Angle at SS.
Let me explain---> With the surgery, Angle probably only has a few steller matches left. Between Eddie and Cena, a feud with Angle would better help Cena. By feuding with Angle, Cena is solidifying his spot as a 'main eventer' by wrestling the elite Angle. While a WM re-match would be nice, I don't think the end result would help either wrestler. At least with Cena, Angle is putting someone over, who REALLY needs it. Over the last few months Cena's character has been stale, so a program with the charismatic Angle would definately do him good (as opposed to a program with Booker T, RVD, Rene Dupree).
Cena has been at odds with Angle since he became GM, so it would make more sense to have those two feud. In this case, Cena is taking on an authority figurehead who has furiated him. Cena has a better REASON to feud with Angle, and that is the argument I am presenting.
Angle v. Cena @ Summerslam > Angle v. Guerrero @ Summerslam.
I don't know if I just missed it, but I don't think I was ever away from the tv during the show. I didn't see the divas get fired by Angle. Don't think I missed anything anyways, but stupid of The Score here in Canada to edit it out.
