Vince said recently (sorry, can't remember where) that the Mr. McMahon character was dead, what does everybody think of this?

I personally loved Vince as the heel because he played the role of a heel very well. It basically was him and Stone Cold that got the viewers back. People like The Rock etc made sure they stayed.

But i ask you this, Mr. McMahon thumbs up or thumbs down?

:y: I give him a thumbs up. Like you said Austin and McMahon got the viewers back and I thought that Vince played the character to perfection.

Thumbs up, definitely. I mean how easy was it to hate him? with the affairs and just basically screwing everyone over.

I also liked his music, "no chance in hell"-I always thought that referred to him managing to leave a match without bleeding

I think it's better that he does quit the character. For the time, it was an excellent character, but he did get stale after a while. I think it'd be boring if every Monday night Vince came out and screwed somebody over.

Back in the day i'd give a thumbs up, but I think his character has run its course, so now I just want wrestlers to be on tv, not Ownership.

"Mr. McMahon" is a great character that has been ripped off by every single wrestling promotion with a TV show, but it is not really needed anymore. Mr.McMahon is dead and needs to stay that way. I think it really has to do (if this is true) because Mr. McMahon may not be such a stretch from the truth.

Great character and it needs to say that way or it will kill off its greatness like so many people/characters do.

I think it would be difficult to find more than a handful of people who didn't find McMahon entertaining. The problem, like everything else is that he was overused and they kept going to back to the well. And in a lot of ways the current structure (GMs) is just another incarnation of the Mr McMahon character. I wouldn't want to see him back as a regular, because I dont think there is anywhere else for them to go with it, but at the same time, everytime he comes back, ratings go up, so.

What makes you think that Vince is similar to the character that he plays on tv? I highly doubt that he is that much of an asshole in real life.

I enjoyed the Mr. McMahon character, but he took it too far sometimes (Kiss My Ass Club, Vince winning the Royal Rumble, etc.). Still, it made for good tv and I would enjoy it if he returned again.

I'm willing to bet that he IS that much of an asshole in real life, just that he can't get away with as much. He would if he could, but he can't so he won't, basically.

I enjoyed the McMahon character, but they overdid it at times. Anyway, when you find the source, please link to it.

He was a great character, and his feud with Austin was classic, but recently, he'd gotten stale. Plus, his stealing mic time and PPV time away from actual wrestlers wasn't too good either, so I'd say it's run past its course and it's good that the character is dead (if that's indeed true).

McMahon was great, and yeah I agree about him getting stale as the heel. McMahon could be a babyface too and not as "Mr. McMahon," but in the Jack Tunney sort of role where he comes out and is like, "What happened is bullshit, so I am making this match" and being the character to give the fans what they want to see. It would work well to have McMahon as the guy who steps in. I love Eric Bischoff, seriously, but he is going to get even staler than McMahon. Although he sometimes makes matches people want to see, more often than not he plays a heel, and I think we've all had enough of the heel authority figures.

:y: though if he tried to be on TV more with the gimmick :n: because while he was on it was entertaining, doing it now is overkill.

I loved the Mr. McMahon charcter... I liked how he, the owner, got physical and stuff too... Although winning the Rumble, like someone said, may have been over kill... But he was always great at it...

If they were to bring the Mr. McMahon charcter back now, it may not work unless it's tweaked alot... I dunno how they could tweak it though, because back in the day (God I feel old saying that) it was played perfectly to a T...

Like everyone have already said, I liked the character back in the day but bringing him back would suck hardcore. I like the way he appears for big matches now, but other then that stays off T.V.

Bischoff will not get stale for a while IMO, plus he is the man, you gotta love that smile.

Mr. McMahon, you loved to hate him, but you also loved him for what he did, he wasn't just an owner, he was a worker. I respect that.

At one time, the "Mr. McMahon" character was very cool. Then, like other people have said, it got tired. I would like Vince to come back on TV though, either as face or heel, even if only for a little while. I miss him.

The Mr.McMahon character was good in its time but Vince is getting old and his last few feuds sucked. Maybe Shane could take over the role. BTW When and/or is Shane returning to WWE tv?

Vince has made so many face/heel turns......but the Mcmahons have always brought controversy to the storylines, so I say keep lettin' em loose.

:y: Mr. McMahon was definitely the man, he could play any role perfectly. Some stuff he did was just vile and really wanted you to really hate him, such as the Greater Power revealed. And like every character, he has a few of his trademarks, ie. the power walk/strut, the gulp of fear.... But I really loved Vince as a face. Just those surprise returns to help out the good guy were really mark out moments. One of the biggest to me was before WM 2000 when he returned to help the Rock beat the Big Show. That was an awesome finish to a RAW.
