View Full Version : Worst Wrestlemania

There was recently a Favourite Wrestlemania thread so I have decided to make a worst Wrestlemania thread. My choice would be either WM 16 because it had a heap of s*** tag matches like T & A vs Head Cheese, D-Lo and The Godfather vs Bossman and Buchanan, the Cat vs Terri, Rikishi and Kane vs Road Dogg and X-Punk and Chyna beats up Eddie. The event had some good stuff like the triple threat match between Benoit, Angle and Y2J and there was the triple threat ladder match but other than that I thought it was quite dissappointing. I didn't really like the main event either. It was alright but as far as being the WM main event it was a bit of a dissappointment.

Another choice would be WM 13 which only had Bret vs Austin. Other than that I can't think of anything else that was good in that event besides from Taker winning the WWE title but the match was god awful.

On a side note I have just watched some of WM 16 which I bought purely for the triple threat matches that I have said above and Big Bossman tries to get into the ring and as he is climbing in he kicks the camera man by accident which I thought was quite funny :D

is WM16 the one where someone clotheslins Bossman, but because he is so fat his shirt rips open to reveal his massive gut?

WM 13 only had one match worth it, one of the greatest matches ever and worth the price of admission, but WM 13 sucked WAY WAY WAY more than WM 2000 (WM 16, but the official name was WM 2000 assholes  :shifty: )

I could never call 13 the worst of all time, because Austin-Bret was so good it could have been surrounded by Sid-Nash matches and I would still like it.

Its hard to judge the Manias from the 80s against the ones today because the workrate has gone up so much. As bad as 16 was, 2 is far worse because it had only one good match (Bulldogs-Dream Team) on the show and a lot of really bad ones. 5 was terrible, but Hogan-Savage had a lot of heat, so that saved the show.

If I were to crap on one show it would have to be 9. The concept of the show was dumb, Bret couldn't have a great match, they did the stupid Hogan title win, which was among the worst booking decisions they've ever made. Rest of the card was very uneventful, and the only good part was watching Bobby Heenan enter the arena on a camel, and that wa sin the first 10 minutes. So 9 would be the worse I'd say.

I think Wrestlemania 5 it was ranked the worst by PWI and it did have a good Main Event and a Nice I-C title match between Warrior and Rude but other than that the show was pointless

True... I kinda like 13, if only to see a younger pre-Nation Rock in a match against Rikishi before he became Phatu.

Austin-Bret was a great, great, great match. That's the only reason to see it, though.

WM2000...hmm, it had a crap opening match, but everything else was OK...

and WMXX? Come on, that was the best Wrestlemania since X-7.

Fan-wise, I'd say XX, just because they spectacularly botched the two things I was most looking forward to (the Cruiserweight Open, and the Deadman returning), but in terms of actual in-ring product, I'd say 13. Bret/Austin was amazing, but come on! One of the main-eventers shat themselves!

At first I disagreed, until I realized the only reason I liked 9 was because of the outdoor arena, so yeah 9 did suck...I did think The Headshrinkers beating each other up was cool though.

I've actually only seen from WM 15 on. So out of those I would pick WM 2000. The only match I really remember was the Triangle Ladder Match. 2000 was a good year in the WWF, but that WM just really set it apart. Plus the booking in the main event really sucked. It was the first time Foley main-evented a WM, and he was nowhere near the finish. Then we have HHH walk in the champ, and walk out the champ.

Rock vs Foley vs Big Show vs HHH
That HAD potential! It was Foley's 578049th last match, and if I recall Triple H and The Rock were fueding for quite some time before that, and main evented a few PPVs... The Show got out, then Foley got out... then I turned off the fu</u>ckin' tv for being such a let down! It came to The Rock VS Triple H, again...

Wrestlemania 16 was far from the worst. The entire show was almost devoted towards the main event; the four competing men were even show on Saturday night live. The PPV was based on the money match, and it delivered.

Wrestlemania 18 was terrible. The writers dug most of it out of their asses during the last month; the only match built up was the terrible HHH vs. jericho( mainly because Rock and Hogan stole the show, but also because the face/heel roles should have been reversed.

No question about it: Wrestlemania 9. Say what you will about the crappy ending of WM-16, or the awfulness that was Wrestlemania 2, but this one definitely takes the cake. Honestly, there's not one redeeming value on this show. You've got Ed Leslie in another of his 47 billion failed gimmicks, you've got Jim Ross in a toga, you've got the Undertaker against freakin GIANT GONZALEZ, for crying out loud. And to top it all off, you've got Hulk Hogan pulling his usual bullshit over on Bret Hart.

I can't think of a single reason to watch Mania 9 ever again (well, maybe to watch Doink clobber Bryan Adams)

Here is the low down on my views of every single WrestleMania...(ordered from worst to best)

20th WrestleMania IX
My goodness I don't even have a clue where to start with this bad boy. I have seen this WrestleMania 3 times, once live on PPV, the other at a firneds house, and a final time a few years back when I rented it. And every time, I don't know how, but it seems to get worse and worse. When the highlight of an event is Doink vs. Crush, a match that by all rights would be lucky to not be a dark match, then you know you have reached legendary sucking status.

19th WrestleMania II
After the performance of WrestleMania II I am shocked that they continued with it. A show that was taunted with terrible matches, why is this one high on the list then 9 you ask, one reason, British Bulldogs defeated Greg Valentine & Brutus Beefcake for the Tag Team Championship...and that's the end of that capture.

18th WrestleMania XI
I am sorry, but not even Shawn Michaels can carry Kevin Nash to a decent match. It also looses points for having the main event not be the Title match, but be Bam Bam vs. Lawrence Taylor. A terrible show, saved only by the Tag Title match and the Intercontinental Title match.

17th WrestleMania VII
I am sorry, but even as a child I hated Hulk Hogan, and having him face off against Slaughter wasn't entertaining...the good matches (all 4 of them) were the first four matches on the card. Rockers, Davey Boy, Hart Foundation, and Kerry Von Erich where all used up in the first hour...and everything went downhill from there. Truly not an insperational show.

16th WrestleMania X-8
I have heard that the chills in the arena when Rock and Hogan stared down were amazing, unfortunatly for most of us at home, I didn't give a shit about it. This was a sub-par WrestleMania due to the fact that Stephanie McMahon had more to do with the Main Event then Jericho did, Rock/Hogan was it's only selling points, and the only truly entertaining matches were the IC and Euro title matches (again the first matches on the card)...Kane/Kurt wasn't terrible either, just not all it could have been.

15th WrestleMania 13
Steve Austin vs. Bret Hart was just incredible, and the Tag match between Owen/Davey Boy and Mick/Vader wasn't too bad either. But unfortunatly those teo matches couldn't save it from the hell that was Sid/Taker. Not a terrible show, just not one that I would show to generate intrest in wrestling...

14th WrestleMania VI
I liked Warrior back in the day, and as a child I remember thinking it was a great match...I have come along way since then, however the little mark in me screams not to let this Mania fall under the 14th place. Rude/Snuka was good and then Hart Foundation was able to pull a decent match out of the Bolsheviks, it had alot of big names on the card, just not alot of good matches :sigh:

13th WrestleMania 2000
The hype for the 4 Corners match was great, seeing Mick Foley's 2nd retirment match was sad, and I was shocked at the Triangle Ladder Match. Odd that the only singles match was between Terri and the Kat, but we will overlook that and say that the Benoit/Angle/Jericho match was just freakin cool. A good Mania, it was hurt by some of the, shall we say, lesser matches...but fun non the less.

12th WrestleMania XX
I love Benoit, and I about cried when he won the title, and seeing Guerrero/Angle was good too...the return of the Dead Man was exciting...even if the only difference was a cowboy hat. The trouble was it was too, sloppy. It just didn't feel right. Plus the Goldberg/Lesnar match was just gastly. It gets some points because for the first time on this list, the Main Event was actualy the highlight of the show! :)

11th WrestleMania XIV
Austin wins the title (after 2 years of deserving it...see THATs what get the blood going, seeing someone FINALLY win it :)) and Shawn gave a usual great performance especially considering his injuries. Shamrock/The Rock was fun to watch, and the dumpster match (I don't care what anyone says) was very entertaining. Owen and HH had a good match, and Taker/Kane wasn't even that bad. A good Maina, just, there was nothing overly exciting about it besides the Main Event.

10th WrestleMania VIII
I choose to overlook the Sig/Hogan match and say that the WWF Title Match with Flair and Savage was GREAT. the build-up was wonderful, and the actual match was one of Randy and Ric's finest. Bret Hart and Piper for the Intercontinental Title was aces in my book, and Michaels vs. Tito was just plain fun. Plus it had the WrestleMania atomospher! Now we're getting into some GREAT Manias!

9th WrestleMania III
We of course all remember Hulk Hogan slaming Andre which at the time seemed like a miricle! But let us never forget the Ricky Steamboat/Randy Savage IC Title match. That was (for me) the highlight of III. The 6 man tag match was just awesome! Really the energy was there too. This was a classic showdown on many a levels.

8th WrestleMania XII
The Iron Man Match is probably one of, if not the best matches of WrestleMania history. Seeing Ultimate Warrior beat Hunter in 8 seconds was fun for a mark (and for us current smarks ;)), Piper/Goldust-OJ Chase scene was hilarious, the 6 man tag was decent, the Austin/Vega match wasn't anything to gush over, but for Vega it wasn't bad either....and as far as Taker/Nash goes....well...I guess every show has it's downfalls.

7th WrestleMania XV
When Austin and Rock locked up for the WWF title it was like seeing the two biggest names FINALLY (not counting their IC batlles) clash. Despite some of it being thrown together last minute (the Tag Title Match) it was still exciting. The four corners IC Match was good, the Triple Threat Hardcore match I loved, and Shane McMahon vs. X-Pac with the Hunter turn was just something that no one expected to be good...yet it all worked out and here you have the 7th best WrestleMania ever...

6th WrestleMania IV
Tournaments are good. Randy Savage winning the Title for the first time is better, and only having to see Hogan wrestle once in the tournament is the best. DiBiase and Savage had a great match to close off the night, and Bret Hart (almost) winning the Battle Royal got me going.

5th WrestleMania V
5th place goes to number 5...the Savage/Hogan ordeal climaxed in the two biggest names at the time going at it one on one for the title. The Rick Rude/Warrior match for the IC Title was actually very good for Warrior's standards, and Hennig had one of his only good matches (in my eyes) with Owen. It had the feel of WrestleMania, I just wish it was in the Trump Plaza again...oh well...

4th WrestleMania
The grand-daddy of them all starts. The matches of the night weren't what you would call 5 star classics, but the life of WrestleMania, the energy, the excitment, all of it lead you to feel like this was the biggest thing to ever happen (and for Wrestling...it was). It gets the 4th place slot becuase it was the first, and well, nothing beat the original...or does it...

3rd WrestleMania XIX
I don't know what it was, but that Mania just sticks to me like something I like. I can't recall a single match match (even the Women's and the Handicap wern't bad). Down side was the Miller Light girls, but here that just meant I had time to go take a piss. Angle/Lesnar was just awesome, minus one botched move :shifty:, The Rock/Austin was the best it had ever been, T vs. H was enjoyable (until the ending), and even Hogan and McMahon did alright. Plus Michael/Jericho was a true ring enjoyer's wet dream. It had everything, just a great show.

2nd WrestleMania X
Owen Hart vs. Bret Hartv was worth the Mania title alone, through in the Michaels/Hall Ladder Match, the fact that Bret goes on to win the Title, and you have one of the finer shows ever produced. Some might say that maybe I put X to high on the list, but trust me, to see Bret win the Title and get picked up on everyone's shoulders....ahhhhhh...that's what wrestling used to be. AND it had Owen/Bret...so shut your months winny bitches!

And the best WrestleMania ever...

WrestleMania X-Seven
Great fu</>cking show! I may be biased based on the fact that I was there (4th row biatches! :)) but it just kicks ass. Austin turning and joining McMahon was a flat out shock to me (I expected Rock would join)...the matches where all good. TLC II was like watching porn (in the good way I mean), Jericho/Regal....Triple Threat Hardcore Title was hilarious...The Undertaker and Triple H had a match of the year calibar...Angle and Benoit kick ass...the McMahon street fight was both Shane's and Vince's best match (not saying much I know...but still)...even the Gimmick Battle Royal got all of us old guys entertained. Really. Ivory and Chyna was the lowest point of the show, but that didn't last more then a minute or so anyway, so one minute out of the entire show isn't a bad sign.

So there...that is the list of the worst...and best...Manias.
