Today I came across a young chap whose name escaped me. When I asked him, he replied, "Joe." For the strangest reason, I immediately answered back rather cleverly, "Just Joe?" The rest of the conversation was a blur....I nodded my head a lot and smiled. I became frozen, trying to dig out that whisp of a memory I have left of where the HELL that came from. A few minutes later, I had my answer: Joe...Just Joe.
Well, I remember seeing the guy, and I suppose that was a start...but I didn't want to jump to the conclusion that he was a wrestler. I began doing some research and found everything. That is, I found everything there is to find about the guy on the internet, which surprisingly sums up to 555 pages with a slight mention of his name or gimmick. Still, considering the subject it wasn't a bad start.
So that brings me to the topic at hand: Here we have a guy whose gimmick is to walk up to you, tell you that so-in-so has been talking smack about you, then laugh it up when the two of you duke it out. But it didn't end there. Actually, my first memory of "Just Joe" was one of "Damn! The WWE writers don't even bother to give these jobbers names anymore. This guy's gonna lose." but he didn't. He WON! I was delighted in this guy, and I wanted more. Unfortunately, as I was saying, his gimmick didn't end there. Soon he was turned insane, babbling to himself (as if we haven't seen an insane guy before) and he became the jobber that I had once envisioned him as, just by hearing his name. Perhaps his gimmick was too short term. Perhaps Vince wanted to see more poop jokes inserted into the shows and the creative staff was forced to focus less on Joe and more on entertaining Vince.
That's where I leave you all. What are your memories of "Just Joe"? Was he cut out for the WWE? Would you rather see gimmicks like this return, or are you satisfied with lightning bolts hitting the ringposts? Pictures? Is Joe really gay?
Unfortuately, my research didn't go too far, as I got interested in other wrestlers like Chris Hero, et al....so give me feedback here. I don't care anymore on whom.
