For so long I thought that no X-men game would match up to the kick ass 6 person arcade game. I think this one might though!!
It's an action/RPG hybrid. Meaning, it's a walk through beat em up type game, but your characters can level up. It's 1 or 2 players to boot!
The general set up of it all is....
For each mission you choose a team of 4 X-men. Each of course, with their own strengths and weaknesses. By leveling up you get points to customize your stats. For instance, Colossus ALWAYS gets a point in strength, but you can use your other points to raise his speed as well to have a speed demon that can squash anything.
In addition to this, you get points to level up your powers as well. IE: You can level up Storm's lightning, wind, or ice abilities. So the characters are pretty customizable. Unfortunately, the characters are in their new Ultimate uniforms to start out in (boo!), but, it is rumored you can unlock other costumes. A couple pictures have been released of the x-men in their 60's out fits. We are being promised 40+ hours of gameplay!!
There are a total 15 X-men to play as in the game, although not all of them have been released. Wolverine, Cyclops, Colossus, Storm, Nightcrawler, Ice Man, Gambit (w00t), Magma, Beast, Jean/Phoenix.
Marrow, Jubilee, and Arch Angel are rumored to be in.
That's about all I can remember off the top of my head. There are a few video's of gameplay up at Gamespot. I'm suprised this game isn't getting more coverage in game mags. It looks to easily be the best super hero game ever.
