no one made this so I will,

Budokai 3, developed by DIMPS, will take fans back to the Dragon Ball universe where they can continue to follow the Buu Saga and battle some of the most powerful enemies in the DBZ world.

"From the outset, our goal was to work closely with FUNimation to faithfully recreate the Dragon Ball Z experience for video game consumers," said Nancy MacIntyre, vice president of Marketing for Atari's Beverly studio. "By adhering to that very high standard, we are prepared to deliver a new array of different and exciting DBZ games."

"Atari has taken Dragon Ball Z to new heights in the interactive industry. The majority of our fan base craves video games that satisfy not only their DBZ fandom, but also their need for a great game," said Gen Fukunaga, president of FUNimation Productions, Ltd. "Atari has the experience and know-how to successfully combine both of these elements and deliver great DBZ games to the market place."

Of course, you can look forward to full coverage of both the new DBZ in the near future. Stay tuned.

Well, I love DBZ, and the budokai games have been decent thus far. However, the thing that really plagues the game for me is the obscene amount of recycled moves. Like Frieza and Dabura having the same throw. and countless other events of characters sharing the same moves. This is lame!!! There is no reason everyone can't have unique moves. Sure, the pics and vids released thus far are pretty shocking. The characters look great, the auaras have been given a massive overhaul, flying at free will, the teleportation move we have seen Goku do, not to mention the amount of characters the game will feature. But, all this does not make up for the lack of gameplay that the fighting engine has.

Instead of trying to release a new DBZ game every year, Dimps should take a year off and really work on the engine of the game. Because from what I have seen, nothing has changed in that department.

Supposedly (and I can't confirm this), Budokai 3 will contain Broly, Cooler, and most of the villains from Dragonball GT...

I know Broly and Cooler are confirmed, but I can only hope for the GT villains/heroes..I mean, Super Saiyan 4 is in..Why shouldn't Bebi, Super 17, etc. be in it?

Bebi = Ratings. :cool:

Edit: They better have Metal Cooler. That's all I know.

See, I was thinking the same thing. But, Dimps said that for the most part they are trying to add in movie characters and not DBGT characters. But I agree, then why have SSJ4?

They should make an RPG that spans the entire original DB series, a figher that has a story that spans all of DBZ and finally another fighter (possibly with a different engine) that spans the movies and GT.

there was a couple of RPG games (on the Super Famicom) that spanned the entire DB series...

Yeah, exactly. It's like making a taco and leaving the meat out. I've heard numerous places that say GT will be in, but I don't believe anything until it's from Dimps or Atari, really.

Yeah, Funky, that'd own. What'd be even better was if you could pick your own party members instead of going by the series...I mean, like...If you wanted to have Majin Vegeta, Bebi, and Super 17 in a party, I think that'd rock.

Either go exactly the way the story went as in the first game with cut scenes and all, or go completely in the other direction with a totally open ended game. I hated Dragon World on Budoki 2

xey
08-05-2004, 06:32 PM
I didn't mind Dragon World so much...The loading times sucked. I -will- admit that. I thought the story was neat though, the way they had Frieza flee earth after you beat him then..

But yeah, it doesn't beat story mode at all. I wish they'd gone through the Saiyaman/Buu storymodes.

They need to make the appearence less cartoonish. That's my BIG problem. Adding Brolli and Koola is nice, but the game still looks like shit.

Then the game officially looks like shit, again.

You'd think the people could make the game look decent by the third attempt..

What's wrong with this statement?

What's wrong with this statement?

The fact I'm asking them to make a decent looking game without sticking to the poor-ass graphics they used in II, or retrogressing back to the graphics from I? It be nice to see a game of DragonBall that isn't so fucking cartoonish, even if the show is.

*huff*

Looks aren't every thing.

Fryza
08-06-2004, 02:35 AM
Looks aren't every thing.

No, but the 2D look is horrible. It was in the last game. I've never been a fan of Budokai, but when it comes to video games, looks make up about half the game. A little more depending. If the game shows no signs of graphical improvement, a lot of people won't care. It's basically just Budokai v2.5.

SuperSlim
08-09-2004, 03:39 PM
I gotta agree with my man Fryza on this thing.

Budokai hasn't really been producin much of anything.

I got the first one, and the second one. I mena I'm not too fond of either one. I enjoy DBZ, DB, and DBGT but the games blow.

And really since we are talkin about a PS2 system and the such, graphics is half of what counts. I mean if you want cartoonish looks then go back to SNES or something.

It'd be nice to see SSJ4, Brolly, and Cooler. But if Bebi isn't gonna be on it, or Super 17... mainly Bebi then the game isn't really worth it. SSJ4 without Bebi = stuffed teddy bear with no stuffing. They don't exist without the other.

I reall yhave gotten tired of the 2D look and was really lookin forward to a better look. If the fighting isn't improved when I rent this game then there is no way that I'm buyin this one like I did the other two.

So, basically we want to take a game, that is based on an anime, and make it have realistic graphics, like say.... Tekken?

Out of all the characters in the DBZ world the one I want to see in this game is Pan. I think it woud be funny to see Pan kicking Brollys ass. Does anyone know if Pan will be in this one.

Games developers are so fond nowadays(I sound like an old man) of genre merging a dragonball RPG/Adventure/Fighting game would have been my way had I have been the atari guys. Like everytime you fight tekken or beatem up style you level up and that how you become supersayjin. And in the dragon ball world there would be so much to do. Torijima could even write more side stories to bulk out the game if the mains stories are enough (which I would with over 200eps and 15 or some movies to work though)

I just read about a bunch of characters that are in it and besides the obvious from the pictures you also get all the ones from 1 and 2 plus they are adding in Dragonball GT Super Saiyon 4 Goku,, Super Saiyon 4 Vageta and Super Saiyon 4 Gogeta..I forgot the others but those seemed like the only ones that mattered.

My wish list:
Every character in the DBZ/GT universe available.
Open ended fusions (Brolly/Cell = God)
Chapter based story mode from part one, including those nice what-if chapters.
Tag mode...
...Team battle for the matter.
Character creation anyone..?

One of these days, I hope that these guys lose the DBZ liscense just so everyone can see how shit their fighting games really are

The fighting system won't last on any other terms; but they are expecting young kids to play. They don't need or want to make it Tekken/Soul Calibur deep. Give 'em a break.

Well, it's not Atari's fault. Dimps makes the game, Atari just publishes the games in the U.S. They actually have very little to do with how the game plays out.

I really wish Dimps would lose the liscense to someone else. I want a real DBZ game, I'm tired of the kiddy shit. Most anime fans are over the age of 17, so why they gear the games towards 6 year olds is beyond me. I would love to see Capcom or Namco take over the series.

EDIT- Oh yeah, and Gamepro released a new video on their website. I'll try to find the link....

Most DBZ fans ARE kids. Hence why it goes on all the kids channels over here and there are some older fans but mainly they don't go above 6

And I disagree that "kiddy" games shouldn't be complex. Allegedly, the Gamecube is a big kiddys console with kiddy games. Mario Sunshine is complex :D

If you've ever seen the Japanese versions of DBZ, you know it's anything but kiddy. The U.S. edits them to hell and back.

If you've ever seen the Japanese versions of DBZ, you know it's anything but kiddy. The U.S. edits them to hell and back.
Yeah, but for some reason the games have always been kiddy. Even the RPG for the NES

Those screens are nice and all, but I want some info on the gameplay. I'm tired of characters like Dabura and Frieza sharing the exact same throws. It's pretty lame. Not to mention the lack of combos per character.

There's a really good chance the gameplay will remain part 2-ish. Playing as Broly is still gonna be the shit.

After two generations of lacking Dragon Ball fighting games (games with plenty of consumer demand), you might guess that Atari would finally buckle down and churn out one for the fans, a Dragon Ball Z fighting game to end all Dragon Ball Z fighting games. Atari's been recently proud to showcase their latest attempt at doing justice the epic battles betwixt Goku, Freeza, and the rest of the DBZ cast, Dragon Ball Z Budokai 3. After spending some time with the game hands-on at Game Stars Live in London, I've come away unimpressed.

The simplistic yet flashy battle system has the potential to be a lot of dumb fun. The straight forward button layout gives two basic attacks (kick and punch), along with a ki blast and block button. There are plenty of short combos to perform in a dial-a-combo fashion, though they're all pre-determined combinations and don't really allow freedom for innovation. Even worse, most of the combos are virtually the same—since there are no high and low attacks to worry about, you'll likely only concern yourself with the most damaging combo you find.
A ki meter adds a bit of complexity to the otherwise stale combat. While holding down the guard button, tapping back twice starts charging the ki bar. Using the ki bar energy, a number of projectile attacks can be lobbed at enemies, which can be dodged by simply stepping into the foreground or background, or deflected with timed presses of the guard button. The system itself is well designed enough, but it's really the controls that drag down what could be pretty fun.

No matter which character is at play, the controls feel uncomfortably stiff and unresponsive. It could be the fault early code, but right now the game doesn't flow as well as it obviously wants to. When things magically do go right, the fighting of Budokai 3 closely resembles the insane battles of the animated series, with flashy attacks that smash opponents into walls and across gaping chasms. But due to the stiff controls, most battles end up riddled with awkward moments of jerky steps and button-mashy combat that don't feel right within the Dragon Ball Z universe.

It's certainly not the basic concepts holding back Budokai 3. The simplistic set-up could provide a subtle depth if only the controls would lose their rigidity. With a more fluid control system, the combat system that's already implemented could be fully realized and lead to some interesting fighting. We'll keep you posted as we near the game's release later this year.

sorry there are no new pics this time

Ok, I wasn't holding my breath waiting for another disappointing game.... However.. I stumbled upon some gameplay videos from that showing in Cali. I must say, I am highly impressed with these.

The video quality isn't great, but you will get the idea....
