Wow. Just saw this. Awesome movie. Cruise and Foxx are good stuff. Great direction by Mann, really takes in L.A. well. Music is sweet too as is the action. The dialogue between Foxx and Cruise is great. Loved it.

I'm curious, is it more of an action movie, or more of a psychological movie?

It's pretty generic in terms of its action movie formula but beneath the basic plot is a really well written character study with the coolness of L.A. at night as the background. Mann is great at making a kickass action movie while still keeping the focus on the characters. There's a great focus on Foxx's character's inner struggle has he is being forced to drive Cruise around, and you don't at anytime feel like he could get out of it. The only thing you can do is watch him react and know that he didn't have much of a choice.

It's not the greatest movie ever or anything, and sure it has it's minor flaws but I don't feel they detract much from the film, if at all. It's a very well made solid film. I think I would classify it as an action movie though. Prolly one of the best movies this summer. Funny too.

Cruise is just so cool in it.

Prolly one of the better movies this year, so far.

Thanks. I'm planning on checking it out...

As for Cruise, I think he's pretty much always a great actor. I hate it when people claim he's just a pretty boy actor, because he has depth, and a shitload of it.

Word. He really is great in anything he does. He was the only thing I enjoyed in Magnolia.

I think his character in Magnolia ranked up there with Denzel's in Training Day... And what was up with those fucking frogs?

The second act sorta gets a bit unrealistic, yeah. But for me anyway, it didn't detract much from the film itself.

Yea go on a Sunday night and pretend you are gonna buy a ticket at the booth but instead just take a right (or left depending which side) before you get to the booth and just walk in. Dont walk in straight at hte doors though (like towards the concession stand) because there is an Usher usually standing there

But its ridiculously easy to get by, I actually ducked under the rope becuase the line was mad long at the ticket booth and nobody even said anything to me

Haha. Nice. I collect a.k.a. just keep in my wallet the ticket stubs though so that'd be my only reservation.

Maybe if I do a double header sometime.

I really liked it.

Tom Cruise had slipped way down my list after "Minority Report," but "Last Samurai" and "Collateral" have launched him back up to his post-"Few Good Men" heights in my mind.

The direction was incredible, and Jamie Foxx gave easily the best performance of his career. After years of really disliking everything he's been in, he is growing on me, and I'm actually looking forward to "Ray."

The movie is intense, all the bit actors (Mark Ruffalo, Javier Bardem, Bruce McGill, Jada Pinkett, etc.) do very good jobs with what are essentially fractions of a script dominated by Cruise and Foxx. The music sets the stage so well that, after seeing the movie, I had to run right out and buy the soundtrack.

It's very funny at times and hard to watch at others. The mark of a great thriller, in my opinion, is its ability to break up the intensity with a moment of levity so that the intensity packs more of a punch. Mann accomplishes this so well.

I'd give it a very high eight out of ten, bordering on a nine. Could have been a ten with some tweaks to the third act.

The movie was fantastic until the end. The end fucking blows.

Spoiler in Black

The Happy Max becomes the Hero and saves the day endingfelt so fucking forced it pissed me off. This was not a happy heroic movie, this was a gritty depressing movie, fuck the happy ending. The guy shouldn't get the girl, the loving couple should not walk off having vanquished the evil fuck that hollywood rah rah average joe becomes a hero and beats the odds to win bullshit. I appreciate the irony of him dying on a subway car and all but fuck, this is how the end should have gone. Vincent kills the girl walks off scott free and Jamie Foxx gets arrested for all 5 murders. It had the build up for that yet they fucked it up, they fucked it up bad. Grrr.

I'll give it an 8.5 out of 10 but without the fucking crap ending it would be 10 easily. Cruise was awesome
