My Gamecube's been crapping out lately, I just rented Madden 2005 and now as soon as the memory card finishes loading, I get the error message. I think my disc reading is screwed, cuz it just seems to load, then it clicks a few times, then stops and the message appears.
I've had my GC since Christmas of the year it first came out, I've never had any problems with any of my consoles. Heck, my SNES had a lava lamp fall on it, causing a large crack, but it still works fine.

Hmmm, my mate's had his cube a couple of years, and it fucked up a couple of months ago.

I dunno, mine works fine :$
Does it only do it for Madden? Maybe your game's scratched or something? :?:

I've had my cube for a little over a year and it's fine. But considering that I don't play it for 10 months of the year, that's not surprising. It did crap out for a few hours one time after it was stored in an attic for 3 months, but that was because it's pretty moist up there.
As far as I know with disc read errors, your game not your cube is the problem. Do other games still work? Did your cube get dropped recently? Is your game dirty/scratched?

What RDD said. Check the surface of the disc.
I've only had a problem with one game, and that game (Rebel Strike) was one many people had the exact same problem with, so I don't think it was the GC's fault. This fucker's been mad reliable.

Yeah, that's what I figured too. When I rent Wrestlemania XIX from this one particular video store it does exactly that.
*loading, lots of clicking, title screen, craps out*

Mine spazzed out a couple of times on MSG twin snakes, and a few times on NHL 2004, and once on Zelda collectors edition, with the same error every time.
In the GC manual, it tells you to turn the power off and unplug the console. :|
I dunno, pretty weird.

You just need to make sure that you aim away from your cube when you pop your load over awesome games.

Can't say I have.
Had a couple of disc read erros with my Xbox, but nothing with my gc.

No, this has been happening all the time.
It first started regularly when I was playing MegaMan2 on the MegaMan collection, it's done it on Rogue Leader, and on Soul Calibur 2 - first the music stopped, then about a minute late the error message came up.
It's just with Madden yesterday, this is the worst I've had. Usually with other games, I play for a while then it occurs.
I'll try some of my other games today, that I haven't played for a long time.
Just a month ago I started having problems with my GameCube. It wouldn't read Eternal Darkness, and it would only worked after opening and losing the case several times. Later, the problem started showing with my new copy of The Legend of Zelda: The Four Swords and Super Smash Bros. Melee. I've had the GameCube since around the time Super Mario Sunshine came out, and it's the first time I've had that problem.
Ironically, as soon as I thought of exchanging my system at Best Buy (my warranty expires about now), the system magically started working again. Coincidence? I don't really want to know.
