Saw the movie and don't worry people; the explosion in the trailors is NOT the end of the movie, though it was a kick-ass scene.
AvP is fair in that both core fans will have to get used to some changes to their 'creature'. Minor spoilor warning here; the Predators are damn near the size of Big Show and they obviously bought their gear from the "Bigger is Better" store. All their stuff are like twice the size of what you've seen before. And the popular shoulder cannon doesn't make a single shot until well into the movie. Other than that, Predator fans are going to love one particular one by the end of the movie, and not because of a certain kick-ass move executed to the Alien Queen. Predator fans be warned, this isn't the gore fest of past stuff. Same goes to Alien fans. And speaking of Aliens...
Fans of Aliens will do nothing but love these bastards. They're far more deadly than past incarnations, and being the underdog in many school yard AvP discussions, you'd be shocked at how much of a challenge they are to pumped up weapon laced Predators. The first battle scene is a slap in the face for all Predator fans and a kiss in the ass for the Alien camp to put it bluntly.
For the six people actually rooting for the humans, please take the tagline very seriously. We die left and right; except for the cliche surviving chick.
As far as the 'Versus' movie genra is going, now two films in, you can see certain rules being set in place. As with Freddy vs Jason, both back histories are explored. The Alien should be taken with a grain of salt or pure genious: This film takes place in 2004, whereas the first Alien took place in the future; making this situation the first encounter between man and Xenomorph. Which could be used to explain how Weyland interprises even knew of it's existance going into the plot of the first movie. Lucky tie-in or genious plot connector; it's up to you. We see alot of how the Predators ran things, and as it turns out, they been around for a while.
AvP is a cool fun summer film, nuff said. Don't compare it past stuff, it's obviously making exceptable changes to make the worlds fit. No Arnold, no Danny, and no Sigorney. This movie put live action to alot of fan's imaginations just as Freddy vs Jason did, and I like it. BTW, don't leave until it's over-over; many people in my theater missed a special appearance by what some have already dubbed, the Predalien. Cute lil thing.

Yea the very end was the best part. I loved that little guy. Everytime we even mention a baby or something like that, that little thing pops into my head. I have a good feeling that this one will do good enough for them to make a sequel. And even though this one had a PG-13 rating it was still good. Maybe they will start something new and realize that movies dont have to be gory as hell to make them good. Cant wait for a sequel to this one.

LOL, it was pretty bad. The fighting was entertaining, but other than that it was bad.

Haven't heard too much positive stuff about this yet. But then again, it's a movie called ALIEN VS PREDATOR. Still gonna check it out.

Saw it last night, and read the novelization today.
The good:
-The fight sequences are very physical, and pretty evenly balanced. Thank God they didn't make it like the comics, where the Predators are virtually godlike and the Aliens can't even get a hit in.
-For once, Paul Anderson didn't fill the movie up with corny techno-metal during the action scenes.
-Damn, the Queen looked awesome!
The Bad:
-Most of the characters died way too quickly to get attached to any of them. Within the first ten minutes of action, we're already down to two humans and one Predator.
-I hated the design for these Predators' faces. I'm not sure why they decided Predators need gigantic chins, but whatever.
-The whole idea of using the Aliens' body parts as weapons seemed really campy to me. Especially when Lex was wearing the Alien's head on her arm.
-I wasn't too crazy about the temple constantly reconfiguring itself. Made it seem too video-game-ish.
The Ugly:
-The movie is way, way, WAY too short. Just when it seemed the action was starting to pick up, the movie was over. There just seemed to be lots of stuff that should have been in there, but came up missing, particularly a confrontation between the lead Predator and the net-scarred Alien. Fox had Anderson cut his original script down by a good half-hour, and take out the more gory sequences in order to get the PG-13 rating. This is especially evident in the novelization, which has just about all of the things I thought were missing. There'd better be a ton of extras when the DVD comes out.
Overall, Anderson managed to make a movie that wasn't a complete slap in the face, but should have been way better. AvP fans ought to read the novel, because it's got tons of stuff that didn't make it into the movie, and explains a lot of things (like why the Predators left their laser cannons deep inside the temple) Typical popcorn fluff on the whole, but it had its fun moments. It could have been worse, but it could have been much better, too.

I actually liked it a lot. It isn't as good as the first Predator or any of the Alien movies, but it was savage. Apart from some inconsistancy errors I caught onto, it prooved worthy in my book.
I could see where they bit off concepts from the AvP comics, like introducing Lex into the hunt and the tribal markings. That made me happy because I was a huge fan of the comic books. Also, it was pretty interesting they integrated the actor who played Bishop from Aliens into the movie. Gives you the idea that years from AvP they built an android in Weyfield's likeness.
Although.. things I could've done without... the Matrix'esque fight scenes. Where they would slow down the shot and spin around and shit... yeah, its definately played out by now. And they definately killed off the other two Predators too soon. I would have had more members of the crew in the hive to ensure more Aliens, that would've proven for better fight scenes.

Saw it last night, it was pretty mediocre imo. As soon as I started thinking it was going to pick up and be really action packed, they blew up the friggin temple thing. I thought the move was just about to get good, but little did I know it was almost over. It was overall pretty predictable. For example, as soon as the predator marked Lex, I thought to myself, "yep, he's about to die."
I wasn't bored during the movie, which is a plus. However, the sudden ending and the predictability brought this movie down a few notches. I'd give it a 5/10.

Saw it last night, I enjoyed it. It was far better than I had anticipated, but that's not saying it's super - amazing.

Yeah me too. I went in expecting it to straight suck, but I was pleasently suprised. I hope we get a director's cut DVD though. It just didn't feel the same without blood and guts flying everywhere.

To be honest, the title of the movie gives away all major plot points.

The scene that got unexpected laughes at my theater was the Predator-King dude turning away from Lex in semi slow motion; flinging his dreads like, "I'm better than this bitch." And for some reason, people liked the neck-snap on the baby 'serpent'.

Yea, the people in my theatre laughed like crazy at the baby neck snap thing. The only other part that got a lot of laughter was the, "How do you say scared shitless in italian?" line.

A little update: during a recent interview, Anderson expressed his annoyance about Fox's constant cutting of the movie, and slapping the early release date on him. Also, he confirmed that there will be an R-rated Director's Cut, with quite a few more on-screen kills and a whole entire subplot that had to be cut from the theatrical release.
You can take a look at the article here:

Not entirely sure how legit it is, but it's worth a read.

The part that got the most laughs in our theatre was when Predator killed the Alien that was climbing on the wall like it was nothing. He just swiped his little blade thing and it was dead. Great moment when you thought something big was gonna happen.

Just saw it. Pretty bad, but it was entertainingly bad. The human/Predator teamup, although done in comics, just looked bad on screen. Like Smitty said, it was hilarious when they were running from the explosion. And when the Predator and her were riding that sled/cart thing out of the pyramid, HILARIOUS.
Hopefully the DVD will make it significantly better.
Thing about P.W.S. Anderson is, I think he is passionate about what he does and a big movie fan, but he just isn't that good at the execution of his projects.
Overall though, it was definitely nice to see these two sci-fi icons on screen again.
