View Full Version : Port Forwarding for BT

Does anyone know what ports I should forward for the best speeds on BitTorrent? I usually get like 7-10kb/s on a cable modem...that can't be right. Also, do the ports change based on the program or do all BT's use the same ports?

There are some basic ports, but some programs do differ.

What program are you using? And have you installed XP SP2?

I use both Shareaza and BitTornado. NovaTorrent doesn't work for me

Try BitComet

http://www.bitcomet.com/

Designed for speed over features.

It may be the torrents you're getting though, they may just not be fast.

But if you DID install XP SP2, it allows 10 connections per port only, which would explain the slow d/ls

Have you tried Nova Torrent 0.2.0? How does that compare to this bit comet?

I get speeds like 360K/s with NT.

Also, SP2 is finally out? 'Bout time.

My Downloads seem to be at 0kb/s most of the time, every once in a while going up to 3 or 4. This is pretty gay. I tried alot of different torrents too....bjkiewfjwioepghi

Service Pack 2.

BTW, who is your ISP? Do you get fast downloads with other programs?

I get fast DL speeds when I download off the internet (download.com etc...) but p2p programs just rape me. My ISP is Comcast

My ISP is also Comcast. Didn't you get the doubled speed a few months ago like everyone else? Since then, my p2p d/ls have been lightning fast.

Buzzy, are you connected to the Net via a router? That kills your speed.

Yeah I am, port forwarding means opening up certain ports in your router, allowing for faster speeds

Credo told me to open Port 6882.

See, BitTorrent uses a range of ports, not just one. Mine is currently using all ports from 6890-7881 inclusive.

Like Funky Fly, I would reccomend novatorrent (www.novatorrent.com) because then you can pick your ports in the options so you'll know which ones to forward :)

Some ISPs have started blocking those port numbers to try and cut down on BT or general P2P traffic though...
