Well, enjoy it while it lasts, because I guaran-freaking-tee his momentum will be at a dead stop by Survivor Series. It's Brock Lesnar all over again, except without the being-a-whiny-bitch stuff.

SIG UPDATE :D

Nowhere Man
08-16-2004, 01:02 AM
Orton is not Brock Lesnar. God, shut up.

-Received major push way before his skills could catch up with him as a heel
-Took out established wrestling legend (Lesnar/Hogan; Orton/Foley)
-Feuded with the Intercontinental Champion and lost (Lesnar/RVD; Orton/Edge)
-Won the World Title at the next PPV

See a pattern emerging? Deny it all you want, they're pushing Orton in the exact same way as Lesnar, Goldberg, the Ultimate Warrior, et al. Whether or not he's better than them doesn't change the fact that he's being lined up as just the new "Quick Champ Du Jour"

true, but Lesnar got pretty much the same reactions in his Title win over the Rock.

the only problem with putting the title on Brock and Randy is that. at 25 and 24 years old (respectively) you burn them out in their options of storylines. How many times can you have a meaningful title fued/run.

Like Brock, he was so boring at the time right before he left. There really isnt much for him to continue to do in the WWE and shit, he's only 26 now.

Orton Rules.

- Does anybody realize that Randy has done more with the name Orton than his Grandpa or Dad did with it combined?

HAHA that Dodgeball match was the most pointless peice of shit in WWE (and WWF)history.

On the plus side there were some good matches, noticeabley the Benoit Vs Orton and Angle Vs Guerro. That diving headbutt through the ropes was the shit. Glad they both had clean and fair finishes.

Pretty obvious that soon enough Lita will fall for Kane and hate Matt and stuff.

HHH having to win by the help of Flair made him look pretty bad, and I for one can't stand the amount of times Evolution interfere to help each other, at first it was a good way of getting heat, but now it makes them all look shit.

08-16-2004, 01:29 AM
Well, I just got back from watching Summer Slam, and it was very interesting to say the least. First of all, the crowd. They basically shit all over the Eugene/HHH match as well as the Undertaker/JBL match. As for JBL/Taker, I have never seen a crowd do the freaking wave, while the event was actually going on. And Eugene basically got booed out of the building.

The legend killer strikes again. I'm still shocked. I was pulling for Orton, but I thought for sure Benoit was gonna retain, especially being in Canada. But the Orton era has begun in a big way. And by the handshake at the end, looks to be a face era.

Diva Dodgeball was a lot dumber than I thought it would be. I didn't even see Carmella there. Eddie/Angle, was glad to see Angle pull that off. JBL retains by DQ. Wasn't expecting Edge to retain but he did. Didn't even expect Cena to win round 1 of the best of 5. We all know it will go down to 5 anyways, so this really isn't that important.

While the push may be the same, Orton is different from Lesnar in the fact that Orton came onto Raw in January 2003 (from what I remember, anyway. He came in as part of Evolution which started at that time), and didn't get the monster push until now, a time span of about 19 months, possibly more if he was there before. Lesnar came out of OVW in March 2002, and won the title in August 2002.

While you can say the circumstances of their title wins are similar, you can't say it was exactly the same. Lesnar didn't have a 9 month IC Title reign, and was in WWE for a lot less time than Orton. I'm sure there are more differences besides that.

Anyways, I'm looking forward to Raw, and Orton as the champion. Makes me wonder what feud WWE has lined up for him.

Pretty good PPV. I was even impressed with JBL/Taker, better than I expected but nothing too good either. Basically not a total suckfest.

Angle/Eddie was great. Enjoyed it very much.

Benoit's suicide dive into the barrier was nasty. Benoit is my favorite and even though I didn't want him to lose, I don't mind Orton holding it. Should be interesting.

Pretty good PPV I thought. Hope RAW is good and especially with Evolution stuff. I hope it's not just HHH/Evolution pretending to be happy for Orton for the next couple weeks. Just start something now.

True true. I think Orton will be fine. But I believe he actually debuted on Smackdown of 02, around the same time as Cena. They were just promoting him as the rookie 3rd generation superstar. He didn't really do much of anything there.

Then in the late fall/early winter he moved to RAW. That's how I remember it.

Explain to me how Benoit is not boring? Same fucking routine over and over again, shitty catchphases "Prove me Wrong", and he has NO CHRISMA! None!

To purists, Benoit is a god. To the fans who "APPRECIATE PURE WRESTLING" Benoit is a god. I loved Benoit when he was in WCW and for the most part in the WWF/WWE but I cant stand watching him anymore.

The same shitty "germans" (suplexs), going for the crossface. Its tired.

Plus there is a reason why The Rock has 7 WWE Title Reigns while Benoit has only 1. Because he has the Chrisma, the Mic Skills AND THE WRESTLING ABILITY!

So suck my balls, Kane Knight.

Indeed, Benoit can do a great "intense" promo. He may not be able to do comedy worth shit or anything like that. But you look at Benoit heading into WM XX. Those were good "intense" promos.

Benoit and CHRIS FUCKING JERICHO are wrestling gods. So Sensai, I know I'm going to get heat for this but I don't give a fuck:

Shut Up You Ignorant Ass!

Mr. Steele, did I ever say anything bad about Y2J Chris Jericho? Umm, No. Why not? Because CHRIS JERICHO FUCKING KICKS ASS. HE HAS the Chrisma, the Mic Skills and the Ability.

I dont see Benoit hosting "The Highlight Reel", do you?

I respect Benoit and Jericho both for their abilities. But Benoit is boring to watch.

y2j is god!! I just hope the one chance ol' Lionhart gets a shot at the World title isn't against RKO now because knowing the writers now, they're all Orton right now.

And as for Benoit, he can wrestle just about anyone into a good match. But yes,he become uninteresting especially for the bad writing. It just reeked of Jericho's Undisputed run but just not as bad. After all, J played the background character to Steph, hhh, and the dog and he was supposed to be the main event guy with hhh.

Well I just got back from the show and it was incredible.Considering I had never gone to a WWE event ever it will always stay close to my heart. The matches were great except the taker/jbl match which was kinda boring, hell they started doing the wave in the ACC.Best match was definetely the Orton/Benoit match and after I saw Orton hit the RKO and get the 3 count I stood up and cheered for nearly ten minutes. You would not believe how many Evolution fans their were. All the Orton/Evolution T-shirts were sold out.I wanted to get that Legend Killer shirt with the check marks but no luck. Some moron from the crowd jumped onto the JBl limo as soon as Taker got Dq'ed and was promptly tackled by about 5 security guards.Their were massive cheers for Orton and everyone appuled him afterward.

Some strange events transpired where I was sitting including some dude saying hulk hogan was bitch which prompted some dude sitting beside him with a hulkmania shirt to take offense.A fight nearly broke out.During the Orton/Benoit match some dude said he would bet anyone Benoit would win with the crossface about two minutes before the match ended. As soon as the three count went down after the Rko he ran out as fast as he could.Edward Scissorhands looking fool

SummerSlam was gr... wait, what the hell was wrong with that crowd? Aside from the Angle/Guerrero and Orton/Benoit match, I had a hard time paying attention to the matches.

Six Man Tag - I'm happy to say that I liked a match involving the Dudleyz that didn't suck, and that isn't a TLC. On the other hand, my liking the match was 99% thanks to the trifecta of Rey Mysterio, Billy Kidman and Paul London. They did a magnificent job with keeping the match fast paced, which is a hard thing to do against guys like Buh-Buh and D-Von. This is yet another example of why the WWE should incorporate more cruiserweight matches on SmackDown! tapings. Too bad that "the bad guys" won, but it's of little concern when the match was that fun to watch.

Matt Hardy vs. Kane - It was a thankfully quick match, with some nice spots here and there. The top-of-the-rope Chokeslam was a nice way to end the match, but I'm disappointed that neither Lita turned heel nor HBK interfered.

Booker T. vs. John Cena - Nothing special about this match, really. I liked Cena at one point, but night after night I wonder what all the fuss was about. His promos aren't funny, although that's more of the writers' fault. His wrestling is... um... like The Rock, but without the fun-to-watch overreaction and, dare I say it, electricity. Booker was solid, but he can put better matches against better wrestlers. I really could care less where this feud is headed.

Edge vs. Y2J vs. Batista - Here's where we start noticing the crowd's dopey reactions. Hometown hero Edge gets booed, even though it was Y2J that showed the more heel approach towards SummerSlam. On occasion the fans turned towards Edge, but then started going after him even worse. They made no sense. As for the match, I liked it whenever Batista was out of the picture. I found myself rooting for Jericho. Either the fans got to me, or there was something more than lettuce and mayo in my chicken sandwich.

Guerrero vs. Angle - The match of the night, again. I was surprised that Eddie tried to cheat his way out of a loss, considering the WWE implied they'd both be looking to win the match fairly. Never mind Luther's kick early on... it happens so often, it has virtually no effect on the outcome of the match. I'm glad Angle won cleanly, although I expected him to cheat for irony sakes. Either way, excellent match. I didn't like Angle's performance on his return match, but his work tonight showed he's back in business.

Triple H vs. Eugene - Watch out! The crowd takes another hit! They start chanting Eugene, then boo him... then chant him again, the boo him some more... it was crazy! I could only think of how ridiculous Nick Dinsmore (Eugene) must've felt playing his character that was supposed to incite cheers and support against a crowd that was disapproving everything he did. It was almost hard to watch, and very distracting. This may have caused my dislike for the match, because I came out of it thinking, "Boy, was that terrible!"

This begs the question, where does Eugene go from here? Sure, he could become a tag team with William Regal, but that will eventually get old fast. His gimmick only works for angles like the one he had with Triple H, and I doubt people would like to see that again.

Diva Dodgeball - The only part worth watching was the intro to the match, where we got to see some of the hot Diva-wannabes in bikinis. However, I was surprised at the absence of Carmella. As far as I know, the Diva vote-off takes place on every RAW, so where was she?

The whole thing was boring, and completely pointless. I think a gay guy thought up that dodgeball idea, because no guy's getting a hard-on out of that alone (And isn't that what Divas are for, really?), unless you're "Jim" from American Pie. In other words, "bathroom break." The Canadian crowd seemed to express their displeasure, though it certainly came out gay to boo at half-naked chicks.

The Undertaker vs. John Bradshaw Layfield - The outcome was expected, and while the match wasn't particularly good, it had a good ending. 'Taker needs to throw out the window a few biker habits, though: The shirt, the ridiculous boxing stance, and the "I'm done with you" gesture he made when he left bloody JBL on top of the car. Get with the gimmick, Deadman.

Oh, and that missed punch by 'Taker after the match was over? What was that? As a huge Taker mark, I looked in embarrassment.

The crowd started chanting for "tables... tables...," as if the match featured D-Von and co. What the fuck were they all on? And what's with the wave? Hm? Dopeheads.

Chris Benoit vs. Randy Orton - Like Orton vs. Edge, this match started getting good about halfway through. The beginning was somewhat boring, which I'm not used to feeling from a Benoit bout. Still, Orton held his own against the better wrestler, at least to a point. Too bad Orton won cleanly. CLEAN. Benoit couldn't beat HHH once clean during his title reign, after 18 years of busting his ass, and here comes this relative nobody and beats him cleanly? I like Randy Orton, but the overwhelming magnitude of his push is outrageous, and I wouldn't be surprised if he quickly got disinterested with proving the world time and again that he's that good. Then we have Benoit, whose road to become a champion was heavily hyped through the different RAW shows and a DVD, only to have him losing the title in such a short time. Reminds me of The Undertaker back in '97, where he held the title for the same amount of time.

Good luck Randy, you'll need it... or should I say, good luck WWE?

Was too tired to post my thoughts last night, so here they are:

- What the fuck was up with the crowd? King was right (for a change), they were in Bizzaroland.

- Six man tag was better than I thought it would have been, like the end with the 619/shooting star part

- Holy crap at the chokeslam Matt took

- IC title match was :-\ Surprised to hear the crowd boo the hometown boy

- Eddie vs Kurt was entertaining, untill the feed went and completly ruined the ending

- Expected to see Eugene beat Triple H, was abit of a shock when H won. Was funny seeing Flair being dragged backstage by his feet

- Diva Dodgeball was so unbelievably fucking retarded. Diva's broke alignment (Trish playing face captain, until they lost) , they looked fucking stupid, and the Diva search contestants are all ugly sluts.

- Expected Taker to win, but oh well. Thought he was gonna tombstone JBL on the car instead of chokeslamming him

- Orton vs Benoit was pretty decent. When Orton hit the RKO, I was left abit bewildered and didn't really take it in (maybe because I had been up since 6am and it was getting to 4am over here), then when he won I was kinda left like 'What......Ah right'. Liked the way Benoit made Orton 'Be a man' and shake his hand, dunno why though.

Overall, it wasn't too bad, the Diva bit really made SummerSlam abit shit, seeing as they could have had RVD vs Dupree on instead. Might buy it when it comes out on DVD, but only for the Orton/Benoit and Eddie/Kurt matches.

Sweety. I knew it was coming. I got a 5 star match out of it, the ring apron DDT, soem sweet as shit submission moves and reverals, two holy shit bumbs from Benoit a great face turn respect finish. Orton's reaction to winning the title was great. Is this what I wanted? No. But this was one of the few ways I can accept it. Besides, Benoit is now the first Chasmpion since the return of the belt in 2002 to not drop the title back to Triple H. It actually makes him look liek a real champion.

The crowd was great. I know I was there. They single handledly made JBL vs Undertaker entertaining. The wave was great, the booing of Eugene was hillarious. I made my parents nad i look stupid waving at him when everyone else booed. Oh well. I did it to fuck around anyways.

RVD vs Dupree was an ok match. Nothing special at all. RVD is still pretty fucking over but I was goign for Dupree.

The 6 man tag had some sweet moments and Spike continues to be a kick ass heel. Buh Buh's response to the we want tables chant was great. Kidman and Londo continue to be an awesome tag team some, I also totally marked for the Heart Attack.

Kane vs matt Hardy was as entertaining as it could possibly have been. The choke slam from the top was fucking awesome. Kane for Father of the year :D

The Triple Threat match was pretty damn good, would have been better without Batista. The booing of Edge was great :D! I joined along, Jericho was super over tonight. The cheered Edge when he won though LOL. Toronto crowds are liek New York crowds it was great.

The Booker T vs Cena match was very dissapointing. I felt like a free Tv match and not a PPV match. Probably in terms of promise the most dissapointing match of the night.

Eddie vs Kurt: What can ya say, another classic between these two. 4 to 5 Stars easily. Loved the ring psychology with the constant working of the ankle and the removal of the boot by Angle. Great match. Second best of the night.

Triple H vs Eugene was good. Eugene almost got booed otu of the buliding it was hillarious. There was some attempts to counter act that by certain sections of the crowd but I don't know how it turned out on TV. Flair was hillarious and watching Trips drag an out cold Flair to the back after the match was funny. Eugene got cheered at the end though much liek the Edge match, not sure what to make of it.

Diva Dodgball sucked ass next!

JBL vs UT: What the fuck was ut doign seeling for JBL and using ring psych. I guess Ut seels for no one other than JBL. The fans made this match it was Lesnar vs goldberg all over again. The random chants for the SPanish Annoucer's table. Soem small Virgirl chants directed towads Orlando Jordan. The WAVE :D, it was top notic hillarity. Crowd made this match fun :D.

Benoit vs Orton: First of all, I knew Orton was winning so I was prepared. I hoped Benoit would pull it off but alas it wasn't meant to be :(. 5 Star match easilt though and Match of the Year so far. Some great ring psych, reverals galore, intense submission wrestling. The reversal of the RKo into the crossface back into the RKO finish was great. The DDT of the ring apron was holyshit as was the divie through the ropes face into the rail and the reversal of Benoit's flying Headbutt. Orton kinda won me over with his reaction to winning at the end. Total face turn there. The crowd was very into this match and while some might say they favoured Orton, it was an even split IMO. They loved both guys. I loved the hand shake at the end, it was perfect. After the match was over I stood there just applauding both men. Congrats to Orton and thank you Benoit for beign a great champion. As I previously said Benoit is the first champ to look legit as he is the only guy so far not to drop the title back to Triple H. 5 Star match easily and Match of the Year so far.

Overall not a single terribe match (JBL vs UT was bad but the crowd made it fun) and the only waste of time was Diva Dodgeball. Ac fantastic event that IMo ties WM XX for best PPV of the year
