No I don't mean LOD 2000.

I mean things like JBL is currently doing, a modern version of an old gimmick (million dollar man).

Orlando Jordan plays his Virgil

It seems that Carlito Carribean Cool is going to be a new Razor Ramon

And now Nova is playing a new Body Donnars style fitness freak gimmick

I don't think this re hashing is all bad, as I have really come to like JBL gimmick, even if i'm not a fan of his wrestling or the fact that he's champ, but the gimmick does work and generates decent heat.

How many more of these do you think are going to be created and who do you think should play them?

Contenders of old gimmicks that I can think of would be things like:

A Yokozuna style big man
A Brutus the barber beefcake
A Honky Tonk Man Style charcter (not like cena, but not like elvis, something else something different)

Well that's all i can really think of.

What's your thoughts?

After the whole pointlessness of Rikishi, I'm not sure they'll be in any rush for another Yokozuna style character. How about another LAw & Order type gimmick a la Big Boss Man....ah hell, they'll probably just bring back the BBM for that anyway.

Yeah I reckon a Boos Man Gimmick would work :y:

Every old character seems to be coming back. Hell, even Undertaker reverted to his old self, the 80's Taker. All we need after this is a Tatanka type wrestler (or should I say a Warrior type.. they pretty much copied him.) or even a new Doink which I wouldn't mind seeing since everything else in wrestling has turned so wacky that it doesn't matter. All I gotta say about the old gimmicks, not all of them will work out for the long run especially after looking at the original gimmicks and how long they last and to compare them to today's characters, it just won't work out.

EDIT: Yeah, just found out by fellow poster Mikey, it was 90s Taker, not 80's.. shows how much I remember..

<font color=cyan>Rehash Triple H's blue blood gimmick when Test comes back. Call him Andrew Martin, and let's forget that he used to be a body gaurd for Motley Crew. Let him grow his hair back, and hell, let's forget he was Test. Seems Vinne Mac thinks we forget everything else, but that's another thread.

Randy Orton = the next Mr. Perfect.

Another Diesel persona would be cool. A trucker who just goes from town to town, call his finisher "The Truckstop" (whatever that'll be) and have him cut a promo from a small town cafe where the waitress is in her mid 50's and have and old juke box in the corner.

I want to see another Steve Austin, but we'll need to wait a few years before it's "Well no shit it's ripped off."

I don't think the WWE is intentionally rehashing old gimmicks. They've had A LOT of gimmicks, so it's hard to come up with one, that hasn't kind of already been done before.

You could basically look at most of the wrestlers on the Raw and Smackdown roster and link them to older gimmicks. A big example would be John Cena to Stone Cold Steve Austin. Always going against the boss, doing what he wants, and saying what he wants. Chris Benoit to Bret Hart. Randy Orton to Rick Rude (That's at least what I think of). Luther and Tomco to Diesel.

It's hard to be 100% original these days, considering a lot of gimmicks have been done. I give you a lot of credit on the Million Dollar Man reference.. Even if I exclude the Virgil refernece.
