I got this computer about a year ago, I had never heard of people putting in lights, windows and assorted crap in thier cases.
Heres a couple of shots of the original case from the PDF for it.

Then one day I saw a Blue cold cathode in a computer store and thought that I just had to have one.. Mmmm blue lights. That was it, i was hooked. Then I found www.overclockers.com.au (http://www.overclockers.com.au/) and started getting ideas :D

After much disscussions with the wife I ended up cutting a blow hole in the top and fitting an led fan, buying an Aerogate II (which at the time I thought was the coolest thing ever) then a side intake fan... But the wife wasnt keen on me going too mad on our computer so I cut my teeth with The Barbie Computer (http://www.arach.net.au/~credo/cgi-bin/ikonboard3/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=1;t=177) Which I really should update the pics for, I have made a few changes to it.

http://www.arach.net.au/~credo/images/before.jpg
Click for full image (http://www.arach.net.au/~credo/images/leds_finished.JPG)
So getting back to my case after the barbie one, I rigged all the leds in the fans to switches I have mounted on a PCI bracket cover thingy at the back, home made some led feet as detailed here (http://www.arach.net.au/~credo/cgi-bin/ikonboard3/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=1;t=176) and the case stood like that for quite some time, no cash to fund anything at all.

Then we got our tax back.. we gave eachother $100 each to spend on whatever we liked, I went and hit www.pccasegear.com (http://www.pccasegear.com/)
with my hundred. I picked up a UV blue cable sleaving kit, a black light, blue thumbscrews, uv cables all round, molex kit and few fan covers.

It was about that time I grew some balls, and took to my case with the Dremel. i wanted to get creative with the window but the grills had to go either way, and that stuffed me around a bit with designs, and the wife wanted just a plain window with rounded corners, thats what I ended up doing.
I Bought some light blue perspex, sleaved the power supply and here are the results of a very very slow case mod.

Night time UV cathode on

Click for full image (http://www.arach.net.au/~credo/images/dark_room_all_lights.jpg)
Night time UV Cathode and blue cathode on.

I still have to get another UV cathode or two so I get a decent amount of glow from the blue cables, thats why its sitting stright across the case at the moment, i do plan to hide them eventually.
And eventually if I can find some Bulgin switches under friggen $50 each in aus so i can move the power buttons. I want to do a front intake fan aswell.

I know by the modding worlds standards my case is nothing special, but its mine, I did it, all by myself.. and the wife likes it and thats the main thing.

I have started a case in the shed that I hope will be special, its themed.. its going to take months. I'll post some pics of that when there are pics to post, its not much to look at the moment.

If I ever get the time and money, I may get something about 1/4th as cool as that. For now, the standard Dell case is alright. :-\

thats amazing...how much did you spend roughly...including the cost of the case.

cause you can get cases with all the led, led fans etc etc with a 350/400 watt power supply for under 100 bucks now :o

of course the "do it yourself" feel makes it much cooler.

of course the "do it yourself" feel makes it much cooler.the case is a cheapo, not sure what it cost, probably only about $50 AUD

two cathodes = 40
areogate II = 100
3 led fans = 60
cables = 30
sleaving and molex's = 25
and assorted fan grils, led lights etc

Pre-modded cases can kiss my ass, whats the point of getting a moded a case that looks exactly the same as someone else's.

I have just ordered a new case for my next project yesterday, should be here tommorow.

Chosen for its aluminuim front bezel and its price

when it gets here its Just a matter of a custom window(or two) a few simple cuts here and there and its off to the powder coaters for a custom paint job. I will post a project log on that once its underway..

Yeah, that's a pretty nice case. I'm still working on this case as it is. I was going to go with a Lian Li but the price was going to kill me so I just got a Chenming. I'm going to cut out the front door and put plexiglass over it with a couple of cannon LEDs showcasing the WC reservoir and drives. Then I'm going to cut a custom top window with 3 fan holes, two of which I'll use for the WC radiator. Then going to add some blue LED fans in the front to balance the blue/green cathodes. Then just wrap the wires in aluminum wire loom. Then, last but not least, add a touch LCD screen on the front my second screen.

For those who don't know, this is the Phantom
http://www.thecomicshop.com.au/site3/lot017/phantom-dc-12.jpg

we started with a cooler master centurion as I said above

http://www.arach.net.au/~credo/images/phantom/centurion.jpg

Pulled it to pieces, Bought the power supply and an areogate II and then it was off to the powder coaters

http://www.arach.net.au/~credo/images/phantom/side_ph.jpg

http://www.arach.net.au/~credo/images/phantom/front_ph.jpg

http://www.arach.net.au/~credo/images/phantom/overall_ph.jpg

This is how the case stands at the moment, the color of the case is a little darker than what the camera shows.

Everything got powder coated, pci slot covers, power supply and the cooler master stealth drive covers. The switches on the front are just for turning off the lighting, which will be UV cold cathodes and UV fan lights and home made LED case feet.

I sleaved the power supply with blue UV sleaving, desoldered all the LED's on the fans and the LED's now run off their own 5v line with a switch for each one. The window is getting a phantom logo on it and I have to work in blue stripes in a triangle there somewhere from the phantoms belt buckle.
Everything is sitting in a box waiting for me to get the time to put it all together. All that is left to buy is the processor, ram and DVD burner.
this case should move along pretty quickly now, except I have to work 13 days straight.. but the overtime will pay for it to be finished off.

Alright, finally went shopping and got the last few bits so I could boot it up.

still allot of work to do yet, but at least I haven't blown it to bits before I finish the case.
Its funny, i only just realized that i have been playing with computers for about 4 years now and this was my first full build from scratch. that first boot was sweet.

http://www.arach.net.au/~credo/images/phantom/build_3.jpg
Nothing is that bright. this camera hates me..

Before anyone says anything I still have alot of cable management to do etc, I still havent bought the floppy drive yet..
well thats it for today, must go and stealth the drives, tidy up and what not.

CREDO
10-19-2004, 07:04 AM
Its not really that green, that camera does wierd things to colour, half of the shots of the case came out blue.Price and performance was the issue here though, I didnt really have the budget to go shopping for colour coordinated components :D

CREDO

Bought a new camera the other day, its allot better than the old one we were borrowing.
I have stealthed the drives and put the rubber stripping on the window, had a small mishap when I dropped one of the fronts, the bloody thing chipped. you can only just see it in the pics. its the top one.
still waiting on a delivery from zombie studios so I can do the window and some LED's to do the feet.

today I was a little bored, still waiting for led's and stuff to arrive so I made this from a huge piece of purple perspex I was given by the local chemist from a display. this sheet was like 1m by 2 meters long.
http://www.arach.net.au/~credo/images/phantom/hdd_cover.jpg
a simple little hard drive cover.

I think it tidys the whole thing up a little. I will be doing the floppy the same way when I go and get one.
I did some more with the purple perspex in the case but the camera's battery gave out before I could get a decent shot.

KleptoKlown
10-26-2004, 02:56 PM
Thats deffinitly a unique touch. Especially the thumb screws to hold the hdd, never seen that before. Looks great :y:

(I still see a normal screw in there :shifty: )

CREDO
10-26-2004, 03:11 PM
The normal screw there is waiting for a floppy drive, then it will get the thumb screw and perspex treatment.
All screws have been changed to thumb screws in the case, makes the pci slots look sweet.
All fan screws have been changed to chrome allen key (hex) bolts as well.
I will have a bit of a photo shoot soon when its closer to being finished to show everything I have done and stuff I have yet to do.

well all the cables have been sleaved in UV reative cable sleaving so it tends to glow like a bastard under the two black lights, all fans are also uv led's.

How much do said cables cost

CREDO
11-07-2004, 10:06 PM
Well stuff I bought for the cables was.

http://www.pccasegear.com.au/images/blueuvatxsb.jpg
Molex kit $15

http://www.pccasegear.com.au/images/blueuvsleevingsb.jpg
Cable sleaving $15:00
(was enough to do two whole computers of all cables including usb, front panel etc)
http://www.pccasegear.com.au/images/701-48b.jpg
IDE rounded UV cable, blue: $9.90

http://www.pccasegear.com.au/images/satabluesb.jpg
SATA UV blue: $5.50

That is all in Aussie dollars.

Here it is all wrapped up and ready to go. I forgot to get a good couple of finished shots. We have to wait 2 weeks before we can give it to him I'll get some then.
If were lucky we will get a short vid of him unwrapping it,(then calling the ambulance cause he's collapsed of a heart attack)

Well the wife has finally allowed me to cut a front intake. But first the power and reset switches and LED's needed to be relocated. I had my heart set on some blue bulgins but they are a tad difficult to get in Perth, So i ended up using guitar foot pedal switches instead. About 5 bucks each from jaycar.
They stick out a bit, but I like em'.
