View Full Version : Nirvana's box set is finally gonne be released!!
Fellow Nirvana fans, the big day has arrived. You can check it out over at nirvanaclub.com, or I will just paste what it said here anyways..this is a joyous day. Finally!!!
This is it, guys. The best news I've been able to post since this website started some eight years ago ... A Nirvana box set will be released on November 23, 2004. This is the box we've been waiting for since the rumours about it first started more than six years ago. It will include 3 CD's and one DVD, featuring "previously unreleased rarities and b-sides. Over 50 unreleased recordings including Kurt Cobain's demos". The DVD will also contain unseen footage and live performances. And, the whole thing comes with a 60-page booklet! I know this sounds just about too good to be true but here is the official info and all I know about the project right now:
NIRVANA BOX SET - 3 CD & 1 DVD
Street Date: Nov. 23, 2004
Features the hits, live performances, previously unreleased rarities and b-sides
Over 50 unreleased recordings including Kurt Cobain's demos
Hours of unheard music and unseen footage
Features a 60 page booklet. DVD with first edition only
3-panel digipack, front cover is a metal plate
Closed size is 26cm x 14.5cm x 2.5cm. Open size is 81cm x 14.5cm
I don't have pricing, artwork or tracklistings at this time but hopefully that will be available soon. I also don't know yet, if any singles, promos or videos will be released in connection with the box. All I do know is that what millions of Nirvana fans have been waiting for since 1997 or so is finally here. I really have no idea what recordings they have used to compile this set. Indeed, some of the Cobain demos must come from all the cassette tapes that he apparently left behind. The band also did a number of studio sessions which yielded songs that have yet to be released - although much of this material is already circulating amongst fans. It will certainly also be interesting to see what the DVD has to offer; perhaps Nirvana's music videos and some live stuff. It seems unlikely from the description that an entire concert is presented on the DVD. It's probably clips from various shows. In any case, this is a great day for Nirvana fans!
...
Yes, more updates will probably be on the way shortly. But I was wondering where all the news about it was going. What a happy day.

Does it have an on-tour journal of when he was the bitch roadie for the Melvins?
November 11, 1989: Today Buzz slapped me around and I made him coffee like he told me too.
The day after: Cobain says fuck this, I have more talent then every single member of the melvins combined. I'll learn a bit from them, then fly right on by them. What does he do? He does it. He says I'm gonna shoot myself, he does it. The guy gets things done.
Cobain was too big for the melvins man. Now fuck up. This isnt supposed to be a flame fest. I like the melvins, just not like I enjoy Nirvana. Who the hell cares anyways?
Keep it clean.

The only reason I wish Kurt Cobain didn't die was so I don't have to put up with some of his fans telling the world that he was the greatest musician that ever lived, and stupid publications like Kerrang hyping up all of Nirvanas work as the best and most influential music of all time.

Took, stop being an idiot and bringing someone like Maynard into this, he has nothing to do with Nirvana or the topic at hand.
And wtf did the melvins have to do with anything? This wasn't about Cobain being a roadie for them. It was about just bringing up fucking news on the box. I started the thread, I'm not the one being the idiot here. This guy just seems really upset that Cobain got more success then his Melvins.
Who cares!!!?? The melvins made some fine tunes, but not anywhere near Nirvana.
Fuck, there's always some guy that thinks everyone else wants to know their opinion about something totally irrelevant.
I will probably purchase that.
There is no doubt that Kurt wasn't the greatest guitarist or singer in the world but he wrote some great songs.

Apparently you care because you took offense.
Anyways, I like some Nirvana stuff. Not enough to warrant buying the box set.

Yeah...he put a shotgun in his mouth, leaving a daughter behind..yeah, a real fucking rolemodel.
And whats this about Cobain being to big for anything? You're a fuck up if you think thats the way he thought. For him, it wasnt about being bigger and better than anything.
Im a nirvana fan, they had some good tunes, but cobain is a fucking coward, and the best thing he ever did for his career was put that gun in his mouth.
you little fan boys are funny. How many cobain RIP tshirts you have? Exactly.

You totally misread my post. Fuckwit. I''ve been a fan since 1993, im 24. I know what the band is about. Are you one of those elitist type fans though who always think you've been there and done that so you feel you can make a claim to being some bigger fan? Shut the fuck up. I never said he was a role model. I will always claim he made great music and should be admired for that. I could care less what he did in his personal life.
I was just having a go with pancakes. We've done this before, I'm not saying Cobain wanted to be the biggest etc..get off your high horse and calm down you elitist fuck.
BTW, the best thing he ever did for his career was put the gun in his mouth? Yeah, that helped him tremendously eh. Look at him reap those fucking rewards now. lol, gimme a break.

First off, you do care about his personal life because you brought up him shooting himself first.
Second of all, you have no right to call anyone a loser because you have a name inspired by Lord of the Rings.
Finally, shut the fuck up, fanboy.

The first Nirvana fan may have been that kid who saw their shows way back and requested some covers for them to do whilst playing in front of maybe 25 people. That wasn't me.
My name is Brad Took.

LOL...im a casual fan, I like a few songs, but unlike you, I have a bit of knowledge. So right there, you calling me an elitest prooves how dumb you are.
Im saying Cobain is an overrated peice of chicken shit for leaving his daughter without a father.
He says I'm gonna shoot myself, he does it. The guy gets things done.
that statement is what makes you a fucking moron. You have admiration for a guy who killed himself. I dont need to make you look like an idiot, you're doing a fine job of it yourself.
And for claiming that you know Cobian didnt want to be bigger, you sure put him on a higher level than anyone else. Saying his music is better than other peoples music, saying he is better than other people...something he hated, and little fanboys say all the time.

Again, learn how to read. I was being quite sarcastic in my post. Pancakes guy and I were arguing inane BS before this thread about Cobain. I was deliberately acting like he was. I know Cobain didnt give a fuck..he said it enough. He gave enough of a fuck though to stay on a major and demand them to play his videos more then they already did. He wasnt totally ambivalent about it. Otherwise he'd have never signed to a major.
Fact is, I dont give a shit what Cobain did to himself, if he took drugs..big fucking deal. The Beatles took drugs, practically anyone who ever made great music took them. What did this have to do with any of that? I was making athread on the box set, not his personal life which everyone already knows about anyways. I guess you guys didnt get that part. I love their music, I love the great material they provided people with. If Cobain felt that was the best way to go, so be it. Until you've stepped in his shoes you can knock him. Depression such as what he had is a disease..he clearly wasnt thinking straight, that is obvious. He felt she'd be better off without him, he was clouded by the drugs and his probably at the time coma induced brain..very well could have been brain damaged after that, as Krist once stated. So knock him if you want. I dont care, but I wouldnt knock a guy for that. I would knock a guy who kills himself for his girlfriend dumping him or some such utter BS, but not depression, as it is a disease.

So instead of getting help for his disease, he shot up with herion. He's not some inperational figure people make him out to be.
Nivana as a group had a few good songs, and they're the primary reason grunge lasted more than a couple of weeks.
The only reason they have this legendary status is because of cobain making cherry pie of his brains. They would have burned out with the rest of grunge.

You cant speculate. Bands with real talent will last. If the music mattered then and was known before his death as significant music, then why would that change? It wouldnt.
Pearl Jam certainly has not died out, and music from the other bands such as AIC and soundgarden have and will stand the test of time, whether the band members be alive or not. People dying doesnt mean the music dies with them.

Pearl Jam is a joke these days.
You don't know whether Nirvana's music would have withstood the test of time if Cobain continued to live. Nirvana's music was significant because they didn't wear make-up and perm their hair. If Nirvana wasn't found first, some band certainly would have taken their place.

Bands with real talent will last.
IE: Not Nirvana.
a few hits doesnt amount to real talent.
More talented than most they were...but they were in the right place during the right time.
A poor singing voice, and minimal guitar skills will only get you so far for so long. Nirvana would have had to change their tune, all bands who last long periods of time cant keep releasing the same stuff over and over. Kurt didnt have anything else to offer.
Oh yeah...Pearl who?
exactly.

So what your saying here is Pearl Jam is nothing credible anymore cuz they dont sell 10 mill no more right? Cuz that is what I'm understanding. Face it, the fair weather fans liked the hits and that is all. Pearl Jam, if you've heard all their albums..shit have you heard "lost dogs"..they're tracks they kept on the shelf are better then most bands released tracks. Some people got caught up in a trend that was pushed on them by the media. The real fans of the music stuck with it. Pearl Jam still makes great songs.
Nirvana disproved most people's negative perceptions of them on "unplugged"..Cobain didn't have a voice that sounded like everyone else's..his voice was better then you say it is. Lots of feeling in his songs..it's why so many bands cover Nirvana and cant make them sound half as good. To me that is the mark of a great band, when other bands cant do anything decent to what you made. Nirvana on the other hand improved many bands songs by covering them. These are just straight facts.
And this right place, right time stuff is a cop out. Fact is, the pixies had the chance, REM, soundgarden, AIC, any punk band before them..but their music didnt attach themselves to the people in the way Nirvana's did. So give credit where it's due, they broke down the doors.
Kurt didn't have anything else to offer? Yeah suddenly he wouldnt be able to keep churning out quality music. He didnt have to have mega talent. With what he did, he did way more then most others could with these amazing technical skills.
