Who was overall the better basketball player?
I wanna say Magic, but he had a pretty awesome group of players backing him up while Larry was all alone.
But I thought Magic was a pretty un-selfish player because he made people look good and made people into stars and was never a ballhog in my view.
He good score, steal and made awesome passes while ol' Larry was just a good shooter. So my vote goes for the Magic Man.

if McHale and Parrish constitute all alone, then I wanna be Larry Bird.

I heard of those guys and in my view, none of them compare to guys like Kareem and Worthy.
Kareem was like a machine. He had the talent of 10 awesome basketball players. Between him and Magic as well as the coaching talent of Pat Riley....it was no wonder they were the team of the 80's.

McHale has been named one of the 50 best players in nba history and to the hall of fame, I'm not sure of the other guys credentials, but even so they weren't pushovers like you are implying.

your word is Kevin McHale
Kevin McHale the basketball Player?
No, Kevin McHale the word?

During the end of Kevin McHale's career....he was a total has-been and a bench warmer.
And he was younger then Kareem in 93'.....
Kareem was 42 when he retired and was still one of the best players out there as well as a starter. Heck, he helped the team to the 89's finals.
Nothing against Kevin McHale. But in my view, a great basketball player stays just as awesome when he is old and can play the same or even better as they were when they were young.

Anyone who votes for Larry Bird is a moron, considering Magic Johnson is the greatest basketball player ever.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that I think Bird is the better player, but its just rediculous for the Lone Drinker to claim the Celtics were a one man team in that era.

McHale was one of the best low-post players every to play and praticly re-invented the position.
I always found Bird and Magic equal... they both were great all around players and unselfish in their ability to make everyone around them better, drawing double teams and passing the ball. Either one was happy with 2 points and didn't care who scored it, either would be just as happy with 5 points and 50 assists.
You could argue on a few points where one was better then the other, but then it would still even out..

Magic won more titles and more MVP's. He beat Bird twice in the finals, so he is the better basketball player.
He also made it to the finals nine times in his career. While Bird only made it five times.
Magic wins. I can't believe he is losing in this poll.....

His team accomplishments shouldn't mean that much to you considering you are calling his teammates amazing and the Celtics a bunch of stiffs.
You do realize that the poll is veering away from your opinion because you are so stupid, right?

Ok, this argument proves even more that you have no clue what you're talking about.
There were a lot of other players on the championship teams...
Does that make them better then bird also?
At least use stats... FG%, 3pt%, Assists, Rebound, Blocks, Steals, etc...
"He had more rings" is a stupid argument"

I'd say Bird. Back when I did watch basketball, back when Bird and Magic where in their prime, they were both class guys that lead by example. Saw some great performances out of both of them.

Pretty much impossible to seperate them. Magic is more highly regarded because he was flashier, but both were phenomonal players.
Regardless, Michael is the greatest of all time.

Its hard to make a case that somebody was better than MJ, Miz I'm excited to hear what you have to say though.

IMO Magic Johnson is the greatest player that ever lived, with Kareem and Michael not far behind. People often forget that before Phil Jackson, Michael Jordan's Bulls were a very average team. In Jordan's first 4 years they made the playoffs all 4 but had losing records 3 of the 4. The Bulls were never a good team until they had Jackson, Pippen, Grant, Rodman, etc. Now I know Magic had Kareem, Scott, Worthy, etc. but Magic was was brought that team together. Before Magic the Lakers were also an average team. Magic to me is the epitome of a team leader, he was a much more versatile player than Jordan despite is lack of jumping ability and shooting. I know it's not fair to judge when the guy when he was 40 years old, but Michael's last years with the Wizards made it pretty evident he's selfish and a shitty leader.

You could make an arguement to say that the Wizards were no good because the guy on their team who wanted it the most was 40 years old and couldn't do it all himself.
Jordan never had the supporting cast Magic, Kareem, Bird or anyone else has ever had. Jordan was the one that made guys like Harper, Longley, Kukoc, Kerr etc winners, through his leadership. Find me something Jordan couldn't do on a basketball court.
It's an interesting arguement to say the least.

Jordan was a great leader in his Bull days. Hell, he's the one that got those guys to stop snizzeling and whining and got them paying with a focused determination.
The Miz

Jordan couldn't deal with being the best player on his team (Hamilton, Stackhouse). It's hard to call somebody a great team leader when his response to being asked to come off the bench was "If you bench me you're fired". Egomaniac.
