It came across as breaking news on ESPN during the Yankees game. The owners are going to lockout the players, thus possibly ending at least the first half of the NHL season. So what this topic is to serve for is all the bitching you want to do why all the players and owners are locked out. It's going to be a long winter guys :( .

Damn, and I was so looking forward to Dominik Hasek's 82 shutout season too.

Does anybody remember the tournament they had, I think during the last hockey strike, in Canada, where they had Ontario VS Quebec VS West VS East or something like that?

I actually wouldn't mind seeing little tournaments like that during the lockout - be kinda interesting.

Well i'll agree that he wouldn't have let in any goals in 82 games, being on the bench with a torn groin makes that easy though

I think three of the guys on Around the Horn today predicted that hockey would come back really strong when it does. I could see it happening if there were some drastic changes..

The most dramatic change that has to happen has to be where they get Gary Bettman out of there. If they get him out of there, they might be able to survive this. If they do not, the NHL will never recover from this.

Did I say Hasek? I meant Martin Prusek. :shifty:

Erm, Bettman doesn't make any desicions, you realize this right? He is THE spokesperson for the owners.

This will honestly be better for the NHL. So what if they have a year off, there attendance is already low, the games are already not exciting, besides northern US and Canada nobody cared last year, why not use this as an opportunity to bring the game back better than ever. Pro hockey isn't done if they miss a season, maybe people in Florida, Atlanta, LA, and Dallas might forget about it, it was a mistake going down there anywhere. The NHL has a lot of work to do, and a situation like this can make the whole process of change quicker and more effective. Hockey will be back, and it will be stronger than it was last year.

Yeah... as sad as I am to have no hockey fix I must agree with you. When hockey comes back it's going to be bigger and better than before.

Until then.... ummmm... I can get my fix by watching classic games on ESPN Classics. :|
